Glendale is an incorporated city in Los Angeles County that is located directly north of the downtown Los Angeles skyline. Today I am walking down Brand Boulevard which is a major artery running through the heart of Glendale. I will stroll past the many one-of-a-kind boutiques and popular restaurants venues located on Brand Boulevard. Among them is the 'Americana On Brand' outdoor shopping mall that offers everything from high-end restaurants, sidewalk cafes, a movie theater, and even charming private residences that overlook the central courtyard and water feature display.
Leslie Coombs Brand is often called the father of Glendale due to the role he played in the development of the city in the early 1900s. Brand explored the idea of building a residence in the foothills above Glendale where he had purchased land. He hired architect Nathaniel Dryden, his brother in law, to design and build a mansion based on the East Indian Pavilion he had seen at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. Today Glendale is a safe, thriving and diverse community that attracts visitors from far and wide to take in all it has to offer.
