Hoddle isn't just the reason I support Spurs, he's the reason I love football. Never since seen 1 single player who could capture the imagination in such a way Hoddle was able. There are players today who are exciting & with immense skill but Hoddle was an artist and football was his masterpiece. You can see step-overs and backheels so many times (& Hodd was pretty good at that too) but to be captivated simply by the way a player can strike and manipulate a football, that's something else!
GLENN HODDLE WAS THE BEST PLAYER I EVER SAW PLAYING....HE WAS THE BEST PASSER OF A BALL THE GAME HAS EVER SEEN......I WOULD HAPPILY OF PAID ANY MONEY TO WATCH HIM ,AND HIM ALONE ...SO GRACEFUL AND STYLISH.....WITH AN END PRODUCT..........and I am a ARSENAL fan !!!!!
"Maybe I am, a little different from other players. They will tell you that Pele, Maradona, Cruyff are their idols - I will say Glenn Hoddle" - Denis Bergkamp "After Maradona, Glenn was the best player I ever worked with. He was God." - Ossie Ardiles "It takes moral courage to play the way Hoddle does". - Brian Clough "I'd heard a lot about Glenn Hoddle, but until I actually played against him I did not realise just how good he was" - Johan Cruyff
I am a Chelsea supporter but I have to admit that Glenn Hoddle was on of the most talented, majestic and intelligent players I have ever seen. Like Zidane, he was not only technically brilliant but also seemed to think in different dimensions.
Glenn Hoddle is the greatest of all time. Can anyone name an English footballer with equally the same skill as him?. The only two other naturally gifted greats are Bobby Charlton and Gazza.
Hodd had a swagger that no other player was comparable to. He was unique in every way. People say these days that nobody strikes a football like Ronaldo, well nobody strikes one like Hoddle either. Whether the ball was in the air, on the floor, left foot or right . . . there was magic in them boots!
Without a doubt one of the greatest players I've ever seen. England should have built a team around Glenn. He was the most naturally gifted player of his generation. Actually, make that any generation. Right foot, left foot, no problem. The best passer of the ball I have ever seen. He had instant control of the ball no matter how it arrived to him. He was an absolute joy to watch. Just to watch him in the warm up before a game was pretty amazing, the little tricks he'd do. If he'd been Brazilian, French, Italian, Argentinian or whatever he'd have been captain of his country and would have won 150 caps. He was that good.
spot on assessment. Don Revie once said he didn't select him that much because he couldn't tackle! Probably true but who cares when you can pass, shoot etc like Hoddle could. Genius
When I went to Spurs al;l during Hoddles time, all I had to see was his name on the teamsheet and nothing else mattered. I knew whatever happened that day, I would see something very special. He seldom disappointed. Pure genius. I was fortunate enough to meet him, and my now 28 son is pictured with Hoddle holding him as a 1 year old..priceless. The best I have ever seen as an Englishman.
being born in 86 i missed out on hoddle, just watched this and realised how good he was... if england had a creative centre mid like this today we wouldn't be in such a sad state....
England would have won the World Cup if the name Robson didn't exist, in both player and Manager, Bobby and Bryan were useless!! Ron Greenwood was another A.... HOLE!! This guy was years ahead of his time, the most skillful player ever England have had. The amount of back spin he put on the crosses and long range passes, Steve Davis would have been proud of and Maradona was another player I used to see do this often. I'm sure there are others too but this was something i saw regular with Hoddle! His vision was second to none!! Give Glenn the pitches of today, good lord what would he have on our hands and absolute Monster!!! :-) LEGEND!!!!
Left foot, right foot, goals, assists ... Glenn Hoddle. Absolute pure class. Magnificent footballer the like of which we will not see again. Some player
Remember the first time i ever saw Glenn down the Spurs, John Pratt hit this ball going out at a rate of knots for a by, suddenly this leg reach's up and out and Glenn brought the ball down to his feet, it was an outstanding and impossible looking bit of skill and we all knew this boy's going to be special.
he really was unbelievable , his vision and ball striking were unbelievable, pity we had geoff thomas and carlton palmer or hoddle may have made more apps :O)
We will never see the like of him again. Next to Greavesie he is my all time favourite Spurs player. An absolute Legend. Born Is The King Of White Hart Lane.
@sheikorbit I can't believe Emile Heskey has many more appeareances than him. He's the best English footballer ever, and a true genius of the game. A crying shame. Posterity will guarantee his legend.
love the one at 2.12. must be 40yd + strike at anfield when they were unbeatable. not just a whack ,as anyone can fluke one of them occasionally, but a real technical "whack" ;)
In the 1980's, when the player's you list were at Spurs, Spurs finished above Arsenal as many times as Arsenal finished above Spurs. However, Spurs also won 2 FA Cups (which in those days was considered a priority over the League) and reached another final in 1987. Spurs also won the UEFA Cup in 1984. Arsenal only won the League Cup in 1987 and then the League title itself in 1989. Arsenal were not, I'm afraid , "simply better" at all.
Only 57 caps. Typical small time mentality from England. A pure talent and a genius player. Left, right, in the air, on the ground it mattered not; Hoddle could spin away and create space in a flash. The master of passing (has there ever been a better long-passer?) he could split open defences in an instant. Not only that his loping and languid style would fool opposition players as he waltzed around them and glided over the grass, shifting the ball around without effort. 57 caps. An absolute travesty.
+Retro Brothers Michel Platini said that if he was French he would have got 150 caps. The sad truth is that not only is that probably true, it shows how behind the times England always have been and the distrust towards flair players.
@@redflag8970 Hoddle every time.Gerrard not in same class. Ask Maradonna,Zidane,Ardiles,Platini,Wenger,Cruyff,Bergkamp. Game set and Match Hoddle, and all Hoddle fans.
You muppet. Showing your ignorance there a bit, aren't you? The years in which the players you list actually played Spurs often finished above Arsenal. What's more, they'd won the FA Cup more times than anybody else (including Arsenal) and Spurs STILL have more European trophies in their cabinet to this day. There were periods in the last 120 years where Arsenal dominated Spurs, there were periods when Spurs ruled Arsenal. The Premier League has been Arsenal's time, that's all
The England manager then often ignored him because he didn't fulfill enough quota of tackles during a game. They were only looking for work horses to don the England shirt. Artists like him has no place in the team.
Gerrard as a Leader and Driver of his team, he was more inspiring and complete but Hoddle was technically a better player. Hoddle more talent but nobody is Gerrard
@@redflag8970 so you.ve bad memory How many will remember them.30 years later. Maradonna,Zidane,Bergkamp,Ardiles, platini,Wenger ,rate him as a legend. so you dont recall volleys from 30 yards and 70 yard passes while playing for England!! Legends support and eulogise Hoddle, you speak about one footed one dimensional predictable club pro's who wont be remembered in 20 years. Ardiles says Greatest Player after Maradonna,Bergkamp says Better than Pele. opinions of superstars kind of nullify your narrative. take care.Lampard.:)
