In this film artist Andy Beck visits the Wainwright fell of Glenridding Dodd near the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District. It is a short walk of only 3 miles but to add extra interest Andy makes this an unusual route by visiting a delightful but unfrequented neighbouring top with fine views over the lake.
NEW FEATURE: If you have enjoyed this film and found it informative why not "buy me a coffee" as a reward for my time and efforts? www.buymeacoff...
You will see that there is no sponsorship within the film, Andy makes these films solo and free from affiliation to share his days out on the landscape where he sketches and paints.

I wonder if anyone has given a name to that summit which I visit in this film? It certainly is a top worthy of inclusion in some hillwalking lists but I have yet to find it. if you know, feel free to leave a comment.

Thanks for sharing Andy. A beautiful and informative video. I stumbled across the ascent from the bus stop purely by chance one time, and it’s such a beautiful untrodden route. The views are spectacular. Thanks again 😊

Thanks for watching and commenting Eddie. Yes, it a nice little route which can be shortened if needed by missing out that other top.

sad that some folk don't respect the landscape. It seems to be happening a lot at the minute. Glad that you enjoyed the vid.

It's a nice little fell Andy but a steep climb up, the way we went, which was different to yours. I was up with about 18 months ago with a great landscape photographer, Chris Sale and I really enjoyed the day and the views. You had a belter of a day for it mind and some great photos. I think I would have been happy if my estimation was only 25 feet out lol and it looks like you came down the way we went up and down. Nice way to finish in the Travellers Rest and yes, I did enjoy this very much, cheers Alan

Thanks Alan, yes the route that you took to ascend the fell was probably the same as I used in descent, known as The Rake. I have been up GD many times but always look for different routes and nearly always circular, this route is a good way for variation.

Lovely video, I did a similar walk in the summer. I suspect it's better to ascend Mossdale than descend, at least if you're a bit creaky like me. In your wonderful book Andy, you mention AW's original list of 260 fells. Have you published the list of inclusions and exclusions to reach the final 214? There would be interest in that, I'm sure.

Hi Peter, Thank you for commenting, apologies that it has taken so long to reply, I didnt receive a notification of your comment for some strange reason. I am currently working on that list and it is included in my new project...The Lakeland 365.

Feet up, cup of tea, and relax with another cracking film. Excellent quality as usual Andy. I was down in Glenridding a few months ago and took some photos towards the summit of Glenridding Dodd. I am going to look back at them, and see if I can spot the Cairn you were shooting from. Thanks for sharing these picturesque routes that avoid the crowds.

Thank you Chris. That cairn was the only measured height in AW's day, nearly 100' lower than the summit, probably the reason there is a good cairn there. It's a pleasure to share.
