I have ridden these routes on a motorcycle and in a car and found both enjoyable - in early July 2013 or 14 there was perfect weather to see the Highlands on my Harley, My journey started at 6am from west of London, up through Cumbria where I stayed two nights and on up via Applecross (1 night) to the Ledmore Junction was superb. Cutting back down through central Scotland to Inverness, Fort William and then out to Mallaig was the most perfect day. Then next morning to Oban and back down to overnight again in Eskdale and then home was the best use of five days and eight hours in my entire life but, after 2500 miles I was a little 'saddle-sore' to say the least. I never saw a single drop of rain on the whole trip and it was only in Foyers that I got bitten by the midges ! I hope to take another such trek when (if ?) this virus abates and complete my trip around the top and back down the east coast - thanks for stoking my memories..... This really is a very beautiful place to live !

Thanks for watching and commenting! Though born in the UK and living there for the first 30 years of my life, I had barely ventured to Scotland, and even then it was as a kid visiting Butlins in Ayr. Having lived overseas for the past 25+ years, visiting Scotland was a revelation. Truly beautiful, and our 2 weeks went by in a flash, with so many places left to see. Hopefully we'll make it back there in the not too distant future.

Driving from shieldig to Applecross doable by 8 meter car van?

The Defender is about 4.5m so 8m is going to be significantly longer. All I can say is that the route is a winding single track road in places. Maybe others could comment on the feasibility of an 8m van.

Thank you for sharing the beauty of the Highlands. Really lovely to see the landscape in its wild and wonderful best. My wife and I also love your Landy. We have a Defender 90 and look forward to doing these routes in the future in her. They are the perfect roads for such a faithful vehicle. Your camera work and informative commentary are pitched just right. We came across your site quite by accident and have just enjoyed a quiet evening watching your videos whilst listening to the wind and rain outside our house on the hills of Exmoor where we live. Thank you once again....we have subscribed...!!

Thank you so much for your kind comments! Thanks for watching and for subscribing, we're glad you enjoyed the videos! We very much enjoyed our 2 weeks in Scotland and will return given the chance - so many things we didn't have time to see or do! Again, thanks for the kind words, we have a few more videos in editing stage so hopefully we'll have some new content on the channel soon!

At film time 21:05..you would be best to park your truck & politely stroll thru this little section..you would of found your supper essentials, & spared the village your trucks diesel fume...& its so much more thoughtful a manner ! Village people detest the tourists who rubber neck & in turn bring nothing positive. By now I would guess you would of learned that most tiny shops are adherent to village regulations concerned with signage..IE- read small & often not neon etc.. Mail & food snacks are often located under one root..so easy to miss. All those snack ordinary unimpressive food shops are paying high markups from their distributors, or hire a local to drive miles & miles to a Costco type outlet, fill a little truck & head back..mostly advisable you have a solar panel..50 Watts would due..wired to a 30 quart fridge..buy where you can be picky..lamb chops, mackerel, avocado, dairy etc...then cook your own simple meals where a delightful view stands before you...that said, happy trails !

Thanks for commenting! We ended up going to the pub as there was no local shop for miles, it being off-season and all. Had a good dinner though! :)
