Glen Campbell performed his Dec 1971 single Oklahoma Sunday Morning (Tony Macaulay, Albert Hammond, Lee Hazlewood) on The Talk Of The Town nightclub London, 1972.
I've never heard this song before but it's quickly becoming one of my faves. Have y'all ever noticed that Glen tends to deliver a song in the most straight-forward fashion without a lot of stylizing or embellishment? There's a simplicity in his presentation that we all tend to gravitate to. This speaks to his raw talent, although I'll admit that his good looks don't hurt my feelings one bit. ;)
A stripped back version with just Glen and his acoustic would be amazing, you can really see he's doing a lot of fancy rhythm stuff that get's lost in the giant orchestration, this must be a hell of a song to do live! That original 1971 single recording of it will never be beaten man, every line is sung perfectly. If this song had a better chorus there is no doubt in my mind it be at least much more well known, or the fact it was only released as a single might also have something to do with that. One of my absolute favorite Glen songs man, it's so good. The verses just hit like a brick, it's tasty.
Love this song so much, makes me cry thinking of Glen... love you, Glen, and pray for you and your precious family... we will not forget you... thanks for posting this..
Time to climb out of my crocheted eiderdown and return to ‘normality’ as lockdown eases and I return to work.... Thoughts of your sublime Oklahoma Sunday Morning performance will help a lot....Thanks Glen for being there. 😍
We used to have the 45. For some reason this great song wasn't released on an album at the time. It should have been a huge hit. I later bought a compilation mainly to get this song. When it arrived, I played the song 4 times. Happy birthday Glen. We still miss you.
Great to see /hear this. the credit should read 'Mike Hazlewood' not Lee. Mike was Albert Hammond's collaborator.. Lee worked with Duane Eddy and Nancy Sinatra It's a shame the Hollies didn't record this.. they recorded songs written by Macaulay and Hammond separately.
