This tutorial series deserves so many more views than they have. I ordered an XR - Pro a week ago and now I'm waiting for it, so these videos are helping me a lot. Thank you for uploading all this great content. In a world where the gorilla pod is the choice instead of some sort of stabilizer, I feel the need to recognize the work you are doing in this channel! Thank you so much!
Darío Rodriguez hoooo thank you a lot I really appreciate your nice comment. I know there is a lot of tutorials and tips on RU-vid. Some may can help you, some not. Stay in training and believe in your capabilities. Cheers Dario Stefan
Yes, there is an incredible amount of tutorials around here, but yours are the first I've found being made by a professional. You keep things simple and easy to follow so watching these tutorials helps to boost my confidence about getting the results I want!
Thank you so much for making these training videos. I've found them so helpful and easy to understand. I also appreciate you talking about safety and how to operate in a healthy way for your body! Can't wait to watch more!
Thank you muchly. I recently brought a Gidecam HD4000 and a X10 for $500 total. I'm so excited that I found your channel and videos. Your way makes so much sense.
I came across your channel about year ago when purchasing C100 Mk II and your review and setup was amazing. Since I was mostly tripod-shooting, stabilization was more or less out of my needs. Which has changed recently. I've seen ton of tutorials how to steadicam, but your series is simply the best - moving, hands, drills, tips - and with C100 Mk II as a bonus. I really like your tutorial, even though it is almost 4 years old now. Some things never get old. PS: I am Czech too... not by name, but nationality :-D
Thank you. This is the thing: the physics and correct use of a stabilizer will not become obsolete. But unfortunately there are a lot of misleading tips and tricks out there in the wild 😜
@@StefanCzech That's why I chose glidecam over a motorized gimbal :-). However, when I put my C100 Mk II (with side grip, without top handle) with 16-35 lens, balance it properly and have like 2 weights on the stabilizer,, my arm (I am right-handed) gets tired pretty soon and image gets wobbly. How do you handle huge camers, such as FS7 with such an ease? Do you do some forarm workours? :-)
@@potvoramedia ok, the C100 MK2 on a Glidecam is handheld good for 5-10min. Take a look on the Smooth Shooter from Glidecam. It is a West and Arm for your Glidecam. With this, you can putt some more weights on the setup. Make it heavier and much smoother. And you don’t need any power in your arm anymore. It’s worth
@@StefanCzech Yeah, the video of you correcting and manipulating the huge setup with just few fingers was pretty convincing and made me believe the vest is the way to go. Thanks for your helpful insights, especially the time estimate, I started thinking how weak I am (and let's be honest, C100 Mk2 is not the heaviest camera in the world). Tomorrow (well, today) I have some nature shooting scheduled, so I will try my best to take some breaks from time to time :-).
@@StefanCzech thank you for taking the time out to reply to my comment I am so honored, if you have an online course or masterclass on steadicam operation please point me to it as I have too many questions :D thank you again so much
@@StefanCzech thank you so much! one thing i dont understang is the relation between the camera rig weight and the bottom weight plates. I can get a balanced system with a 2 second drop down time with many weights and a short pole, or with fewer weights and a longer pole, where is the sweet spot in that formula? would i get less tendancy for involantary bottom swing causing dutch angles with a longer or shorter pole? it seems to be the most tricky part for me. what would making the top heavier or lighter do? i have the option of adding or removing on camera monitor and cage and such.. appreciate sharing the knowledge !!! the set up is a blackmagic pocket cine cam and flycam redking gimbal with a cheap flycam comfort vest with its single spring arm. (not using vest and arm much at the moment)
Thanks Stefan! I just made the leap from gimabal to manual. I feel so much more confident and in control! Thanks to your training it’s been helping a lot! Going to invest in the x10. 8kg payload you say? So I should be more than fine with Bmpcc4k 6krpo etc :)
thanks so much. so much insight. life saver. i have the hd 4000 but i bought a third party vest and arm for 500 CAD. I am now seriously considering getting the x 10 as i think that is a much higher quality product.
Ibrahim, you welcome. The X10 fits perfect for the Glidecam. But keep in mind, to operate the gimbal - HD4000- the same as handheld. Proper balancing, proper hand/finger position! Cheers
Hi, thanks for the comment. Yes, the Steadycam operation needs some power and strength. It is important to keep your back straight. To train that, break it down into shorter sessions. 5-10min. and than pause. Don’t turn you upper body to much, work with your body. Keep up you training and train you skills 😎
I've now seen all your 7 stabilizer videos and I am extremely grateful to you (and Glidecam) for providing these. Ps. It seems like you too have a "slight ninja-walk"...? ;-) Pss. No video about the forearm braces / arm vest supports...? 150-400 USD sounds much better than 1500-15000 USD for an enthusiastic amateur videographer.
