If you are planning a trip to Skye, this is a little side road a few miles east of the Skye Bridge that you might wish to explore. It's a quieter area than Skye, prettier scenery and packed full of history and folklore.

Hi Megan, That's cool. We were sad to hear the news about Chris Main passing away last year, but the ferry seems to be going from strength to strength which is a great way to pay tribute to him.

We are going to Scotland in mid April 24 and this is the EXACT path that we want to take to Skye. The ferry started to be the only reason to go that way but videos like yours have opened my eyes to so many other things. Thank you so much for posting it.

I've just got back from Scotland, and I visited Glenelg for the ferry ride over to Skye. The mountain pass was beautiful and great for scenery photos. Due to the current cost of living crisis, the ferry was £10 for a single motorcycle, one way. Worth it for the experience. My favourite bit was seeing the sign, "Glenelg (Earth) twinned with Glenelg (Mars)" 😂

I haven't been to Glenelg for 40 years, amazing place. Love to go there again, love from Ipswich.

I visited those brochs a couple of weeks ago. I went to the end of the road and walked around the broch that's supposedly 1000 years older than the two you filmed. Driving along the one track road to get there was also enjoyable. Great views.

Do you mean Dun Grugaig, which is more of a horseshoe-shaped wall on a hillside rather than a circular Broch like Dun Telve? The glen is a magical place, especially when visited at dusk on a still evening.

@@SecretscotlandTours I'm not sure the name of it. It was at the end of a dirt road on a hillside not too far from a stream. It was incredibly magical that night since it was a bit overcast, drizzly and I was the only person in the area. The third broch was when you came to the fork in the road, to the right would take you to the Skye ferry and to the left it continued on until the road stopped near a house. Then you took the dirt road up the hill.

Bernera barracks were just one in a series of British Army bases stretching across Scotland by occupying forces opposed to the Stuart claim to the throne. I believe that the last English commander of Bernera, is buried in the local churchyard

Thanks for an informative video. We're first timers to Scotland and we'll be staying in Glenelg in July for two weeks. Really looking forward to it! Thanks again

Glenelg is an unusual choice for a first-time visit to Scotland. I'm guessing you've got lots of hill walking planned. There are some great areas of wilderness to explore around the shores of Loch Hourn. This is also the area where Gavin Maxwell (author of "Ring of Brightwater") lived with his pet otter Mijbil. You might wish to read the book before you arrive and to seek out the location of his house at Camusfearna (nothing remains other than a memorial stone as the house burnt down).
