This is a table-top review and comparison of the Glock 19 Gen 5 and the changes it has made in evolution since the Gen 2. Mainly, I look at the Gen 4 and 5 comparison, but we will touch on aspects of the gen 3 and 2. Enjoy!
Sorry for the weird jumpiness at the beginning... I had plugged our online site and due to recent RU-vid policy, I had to edit that part out, which you just hear the tail end of. It looks like botched editing but its the best I could do without deleting the video and re-uploading it. Thanks for watching!
The nDLC is a Nitride treatment and then a Diamond Like Coating (DLC) over the nitride, which makes for a very durable finish. Nitride goes on Clear. Tenifer, Melonite, is simply a Nitride treatment that's trademarked due to proprietary blend. Also, Nitride is usually QPQ which is a Quench, Polish and then Quench again to provide that super slick feel to it. Nitride actually bonds at a molecular level with the substrate (outer most layer) of the metal. Nitride is not a coating or plating per se. It's a metal treatment that fuses with the outer layer of the metal...creating a very strong hard case equaling about 68-72 RHc...which is extremely hard. Both DLC and Nitride have been around for quite some time. However both are relatively new to being used in the firearms industry. Most companies who use Nitride (infusion of Nitrogen and Carbon) will Black Oxide over the Nitride due to the treatment goes on clear. Hope this helps some of you out.
David & Elizabeth..I hate my gen3 19 i changed out the extractor, ejector and recoil spring and still get BTF with erratic ejection..my gen4 in my opinion is much better.
Is the Gen 3, more reliable or more superior? My ONLY concern with the Gen 3 is the grip and lack of texture that the Gen 4s have. I refuse to use talon grips. I’ll have to use as is or with a Hogue grip. I’m not worried about a dual recoil spring for a 9mm. I’ve never heard of ejection issues with a Gen 3.

@@rokaine7334 the 40 caliber Glocks have an increased likelihood of jamming if you mount a flashlight on the Generation 3 also there are issues with the ejector many times on even the 9 mmm. Also extraction is terrible because it'll fling brass towards your head even if you don't limp wrist sometimes. They're also not as accurate as generation 5 Barrel.
Awesome review right to the main points that people need to know! I already have a Glock 17 Gen 4 but was looking for a 19 and I've done all my research with features and what I would get for my money and decided to go with the 19 gen 3!

@@jaytay7989 Just my opinion, I'm not comfortable with the grip on most current Poly grip Guns. When this is the case I'll wrestle on a Houge grip an be careful the rubberized grip does not catch my clothing during a draw, which is almost never an issue. I always depend on a firm, tight grip and never want a slippery Gun. Glad you brought up the issue.
Great video! Very well-delivered narration, you held my interest all the way through. I love my Glock 19 gen 4 - I see that there's a ton of love for the gen 3 though. I've never owned a gen 3 so I can't comment.
First I must say I you are an amazing speaker and kept my interest throughout this entire video. Thank you for your excellent comparison and explanation of the Glock generations. My comments are regarding the number of pins on Glocks. Let me add now that I am a Glock Armorer. Many years ago Glock made it known that the single block pin models in calibers higher than the 9mm, we're experiencing "stress difficulties " while there were little or no problems in 9mm. With that I believe they decided to add the 2nd block pin. So here now it is my belief that you won't be seeing the generation 5 in any other calibers than 9mm. I haven't read other commentary here yet because I didn't want to lose my thoughts. So forgive me if another has already explained the reasoning. Maybe it would be safer to say no other model gen 5 than 17 or 19 at this time. This is my best guess at Glocks tactics. Thanks for your time.
Yes Mike, that is what I am seeing as well. As an armorer myself, I can't tell you how many Glocks I have had to repair for locking block rebound impact issues. It causes the top of the block to be peened over by the bottom of the slide, and eventually causes malfunctions. All of this is caused and directly related to the lightweight frame itself, and the inability of the human wrist to completely control the muzzle flip, no matter how big or strong you think you are. It's pure physics. You would think all those brilliant engineers at Glock that copied the Keltec design and named it Glock, would have sense enough to see this. If the Glock were made with a metal frame, it would be a nice weapon. I have fun getting a rise out of all the Glock fans at the range when they show me their pistols. I say, "Nice Keltec you have there." ...It sends them off into fits. Ha ha.

