5:25 Bow never actually dated Perfuma, he was her Plus 1 for the Princess Ball but nothing happened beyond that. Aside from that, Perfuma gets together with Scorpia later.
I don’t think bow and perfuma were dating, I think they were just becoming friends and glimmer took it the wrong way because her mom didn’t pay enough attention to her and she was afraid that bow would do the same
The original only had purple hair in that one episode. It was when she tried to dye her hair or somethin an it went wrong. But the original always had her purple tiara on.
I love her. I don't get why so many people dislike her. Maybe she was a little annoying at the beginning but I still liked her. To me she was a very fleshed out character that became more and more interesting as the series progressed.
I think people mostly dislike Glimmer for Season 4. I understand why they were angry with her but I appreciate that the writers had the guts to show that she's not as much of a good guy as she likes to think she is. To Glimmer's credit, she realised that she fucked up and put a hell of a lot more effort into redeeming herself than Catra did. Glimmer had to actually work to regain Bow's trust, while Catra just waltzed back into Adora, Entrapta and Scorpia's lives and received unconditional forgiveness for being a terrible person. Season 4 made Glimmer one of the most complex and multifaceted characters in the series and that's one of the reasons why I think it's objectively the best season. This is coming from an Entrapdak shipper who would love the show more if Entrapta and Hordak were the protagonists. If I think that the best season is the one where Glimmer becomes a bitch and Entrapta spends most of her time on Beast Island where she can't interact with Hordak, it means that they handled Season 4 really well. Too bad they couldn't maintain that level of quality in Season 5.
@@tomnorton4277so saving Glimmer, apologizing to evereyone and saving the entire universe from horde prime doesn't count ? Catra did things to redeem herself
@@toamszkozak8822 Continuing to blame Adora for abandoning her as well as gaslighting Adora about fighting her friends shows that Catra never actually changed. She just switched sides. There's a difference between switching sides and becoming a better person.
@@tomnorton4277 when djd she blamed adora in season 5? And that line about fighting your friend was supposed to be Linda of a joke, also Catra withput hesitation jumped into fire for Adora do maybe stop with that bs
@@toamszkozak8822 "Just this once, stay." In the "romantic" climax, Catra was STILL gaslighting Adora about leaving. Adora did everything she could to help Catra and get her away from the Horde until she finally realised that Catra's just an evil person during the portal disaster. A disaster that as good as killed Glimmer's mother I might add, something that is 100% ignored in Season 5. To quote Adora; "You made your choice. Now live with it!"
There really isnt any history there unfortunately. IIRC he is an original character for this iteration of the show and wasn't based on anything. and this show doesnt focus on him so we don't get history about him
Something the series does really well and subtly is that the characters do literally grown. Their height does slightly alter, and, most noticeably, their faces sort of slim out a bit as they age and mature.
I loved everything about this! People don’t give Glimmer enough credit. Her flaws make her relatable and she has so many positive qualities haters choose to ignore.
I wasn’t a Glimmer fan for the first 4 seasons but I loved the culmination of her growth in season 5. She starts 2 become far more empathetic through her growing friendship with Catra (since they have ‘almost ending the world’ in common now!) & she starts 2 c how her actions affect people, as Bow didn’t forgive her right away. She could tell without Adora having 2 completely spell it out that she wanted 2 go back 4 Catra & didn’t question y she would want 2 do so......bcuz she already knew 😌 I also believe she helps Adora in terms of seeing things from another’s perspective (since Adora struggled a LOT 2 understand Catra’s emotional turmoil) as she tells Adora not 2 expect an immediate 180 improvement from Catra & (if you’ve read Noelle’s online Fic) helps her further by telling her 2 give Catra space when she feels overwhelmed. So by the end, while she still wasn’t my fav, I had respect 4 her development.
I adore(a) Glimmer. She hasn’t just an amazing character design, she also kind of helped me accept my body. I would describe her as kind of chubby and a little bit more curvy than other characters, wich is the same bodytype I have. So ofc, I was really happy to see such a gorgeous character that is a little bit cubby.
UGH IKR, I love when people make chubby characters still pretty! I hate that trope of characters who are chubby are "disgusting lazy pigs who eat all day and fart all the time" it makes chubby people be ashamed of their weight, but Glimmer and Spinnerella made me confident. Their designs and body type showed me "even if you aren't that skinny you still can look beautiful"
What makes Glimmer special is that Rebellious Glimmer from Episode 1 was 100% right. It was necessary to actually fight the Horde and Angella is lowkey a terrible leader for the Rebellion a lot of the time. Glimmer is imo pretty consistently the brains of the Princess Alliance.
This Glimmer was an obnoxious brat at the start and honestly was still that even after she became Queen. Also OG Glimmer maybe had 2 instances where she was boy crazy. Don’t exaggerate just to make a point... Race doesn’t really exist in this show since it isn’t Earth. And the artists couldn’t even decide on her body size from episode to episode to terrible toy design.
