She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's I think around 1975 .. I wonder what year this is ...? Did you notice how he got all choked up when he said how much he loves her ... I wonder if it was after she was diagnosed with that horrible Alzheimer's .
@@gardensofthegods yes SOME stories say they did have a romance for yrs but never Married, I would say that is one big mistake in his life. I think RITA H is probably in top 3 of most beautiful and modest ladies ever in films
@@michaelceraso1977 well I don't know if you really had the chance to marry her I think didn't he had a total of four wives ... maybe the timing was bad for them both but yeah he probably would have been happier being married to her
Wow! This was such a heartwarming clip. He left us with so many excellent films, thank you Glenn. It’s goes to show our lives are a testament. His love for his Mother was so beautiful; nothing like a loving Mother!!!
Of ALL the great Hollywood film stars, for my money Glenn Ford is the most natural and sincere on screen. It's good know that what you see is what you get.
Glenn Ford as a great actor and judging for how he conducted himself on this show, the was a fine decent man with no ego problems at all! He was always one of my top five regardless of genre!
No offense whatsoever, and I truly mean it, but just because someone knows how to conduct themselves well in public, that doesn't mean they're the same great person behind the scenes. I'm not saying he was a bad guy or anything, but you do have to remember he was a trained actor, and knew how to conduct himself in front of the camera.
One of my very favorite actors! The sacrifices he made for our country, how he misses his father; how loving, respectful and devoted he is to his mother....not to mention how I love ALL of his movies.....Glenn Ford.....one of the best Hollywood had to offer!
I knew there was a reason I always admired Glenn he wasn't just an amazing Actor but a Genuine kind loving caring man the world lost an incredible soul when he died Rip Glenn back with yr Parents u adored so much no wonder yr Son was so adorable he couldn't have had a better role model i loved all yr films esp yr Westerns
Such nice, decent, strong, kindly man huge figure ...My late father grew up adoring him and he said so much about him, amazingly he looked like kim both phisically and mentally so Glenn Ford became my biggest hero too and for many good reasons ... DAD I MISSED YOU LIKE GLENN FORD MISSED HIS FATHER IN THIS SHOW .... rest in peace both ❤❤❤
Yep I totally agree made me cry when he said about his beloved Dad cos I love and miss my precious Dad every day and it's been nrly 43 yrs since Bowel Cancer took him from me at the young age of 52 to all the amazing Fatgers and Mums out there that we have lost wd all love and miss u so very much and 1 day we will be back tigether like Glenn is with his beloved Parents
I have always enjoy Glenn's movies. Never a bad one. Now that I see him here, such a kind, calm and genuine gentleman, I think much higher of him. To be open about his love for his mother is a beautiful and emotional touch. Made me cry.
Family man? His diaries record how he slept with 146 women. Eleanor Powell divorced him for mental cruelty. He bugged every telephone call in or out of their house, including his son's. No wonder Richard Nixon paid tribute to him! A prime case of a public image completely at odds with reality.
@@esmeephillips5888 Eleanor Powell apparently focused on being a mother and wasn't much of a wife to Glenn Ford after their son was born. That didn't give Ford the right to cheat, but it takes two in marriage. I will say the lion's share of the failure of the marriage was Ford's, but Powell was not blameless either.
@@Muirmaiden Ford was an odd bird, leaving vast documentary evidence of his infidelities. Was this a kind of confession? Apparently, like many womanizers, at the end of his days when he was ailing and being ripped off by 'carers', he started to lament that he had not tried harder to make his marriage work. I agree that there was a streak of dedication in Eleanor that did not make her a natural spouse. I suspect she was taken aback by the warmth that greeted her in occasional comebacks (e.g. the London Palladium in 1949, 'Duchess of Idaho' in 1950) and that might have made her regret her retirement. But she was 30 and convinced that late motherhood (by the standards of her time) coul not be combined with her kind of strenuous professionalism; also, she was increasingly absorbed by her mission work and being 'married to God'.
@@esmeephillips5888 Who knows. Ford stated until the end that Rita Hayworth was the love of his life and he kept a photo of her in his bedroom. I do think he loved Eleanor Powell but they probably weren't suited for each other. Like I said after Peter was born the marriage between Ford and Powell was in name only. They had separate bedrooms for years. Why they stayed married for as long as they did, who can say.