Great comparison You forgot to mention: A. Half moon cutout at the bottom of the front strap B. Redesigned striker drop safety plunger redesign C. Fire control group redesign (similar to that of the glock 43)
Thanks for the feedback and for watching! Yep - thanks for pointing those out! Also, I forgot to mention in the video that they changed the design of the striker face to make it more robust... They definitely did alot more in the change from gen 4 to 5, than they did in the change from gen 3 to 4
They guy at my gun shop said glocks are the AK of the hand gun world I’m looking at my first Glock ever! 19 gen 4. But damn it they have a S&W 39-2 my favorite auto gun so I but it on layaway I probably don’t need 3 of them but damn it I love that gun. I’m just enjoying the all the great options we still have and hopefully will always have! Great video sir
Being a gun newb, I own a Glock 22 and it was given to me. Now I know it's Gen 3 and after reading the comments I know Im in good hands. Long live the Gen 3!!!
Hi Chris, I hand a gen-5 Glock 17 in hand yesterday and the first thing I noticed was that it felt light, did you notice the same thing? I'm a Gen-3 fan and have never had even the slightest urge to upgrade, so now the Gen-5 hits and it's truly amby and I felt that twinge hit me, my wife is left handed. I did read that the chamber is now fully supported on the Gen-5 so bring on the +P+. Nice video and keep them rolling, you do a nice job.
Hey thanks for the comment and the feedback as always! I do not thing that there is a weight difference - at least I did not feel a weight difference in the hand. Per Glock's webpage, they rate in at the same weight. I do need to buy a scale, which is something I have been meaning to do for a while. I am also a fan of the Gen 3 - although the ambi controls are a huge plus in my book. Weather you are left or right handed, it is good to have ambi controls because you never know when you might have to switch hands in a defensive scenario.
Thanks for the video, I was looking for this. Also is the mag release the same size between the gen 4 and 5? The two pin system was originally meant for 9mm. They shifted to a three pin system to better handle the stress of .40 and .45. The M series FBI pistols which were the precursor to the gen 5 were built for solely for 9mm. The 19 MHS submission was for 9mm and .40 and they only used a two pin system so maybe they felt it wasn't necessary on their newer designs. As we all know everything we read on the internet is always true.
Nice demo. I’m all In for my new Gen 5. I got plus 2 mags which functions best for my hand size. The slide finish and no finger groove plus other updates are worthwhile improvements over my gen 4, in my opinion. Glockenspiel y all.
Nice vid, well done. One correction though. Use of lead bullets does not decrease barrel life, it increases it......If you don't mind cleaning out the lead build up on the new rifling style. You should be cleaning your firearms after every use anyway.
I found in my rental range day, that in 9mm I found no feeling of more recoil with the gen 4 or 5. Basically I feel like there is more creature comforts added which are nice but for someone who wanted a basic gun with some added night sights the gen 3 was better for me. It was cheaper, I added the medium backstrap on newer gens any how, and if I ever decide I want to change anything, there are tons more options for gen 3 guns at this point. All three however are very good!
Good video I'm actually moving over to glock 19 and 17 to train with and calling it done was looking at the gen3 and gen4 can't decide I don't care about extra features I just want the best one what would you recommend and why gen 3 or gen 4 in the 19 and 17 Thanks
Can you put the Gen 4 spring in the Gen 3? At the 10 minute mark you said that you can put the Gen 5 spring in the Gen 4 but can you also switch it out with the Gen 3?
..btw ...before I was educated with the differences in the Gens ...I simply asked the guy working the counter , who btw is the best salesman I've encountered... knowledgeable , no salesman babble or high pressure talk ....handed me the Gen 3 .... cheers
So I live in California so I don’t get a choice. Regardless, I would choose gen 3, gotta love them finger grooves and the single recoil spring. Idk, it’s classic. Gotta love it.
@@echo2-128 Not for me. The grooves fit my hand perfect. Regardless, with grooves you have a better grip on the pistol. The reason for the grooves in the first place.
Superbly explained comparisons between all the glock generations I love glocks, sometimes I wish I lived in America reminds me of the good old days when handguns were legal here in uk had to hand all my guns in gutted still am🤢
The new barrel will give you better accuracy than the previous generations. Sounds like new golf equipment, shoot straighter and further than before with this new club just like your previous club claimed!
I shot today with a G17 Gen 5 and a G19 Gen 3, disregarding the length of the stock, I felt that the grip of the Gen 5 is a little smaller than the Gen 3, is that correct?
Yes, the GEN5 uses the same holster as the Gen5... lol, I think you may have meant to specify a different Gen glock, and unless you update that we can not answer your question.
I wouldn't exactly call your site "cheap guns" more like "Fair Priced"......Ill keep you guys in mind for when I do my shopping. Any ETA on the M*P 2.0 9compact?
Generation 5 to me and alot of others is the best. It's the best looking and it has the match grade barrel, plus flared magwell. I believe it's gonna be the most reliable as well now they only improve and to me get better
I'm currenty in the market for a G19. Thanks for this info. I tried a gen 4 and so, since I do not like the stippling on the gen 4 and 5, I'm going to need to find a gen 3. Are there any other options, since I don't like the needle feel of the gen 4/5? Thanks.

