Glennis Grace - De Vlieger
Ruim 5.500 mensen waren getuige van een spectaculaire show waar de zangeres gedurende 2,5 uur schitterde op de bühne. Tijdens dit concert werd zij bijgestaan door haar 10-koppige live band en collega-artiesten Edwin Evers, Lange Frans en Candy Dulfer. Ook zorgde komediant Jandino Asporaat als zijn alter ego Judeshka voor een hilarische surpriseact.
Glennis Grace weet met haar prachtige stem het publiek in ontroering te brengen en zo waren de reacties na afloop uitzinnig. Ook de pers was zeer lovend. Van 'Glennis Grace betovert HMH' (Spits) tot aan 'Glennis ontroert volle HMH' (NLTracks). Iedereen was het er over eens; dit was een concert waar je bij geweest moest zijn!

Glennis is singing in Dutch with (in this song) an Amsterdam accent. So well done!

Her voice is so special, it sort of adjusts to fulfill the song's original spirit and then she brings her own touch and becomes an unforgettable performance. This happens with every song, I was very surprised when she sang Amy Whinehouse - Valerie, Glennis perfectly captures the song spirit and channels it through her unique voice, so we feel Amy's spirit through it and Glennis personal soul to it as well. It's remarkable.

Do you understand now why no one is knowing her in America? Just look how much likes she generate with any Dutch song in comparing with her English covers. And then there is often a reaction from American viewers on RU-vid that she is not original and a wannabe.

Michael, just as in Holland, America has various points of views. I am what you call an obsessed fan. I listen to every song I can, see every video I can and so on. A lot of the reactions on RU-vid are from americans, therefore a lot of favorable reactions are from americans also. Me being one of them. Of all the songs I have heard from Glennis, there is not one that I thought after listening to it, not original or a wannabe. I love her, as a lot of Americans do. We're not all evil....just trump and the trumpers and trumpettes!! LOL

Michael Steel But this song is a special one, of course. Many Dutch love a good cover of this typical Jordaan song from the late Andre Hazes. It would be a miracle if an American knows who he was and how popular he still is in The Netherlands.

jhcfight It is not about what kind of cover or from whom. It is simply that the interest of the English speaking viewer is gone on the moment they start listen to a Dutch Glennis cover. Americans are more interested in their own musical culture. While we are interested here in Europe what is happening in the music world on the other side of the Atlantic. That's the only reason Glennis sing her English covers now days. And Americans (some) believe she has no own repertoire and like to be a wannabe instead. The reason she do it is fairly simple, but they can't except the fact how different the history of music differs between Europe and America.

She is singing this song in Dutch but with a typical local Amsterdam accent 😆. It's a song about a girl who tries to communicate with her deceased mother by flying a kite with a letter.

In all fairness, "I can't stand that woman that took her place" isn't the correct translation. "that I can't get used to that other woman" would be a better one.
