Great ride, I used my 5 yr old full sus Haibike eMTB clockwise - pretty rough large gravel at the top, but I'm 70, enjoyable descent

that was anti - clockwise on my eMTB - sorry - brain fade - enjoyed the video!

I have been looking for a route like this close to Renfrewshire to start with before I venture into the Cairngorms with my fairly new eMTB to build up my muscles and stamina. Thanks for the inspiration.

Good stuff! It's a pretty straightforward route which is good. Not easy, but there is only one path 😊 The cafe at the start in Brig o'Turk is reopening on 15 March too which might be a nice break at the end.

Just Googled this route and it looks just the job for my eMTB when I plan to visit in April. My local 40 k was so muddy yesterday I came off a few times. The going there looks grand. Thanks for your great video.

Going was great, and it was actually gravel 👍🏼 Yeah, our local trails are just mud at the moment too so this was much more fun. Enjoy your visit in April.

Hi, this was very enjoyable viewing. Loved the beautiful scenery and your narration. I'm here in Australia and collating a resume of gravel biking adventures for when I return to bonny Scotland. Looking at your Komoot route, is Callander the nearest village? And can you recommend a great cafe nearby? TIA.

Aw brilliant, glad you enjoyed it. Where in Australia are you? Any good gravel with you? My sister in law is in Geelong 😊. Yeah, the nearest town is probably Callander. There is Mhor Bread in Callander which has a cafe attached, I think. Beyond that, I'm not sure about the others in Callander. We went to the Woodhouse at Kippen (near Stirling) as it was on our way home and their food is lovely. Enjoy the gravel cycling when you're over!

Ok, thx for your info’. I’m near Coffs Harbour which is halfway btn Sydney & Brisbane on east coast. Cycling here is great all yr round with amazing country roads for roadies, as well as excellent forest trails for mtbs & excellent gravel riding. Drive 2 hrs west up onto New England Range and there’s world class gravel riding not too dissimilar to Scotland!

Nice one. That all sounds like good cycling! I stayed in Coffs Harbour when back-packing up the east coast in 2006. Nice place! It was a bit random - stayed with my friend's ex-boyfriends parents. My friend was still in touch with the parents but not the ex. The Mum took me for a wee tour of the town 😊

Nice! Well you at least know the area then somewhat. The area's climate is considered the best in the country being around the middle laterally. I live 30 minutes south in Valla Beach which is gorgeous! Great beaches, great surf and great cycling!@@CharlieVanPoppel

Been wanting to do this for a while on the gravel bike but as I’ve just gotten a new MTB might try it in that first. It’s going to take some getting used to straight bars again!
@CharlieVanPoppel

Try both, and let me know how you get on! It is a tough short ride so I'm waiting for warmer weather to go back and enjoy the views and the stops more 😆

@@CharlieVanPoppel I certainly think the gears on the MTB will be a bit easier but then there’s more weight. It will be interesting to see.

Nice one Ian. Good to know it's hard either way, we weren't sure! Did you take the north or south side of Loch Venachar, or another route entirely? The north side is a bit of a rollercoaster eh 😂

Glad to have the hard tail instead of a gravel bike for the gearing, rather than for the bouncy fork?
@Zzyyxx22
@Zzyyxx22 5 месяцев назад
I’ve done this loop on my chisel and you want the gears for the way up and the suspension for the way down. It’s pretty bumpy.
@CharlieVanPoppel
@CharlieVanPoppel 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, as the person above said the hardtail was good for both. Good for the climbing with a few more spinny gears for gradients over 20%, and good having the wider tyres and suspension for the descent. Didn't really need the suspension for the descent tbh, but the bigger tyres in particular mean you can roll over everything without worrying too much about which line you take
@pphaneuf
@pphaneuf 5 месяцев назад
@@CharlieVanPoppel Sounds like it might be a bit more work on my gravel bike with big(ish) 47x650b and SRAM Eagle "mullet" gearing, but still doable, then!?