@@jaytay7989 I do like the Hogue grips. I wound up buying a used G22 that I like. The glock grip is just on the edge of being too big/brick feeling for me, but the gun is solid. Shoots well. Almost as tight a group as my p320. I don't know about reliability or superior of the g19 or g22. I just know, for me, the gen 4/5 grips are like trying to grip a porcupine. I do really well with the gen 3 grips. If I could find an aftermarket grip for my g22 that was slightly smaller in the grip, I'd be one happy customer! Thanks!

The first Glock 26s had a single guide rod = Gen 2.5, Also the 2nd locking block pin was for 40 S&W/357 SIG, So far the 5th gens are 9mm only = G17/G19,Finger grooves suck.. The larger magazine release is also fugly.. waiting for the Gen6
Great video kris, answered a lot of questions but I do have one question I'm unsure of, maybe you or some viewers can also help. I have an opportunity to get a GEN 3 In excellent condition almost looks new. My question is should I hold out for a GEN 4 or a GEN 5?

I’m going to buy a glock my dealer has a gen 3 for 499 is that a good deal or should I buy the gen 5 wich one is better and will preform better see should I want till the come out with a new one? Like I’m confused 499 is cheap and I have that in cash and want to buy it but i don’t want to buy it and find out the game out with a better one are the gen 5 was way worth it
The New guide rod spring are different from each other between the gen 5 and gen 4. he Gen 5 is a tad longer and has a different weight spring. Not backward compatible either. The trigger is improved at many points a total redesign. Check it out in detail you will discover a total new trigger.
At this point, I would buy gen3 or gen 4 and leave the five alone until it gets more time under its belt. I do think 2 pins are better then 1. I guess time will tell
I ended up getting a g19 gen 4 about a week before the gen 5 was announced. Someone make me feel better about how the gen 5 is just a gen 4 without finger grooves. I’d hate to hear that some huge amazing improvement developed a week after i bought the “defunct” version lol.
I think the difference generations of Glock are like the different generations of iPhones - they’re all basically the same with really heavy marketing to get people to buy more!
5:48... When those sights are off it sure is noticeable. I don't know anybody that leaves these plastic sights on. Everybody seems to change these first.
You know how to get a lighter trigger pull?......How about going out and firing hundreds upon hundreds of rounds through it? I guarantee the stock trigger on my gen 4 is smoother than the 5 right out of the box, just from shooting it.
I measured barrel walls and it’s definitely thicker on gen 5 than gen 4. I assume it’s should hold higher pressures and hotter rounds and less prone to kabooms.

Nice video. One correction though, the use of lead bullets will not decrease your barrel life, in any gun, as opposed to full metal jacket or copper. Well done, thx.
One more comment... the gen3 magazine release was very positive and easy to use. In Gen4, they make a big paddle of a release button. If you do not hit that button in the right place it does not work... so effectively it is much worse than the smaller gen3 button.
