Roma seems so much more of a menacing salesman in this rendition. Like a devil on your shoulder type. Meanwhile his office persona is like a young go-getter. The film Roma feels more like a mentor when selling, and a cocky prick at the office. Crazy how much interpretation can be made from these characters just trying to sell land.

As an actor myself, I thought this was very good. My only criticism is there should have been more pauses between the lines to build the tension. Especially when Williamson busted Shelly for robbing the office. Or when Williamson blew Romas deal. David Mamet is my favorite playwright. I've down his stuff in the past. Great Performances everybody.

Pretty good rendition, the guy playing Roma was awesome. The only thing I didn't like is that the guy playing Levene should give more pauses and speak slower at the last part, from when he's discovered to when he tries to bargain with Williamson. that would be more effective. But in other moments he's great too, so

I finished watching the movie version and the last part seemed a little different than the stage versions. What was Roma talking about when he told Williamson to give him half of Levine’s action? I don’t recall that being in the movie. Did he overhear the proposals that Levine was making to Williamson when he got caught? That doesn’t make sense though, because Roma was talking to the detective at the time. I know in the movie Roma made it sound like he wanted to go into business with Levine or something like that. It’s just in the stage version, it seems like Roma is trying to scheme behind Levine’s back, but I’m probably reading that wrong.
@tomshea8382
@tomshea8382 2 года назад
Roma is an apex predator; when he thinks Levene is going to be top guy, he schemes to get in a partnership with him, flattering to deceive and then (since he doesn't know the Nyborg sale was a bust) when he sees Levene is gone, he tells Williamson that as the top dog he should get Levene's action. So you're right, Roma is scheming all the while. He may like and respect Levene, but he's not going to let Levene get his fucking Cadillac.

So Shelly was told here that the contracts were stollen. So when Williamson asked him later how he knew he made it up, he should have just said everybody including you told me when I came into the office this morning that the contracts were stollen so you were making it up when you told Jim his contract was filed.
@danieljohns4519
@danieljohns4519 19 дней назад
There’s quite a bit of irony there, which I have to imagine was intended by Mamet. Levine crumbled pretty quickly. Williamson’s accusation wouldn’t be enough to convict or even charge him anyway. There were no witnesses to that conversation. Plus Williamson had motive to pin the robbery on Levine because, by his own admission, he didn’t like him. Levine forgot what Roma had said just minutes before - keep your mouth shut until you know the play.

Comparing to the film you can develop an appreciation for the finer points of timing and delivery. It feels rushed compared to the film and pause before the laugh line "you are a shithead" was not long enough to maximize the laugh.

DirectorQuincyPerkins, thank you very much for sharing the tape with us. You've made a wonderful performance yourself as a Roma Pacino made his Roma and you did yours. Both are amazing and very different. But I personally think (and I understand this is just only mine point of view) that actors playing Levene and Williamson are total miscast. Levene looks like he has troubles with delivering his lines. His performance is not convincing. I have a feeling he is suffered from some seriouse illnes during the show. Like Parkinson or Alzgeimer - something like that. I'm really sory if he has healh issues. I'm just saying what I see as a spectator, nothing more. Williamson looks like pimp or giggolo or Zorro - nothing close to an office rat, as Williamson is. I worked as a salesman myself and also I'am unable not to compare the actor's performance with what Spacey did. This two actors (Levene and Williamson) completely ruined the last scene - the worst scene in a production. But in general - wonderful show!