Glenn Ford was always a favorite actor of mine, and seemed to be such a nice man in general. served his Country in the Marines and the Navy with honors, had good roles and played them well, has earned his admiration!
@@conniem9194 Yes, he has aged. Most of us don't look at all like our young selves 47 yrs down the line. He was 28 when the show was filmed, today he's 75.
His wife of 15 years, film star Eleanor Powell did not think he was such a lovely human being. At her divorce hearing from Glen in 1959 she described him as moody, silent, abusive and extremely jealous and insecure of her fame and talent.
@@jackanthony976 it was a bitter divorce, she cited "emotional cruelty". How was he jealous of her fame and talent? She basically retired when she married him, save for some dancing tours and some dance sequences in films. Also, they spoke by phone shortly before she passed away and it was obvious that she forgave him.
According to Peter's book, Eleanor Powell's films were constantly recycled in the movie theatres, both here and abroad so her fame continued to follow her years after her "retirement."
MUIRMAIDEN: The evidence of him being jealous is in the interviews that Miss Powell gave to the newspapers and magazines that covered her divorce from Glenn Ford. Peter Ford, the son, writes about it in his biography of his famous parents. Also Shirley MacClaine remarked in one of her books that when she was working with Glenn in a movie she expressed to him how much she loved Miss Powell's movie work. According to Miss Maclaine, Glenn did not appreciate the compliments of his wife's movies.
Watching his Marine Commander discuss their time in combat at 11:50 is very touching. Back then men were hesitant to embrace but I could tell they shared a relationship that two men in combat feel to each other.
@Richard E. Miranda Jr. He wasva very handsome man a mans man. No pretty boy stuff. A real down to earth handsome man. One of the best looking men in Hollywood.
oh my God thank you David Mclntyre for the beautiful video from Glenn Ford .... what a touching story and he was very devoted to his mom thank and thank you again for the great "memories".
Wow ... what an awesome down to earth man , and a great actor. Thanks so very much for taking the time and effort to share this with others. R.I.P. Mr. Glen Ford and I pray that now you are at peace with your Mom and Dad . :) xoxo
One of my favorite movies is "The Fastest Gun Alive." Of all the old cowboy actors, Ford was considered the fastest draw in Hollywood. He sat a horse better than any actor, then and now
Enjoyable clip and thanks for uploading. Glenn Ford was born in Canada and was a great-nephew of Canada's first Prime Minister (and founder of our country) Sir John A MacDonald. When Glenn was 8 years old his family moved to the United States and he became a very good actor and citizen.
I worked on the first Chris Reeve Superman with Ford. He was not the warmest guy in the world, especially considering how nice literally everyone else was. Heavy drinker, I think.
I loved Glen, he was an excellent actor and so handsome.Gilda was one of my favorite movies, but theres been so many, In 3-10 to Yuma he was just fabulous. it's hard to choose just one. Such a sweet, nice guy, who loves his mother, and how sweet she was. It was nice they gave her the bracelet with the charms of her son's life to her. Very nice family
One of my favourite actors - interpreter of stories - and he chose great movies to act in. I didn't realise he was Canadian. He's perfectly gorgeous on this show - but it's all a bit overwhelming for him. They are rushing him a bit.
I had always a "crush" on Glenn Ford since I was 8 years old. He accomplished everything in his life. His love life was more than unsuccessful, what happened so often with good looking actors like him. They should never get married, in my opinion!
Thank you for this video I just read Glenn Ford's book written by Peter Ford I read it twice and then hand it off to somebody else to read. They said some studios didn't think he could be a leading man cuz he looks so young but he showed them with his charisma and lovemaking on the screen was really something young or not her that he wasn't that young sometimes and he's late 20s 30s he sure knew what he was doing the women couldn't resist.
This was made in 1973; he was 57. Within a year he would be involved with a woman, Cynthia Hayward, that would drive a wedge between Glenn, his family, and many of his closest friends. They would marry in 77, divorce in 84.
Oh, this is terrific!! Thanks so much for posting. For years I've been searching for TV footage of Glenn, but there's not an awful lot out there. I see that you've only recently put this up. Any more stuff? Very touching that he was so devoted to his mother.
