In this video, I review the multiple choice section from the January 2024 Global History Regents. Watch as I read and explain the readings and visuals, as well as provide background information that corresponds to each question.
It is always a good idea to brainstorm information you may know about the topic being discussed in each document before reading. This will help you activate your prior knowledge. It is also recommended that you practice using the process of elimination when answering multiple-choice questions. You can exponentially improve your chances of success if you can eliminate a couple of answer choices.
Here are the various topics that appear on this section of the exam:
- Centralization of power in France under King Louis XIV
- Enlightenment ideas and philosophers
- Size and advantages associated with the Ottoman Empire
- Breakup of the Ottoman Empire
- Simón Bolívar and nationalism in South America
- Imperialism in China and the Opium War
- Protest movements during World War I
- The Scramble for Africa
- Decolonization in Africa
- African nationalism
- Vietnam War
- Fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War
- Reforms in China during the rule of Deng Xiaoping
- Tiananmen Square Massacre
- Globalization and the positives/negatives associated with free trade
- Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- Human rights violations in the former Yugoslavia