Why did you not talk about the gem that belongs to bright moon aka the moonstone and also love you so much keep doing She Ra and tying it to SU because nothing can stop SU from your videos
I love this so much! glimmer is my favorite character, and she always gets too much hate for no reason, and I'm happy to see that others also see her force
Finally!!!! My most favorite princess! (But please don't ever ask me to choose between her and disney princesses because that's not a fair question in my book)
😂 ok her combat prowess wasn’t great at the start of the show but steadily improved with more experience. Half her moves before becoming queen were punches, kicks, and staff work augmented by her photo kinetic sparkle powers ✨🤜🏾💥
I've been watching the origina lShe-ra and mostly, the original Glimmer has no discernible personality. But I definitely recommend 'Come Home Glimmer' or whatever the episode is called. It's where Shadow Weaver manipulates Glimmer into getting mad at Adora for taking charge and it's the closest original Glimmer has gotten to remake Glimmer, that I know of
Glimmer then was much more like a 13-15 year old girl in a world of adults. And so her priorities were much more selfish and self-centered. Though, she did mostly just play the role of damsel in distress, even when her own powers could get her out of the scrapes, a trait the reboot fixed and actually sorta made fun of. (This was mostly because the writers in the 80s would forget she can teleport).
One thing that is so amazing of Glimmer is that she has this quote at the finale of the series that best summarizes her character, and I love it. “My mother (Angella) raised me to be brave. My friends taught me to be kind. And I’m stubborn. I get that from you (Micah). I won’t stop fighting! And I won’t lose another parent!” Is that incredible quote
0:46 How could you be so cruel to Vanilla? It's just as much a Flavor as Chocolate, Strawberry, and All the other Ice Creams out there! Without the Vanilla Flavoring added to the Ice Cream, all you're left with is a Milk-like Taste, what you should have said was the OG Glimmer is "Skim Milk" or something like that, Don't be Hating on Vanilla!
Absolutely adored this show! Having never watch anything to do with Masters of the Universe I was knocked flat with how good this series is and would love a He-Man series or connection!
Wait, was Bow actually dating Perfuma?? I thought they just went together as friends, were they actually dating?? That seems really odd, since uh.. We never saw ANY of that.
That’s a good question. I guess I’d go with when she breaks out of her restraints and bitch slaps or sparkle punches Shadow Weaver in the face! I also liked her apology to Bow, the part where she rescues him and Entrapta from the clones on Horde Prime’s ship and defeats her chipped father in a magic duel.
1985 Glimmer could had been a love interest for He-Man/Prince Adam and 1985 Glimmer looks like British actress Madeline Smith. Reboot Glimmer looks more badass and arrogant and sounds a bit like Sansa Stark.
The wiki says she is. Mostly because she seemed reeeally impressed by Adora's She-Ra form, like in Sword Part 2. Now please tell me Catra's bisexual too?
seems like you're treating Adora's wish vision as the actual future... Adora doesn't have future vision powers, that was explicitly her WISH for the future, the answer to Mara's question "what do YOU want after this is all over?" And Adora's dying brain manifested her deepest wish, a peaceful life with her two best friends finally together, and a relationship with the girl she's been in love with without letting herself realise before.
@@lillianclarke5316 not really, it's canonly "a beautiful wish". they were in the Crystal Castle, which manifests memories and wishes... Besides, the CORE of Adora's journey is that there IS no destiny. It's what you create, when you follow your heart. Hence the name of the final episode, aside the physical heart of the planet, and the heart-shaped failsafe on her chest.
@@lillianclarke5316 Noelle never mentioned anything about marriage. The whole point of Adora's wish vision was her realising what she wants for the first time in her life. Destiny is fake, after all, as this is what she learns with Light Hope's deception.