Great tutorial as always, Stefan! Quicn question: I own a DGS Glidecam and my main set up is a GH4 and Sigma 18-35mm, my problem is that the lens is a bit wider than that camera and its not allowing me to mount the GH4 correctly. I have to move it way far back and then its pretty tough to balance due to the weight. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to even everything out? Thanks in advance :) -Lee
Hi Stefan, thanks for another great video. Do you think the x-10 will do nicely for the Ursa mini pro? If you were going to choose a system from Glidecam for the Ursa mini pro specifically, would you choose 2000,4000,devon (and why not the alternatives?) The difference in price between the x10 and x20 is huge and might be overkill.
Hi James, sorry for late replay. It depends on the weight. The DGS carry up to 5,5kg. So if you stripp down the URSA mini 2,7kg the body alone, will work. But keep in mind, that this is heavy for handheld operation. It will work fine with a X10 west and arm system.
Hi Stefan. I'm thinking about X10. My arms and back will be healthier but this X10 will improve smoothness? My fotages will be better? Or X10 influences only for health?
Hi, I speak Spanish and I am using a translator. What is the difference between the two-arm vests with springs and the vests with one fixed arm and the other with a spring? Thank you greetings from Argentina
Great tutorial! Will this Glidecam X-10 vest work with the Glidecam Hd 1000? I filmed a wedding with it and my wrist was so sore as I filmed for quite a while.
Hello Stefan, this is realy a great Video Series! I have a question regarding the tilting bracket from the X10 which you begin to explain at about 6:40 in the Video. I did not understand excactly what do you mean with "don't need to lean forward and backward to compansate the movement. ". Which movement? Isn't the springload adjustment on the springarm exactly for that matter? Maybe you can you give me a further explanation of this topic. Thank You! Vielen Dank!!!
codemanat1 hi, thanks for your feedback. With the bracket, you can adjust the position of the arm in relation to you body shape. Wearing the west give the attachment point to the arm a individual point in space. Depending on your body size.
Hello Stefan, I have been watching your videos and following your training instruction. Though my glidecam seems balanced but I’m not getting the smooth shots. I defiantly need more practice but I don’t even know if I’m using the right glide cam. I have HD4000 with Canon SL2 and Tokina 11-20mm lens. Please help, thank you
Hi, HD4000 is meant for heavier equipment. You could try adding some more weight on top of the HD4000. Try adding 2-3 pounds (1-1,5 kg) more weight. You can easily do it by gaffa-taping the weight discs that come with the HD4000. If there are enough of them...
Ali Asjad thank you. Please watch my other parts of this Serie. Espinosa part one I described it in deep. Of course you can play with some more weights. And pay attention to your finger and your walk
Thank Stefan. One more question: I mounted an electronic gimbal right on the arm post of the X10, but the system gets hard kicks while walking. All 4 springs are set to 1.5. Is the payload to light? Do I need to add more weight?
Hi, you put an e-Gimbal on top? I think, this gimbal try to compensate the z axis. The weiht on the arme is right when both armes more or less on the same level. That’s not the problem. Eventuell you give me a call 🧐 because you are in Germany. Stefan
Hi Stefan, My X-10 arm cant seem to take the weight of the fs7 unlike yours in the video. Is there a difference between the blue X10 arm and the Black one?
hey Stefan great series thank you - just about to pull the trigger on a Devin Graham Sig series after much internal debate between an electronic 3 axis gimbal and a Glidecam. The 3 axis gimbals just can't seem to match the GC for the true 'organic' gliding (IMO) - in experienced hands at least Just wondering if you have any thoughts/experience yet with the new Glidecam 'True Horizon" glidecam.com/product-tru-horizon looks like a great concept to me and will really help with the horizon issue us newcomers experience. Be interesting to see how the market accepts it over the long term - there's not a lot of test footage out yet.
Hi TT, its funny becouse right in this moment i produce a review of the TH ;-) Ist a very interesting concept, but...stay tuned and follow my chanel. Cheers Stefan
Stefan sorry to disturb but, I am afraid that you are teaching people a VERY wrong and DANGEROUS way to mount and dismount. You must NEVER bent your knees, always bow at the hip, then stand up while stepping forward. Bending the knees will lead to injury the heavier and heavier the cameras become.
Hi Stefan. I'm thinking about X10. My arms and back will be healthier but this X10 will improve smoothness? My fotages will be better? Or X10 influences only for health?
Hi Michal, not it dont become "smoother" from only using the X10. It helps carring the sled. But keep an eye on the correct balance, and your handling...and it will be very smooth ;-)
