Iam very lucky to live in Speyside and less than 6 miles from both these distillerys. I also deliver their yeast. I love both and have them in my Whisky room, but prefer the Tamdhu.

Interesting comparison review. I’ve been curious about Tamdhu 15, but I can’t justify the $125 price in my area, especially when I can pick up the GlenAllachie 15 for only $75. I really love what Billy Walker is doing with GlenAllachie and their expressions will only continue to get better in the coming years.

Yeah Total Wine has it for $125 by me. Although I lucked out at a small shop that had it for $90. Bought two. Still haven’t opened it. On the flip side. There’s one place only that has Edradour 12 for $92! A 12 yr old. Idk if that is justified. Although I’ve been told that 12 is better than the Tamdhu by another reviewer.
Yeah in Australia Tamdu 15 is $125aud but Glenallachie 15 is selling for about $165, so Tamdu 15 is much better value and I hate to say it but Glenallachie is overhyped. I just opened a Tamdu 15 for the first time today after a recommendation for Roy at Aqvavitae and on neck pour alone was better than all the Glenallachie whiskies I've tried, at least for my palate. Very impressed
I can't comment yet on either but I own a bottle of the Tamdhu 15 (unopened). It was $105 CDN in Calgary Alberta (used to be the center of North America.....at least it was trying to be....but well....). My experience with Glenallachie is with the 10 yr and a cask strength sample. They were ok but didn't seem like anything special. The 15 year is probably better but it is also far more expensive in Calgary at least at one location....$140. At another location it is $116 CDN (multiply all prices by 0.8 to get USD). So based on Mark's review and the pricing here locally I think I made the right decision. Thanks for another great review Mark.
Well done, an excellent review. Quite agree. The Tamdhu 12 year has to be one of my all time fav 12 years ... if I don't have a spare one in there cupboard I get nervous and its a bargain, try it.
Thanks for the shout out ma man! I've got a Tamdhu 15 on the go right now and will have to do a head to head soon, which I'd also put against the Macallan 12. I have an open bottle of that that I got right after the rebranding - it's in the new bottle, but significantly darker than the version that finally made it to our neck of the woods. I'd say it likely has more European oak than these two 15's so to my palate, there's a chance it could still take the prize. I'll let you know!
Great comparison. I always wanted to try both. Never had a GlenAllachie, but I've had Tamdhu CS batch 1 and it was great. I think I will get the Tamdhu 15 for $105 at my Total Wine. Great review Mark.

@@WhiskyWhistle Mark, It was batch 4. It’s not bad but had high expectations coming from 15. 15 as you know is in the league of its own. If they bump up 15 closer to 50% abv, it will almost become unbeatable in that price range or even in the 200 dollar price range. Catch you soon, Mark
@@krishnar3493 I also loved the Tamdhu 15 and then bought the cask strength batch 4. Was dissapointed at first but I left the bottle open for two days then left it for a month. Came back to it and the juice has mellowed but a creaminess has developed. The spicy finish has subsided too.
Tamdhu upered their game now, especiallytheir cask management. Haven't had a chance to try that one yet; but 'd love to. Great review Mark. All the best

I am doubling down on Tamdhu!! Odd it’s the cheaper of the two there. I think the big difference is, Tamdhu is a classic Sherry malt whereas Glenallachie being originally a blenders malt, does a little of everything. I think they’re focusing too much on the sherry releases when they have utter gold like my Christmas bottle which is 10 years in virgin oak! Cheers Aaron🥃🥃🥃

Glen scotia 15 and Glen allachie 15 and styvasnt bulls eye maple and navy flake I'm still waiting for the tobacco as I ordered it from the US as its 1/3 of the price, I'm waiting for the pipe tobacco to get started as they are a mandatory combo for me 👍
Good idea for a comparison. Curious about Tamdu's maturation ? Think that probably spent it's entire 15 years in the same casks ? While we know Glenallachie are casks Billy Walker got with the distillery he bought and racked them into good quality casks he acquired for finishing. Cheers

Great comparison Mark. Here in California from the two best rated stores the Tamdhu 15 is selling for $130 and the Glenallachie 15 is selling for $96. Based on that I'll stick with the Glenallachie unless I can find a better deal overseas. Would you happen to know of any way to buy whiskies from the USA from Canada? I hear from Rob @ Whisky in the 6 that Alberta gets many great whisky bottlings like a variety of Kavalans that I cannot find in the USA.
Thanks so much! Yeah the price of Tamdhu is out of whack in USA. They do get lots of unique bottlings. I think the only way to make that work is to hand carry. Maybe join a couple Alberta Facebook groups and find out who is traveling.. I wouldn’t chance shipping anything over $100! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
