@@teyoskky5895 very smart on her time since she was the first contestant that actually uses common sense instead of just plain smart.. even when they were presented with a breathe taking question that could literally put pressure on most contestants, she handled it like a queen ready to conquer the crown, not a dimwitted princess with a pretty face.
When everyone's expecting her to give a political answer, she answered it frankly and earned the crown. There really is no formula for winning the crown, just be yourself.
I guess you're right, there is no formula. Simply the judges are always on look-out for something refreshing in every Ms. Universe event. It so happened Ms.Diaz was different in every aspect.

Actually, that kind of walk that Gloria Diaz did was considered the noble and decent walk for women. I remember my sister in the early 90s, she was taking business secretarial course, and one of the teainings is to walk with a book or two above her head and the book must stay on her head as she walks. But of course times change and the millenials of today would never understand that their so-called hover board walk used to be the toughest walk in modeling and considered the walk of the nobles and royals.

The fact that they still had to describe the hair color and eye color is strategic to make people watching on tv appreciate it more just by imagining it

everyone talks about how her mouth being open most of the time. I really don't think there's a problem with this. I've been told in the 60's that most contestants competing for the Miss universe were encouraged to smile BIG! as in like showing their teeth. If you noticed, she has a small mouth but with a rather unique facial bone structure - less prominent chin and jawline. I've seen other winner in the early 60's and they were all smiling like her. She was petite back then but her big smile was catchy ---in a good way. The way she responded to the question was very "American" along also with her intonation. She was graceful and you couldn't feel any pressure at all watching her. About the "fast walking" I believe it's not them. In case you haven't noticed, old films, videos etc. had that speed problem. It had something to do with the motion mechanism used to run early cameras. The tools back there were insufficient to catch the natural movement of a person. Please do your research first before you make any stupid criticism.
Gloria Diaz family spoke Spanish and English as well at home, but Spanish in her tonque most of the time because her parents has Spanish roots. Before she entering in a movie stardom she studied local language, the Tagalog. She was born and raised in Philippines but she cannot able speak local language. So far, she speak perfect in Tagalog.
I thought there were much more things to criticize abt her rather than her smile. Like her win was really controversial but her smile was barely one of the reasons

You really don't have to be profound in English like answering questions in a good sentence pointing out strong opinions and being solid all the time. Sometimes even if you are a great person, you need to be hospitable for someone who is tired doing researches out there in the moon. So it means that her answer is very realistic and natural :) How bout you? After years of practice then research and travel. Would you not at least eat, rest and get changed (clothes) before being interviewed and work right away?
Her answer is very realistic and natural. If I were from the moon for so long, the best thing I need is to have a sleep. But her answer is very convincing to think yeah I also need to have a change first, then to take a bath and to sleep. Judges back then were so witty.
She is so simple and honest. She always like smiling ear to ear. She is definitely Pilipino because of having Great Personality, and that's how and why Philippines is Great and Unique🥀