There's this new DC comic the title name is I'm not Starfire this story is about Star fire daughter she is the opposite version of Starfire you see the cover of this comic you're not going to be too happy and why I'm bringing talk about glimmer well does to in a way kind of similar I'm not comparing glimmer to Mandy how they look I'm saying they kind of similar backstory and come mother issues
@@lillianclarke5316 and even worse! og glimmer has no independence outside of her mom and is always treated as a silly girl who needs to be saved by she ra
@@nenakarra2579 That's true. She was very much the bratty little girl that turned into a damsel in distress and was high key the worst part of the original. Mostly because she would ALWAYS forget her own powers and just rely on She-Ra to save her. And the reboot gave a REALLY good reason for this being the case (running out of magic/needing to recharge) but they never actually USED it. She would always inexplicably have ONE MORE TELEPORT left. So they would have her playing both roles: the irresponsible teenager that burns through her magic just because she can AND the cautious planner that always keeps one ace up her sleeve. 80s Glimmer was played more like the avatar for kids. The example of bad behavior. Often times, early in the episode, she will get an idea to do something. Someone will warn her tat it's not a good idea or dangerous. She'll go against that and do it anyway (a trait that carried over to the reboot). But things will go bad just as everyone warned her, to the point that she can no longer save herself. Luckily for her, Adora was secretly watching out for her the whole time and comes to her rescue. Then Glimmer feels bad and she, and presumably the kids watching, learns her lesson by the end of the episode. (Which is something I WISH the reboot had carried over. NOW when Glimmer does something that is *ill advised* , things will go bad and then just WORK OUT so Glimmer doesn't feel bad, she DOESN'T learn a lesson OR she's painted to have been right the whole time). So, with that in mind, I understand WHY Glimmer was written the way she was. But it did annoy me that things didn't tend to stick with her. But, at the same time, the 80s series wasn't written to have an end. There was a beginning, and middle, but never end. So there were SMALL developments and very few things carried over from one episode to another. Glimmer's developments were never one of those things. Lol. But, no matter which version it is, 80s or reboot, Glimmer is still the worst character! Lol
Like I've said, if you badmouth the original, I got a word.... “They aren’t here for the male gaze…” Neither were the original versions… “They’re practically attired…” You consider Target-brand sweatsuits, flowing dresses, jumpers, and parkas practical for wartime huh? “Battle ready, smart, empathetic” Most of their battles were winging it and only won by plot armor, they routinely make the dumbest decisions, and if they were empathetic we wouldn’t have half the conflict. “Mom-uh!”-Glimmer. “Ughhhh…”-Mermista. So empathetic… “She beings her journey as a rebellious young royal…” and finished S5 basically exactly the same way. No growth. And where did she struggle between doing whats right or cool? And you considered that scream battle in the first few episodes as Glimmer having proficiency in hand to hand combat?! She chose to explore sorcery with SHADOW WEAVER over her literal aunt Castapella! WTF? Knowing how Adora would feel?? Her “moral concession to become more powerful” involved using a Doomsday weapon that her friends begged her not to use and then she did anyway… Also she places blame fully on Adora for what happened to her mother…YET when she meets with Catra who was ACTUALLY responsible, she’s not nearly as harsh if at all. She didn’t even mention her mother to Catra. How diplomatic… had no qualms making Adora cry though. “A running theme in She-Ra is family”… we just don’t have many actual parents or siblings on this show really. Except Bow and Glimmer… “8:04 ...in place of a boy-crazy princess whose story lines often revolved around dyeing her hair…” That was LITERALLY 1 single episode out of 93 for both subjects. I’d like to know how you define “often.” I know this'll probably not be responded to because it doesn't submit to the media narrative, but still putting some truth out there!
glimmer selfish and irresponsible actions killed her mother,. they really should have kept their hands off the she ra ip and made their own show since that's pretty mutch what they did. the only differnce would have been less damage to the she ra ip..
Did u even watch the show?? Glimmers actions were not selfish because she was trying to save adora. And tbh even if she stayed behind the same stuff would follow because they were gonna open the portal either way
I now this isn't the biggest problem in the series but I just couldn't stand with the "explanation" of for the honor of greyskull, it just completely makes no sense.
@@unapersonav1522 it doesn’t. From what I can tell, people probably kept asking but they never thought of an answer, so they threw in that explanation at the last minute... if you actually pay attention to the entire story they’re telling, you’ll notice all these things that don’t match up.
Damn it. I was hoping this wasn’t gonna just be another “dump on OG She-ra to make ours look better” (but still don’t) video and yet they went back to the same bag of tricks... These new versions don’t have anywhere near the character depth or design improvements they keep trying to indicate. Also if one more video tries to say "for the male gaze..." ugh.... did they send all of you the same email?
The thing I loved the most about her was that she was this short chubby princess, with pink and pastels as primary colors and who's primary power was sparkle...and she's the most prone to violence princess.
The whole earring thing instead of rings has shown up multiple times. Micha had earrings like Angela’s in the portal world and Spinerella and Netossa have neck pieces that look like they belong with the other one
Something that made me disappointed in the series, is that Catra was never confronted for her role in the death of Angella and Glimmer/everyone never confronts her about this.
I think it's because they're on similar terms as far as the damage they did. Catra got the queen killed, but Glimmer used the equivalent of a nuclear bomb, and they both understood the damage those things could do and thought that their reason was good enough to use them. In confronting Catra for her role in the queen's death, Glimmer opens herself up to criticism for her decision. So they agree instead to stay on a level playing field. If glimmer is forgiven, then catra has to be too, because they basically did the same thing.
He-man's getting a reboot that's just a continuation from the 80s version, it wouldn't make sense for them to be in the same universe. Also, he wouldn't have much relevance to the plot.
Okay just want to make it clear, I was fully 100% joking when I said Kyle, he's just the only dude there who looks like a theoretically wimpy version of He-man.
I would have loved to see some insight into her kingdom's crystal, and the elements she's associated with because of it. She has a moonstone, and her powers have a very strong "light" theme, hence her name (Glimmer) and the sparkles that she fights with, as well as the angelic symbolism of her mother, Angela. There's a lot of symbolism to explore in the elements whether they're classical Greek, Chinese Wuxing, or just common video game tropes. It makes for a great topic to explore with the Princesses of Power, since each one has their own associated element.
