So sad at the disrespect in some comments. If not for her and the diverse group of women and men, women would not be able to rent an apartment, open a checking account, buy a home or have pay for equal work, or enter certain collages or the military. She's no joke and worthy of respect. Women's rights IS HUMAN RIGHTS. On and on.

Thank you, Gloria, for giving me the keen insight of my life as a woman, yet growing up in a rural area of Nebraska-we were all expected to marry farmers! I met you in a small dorm-lounge during my freshman ‘71 year of college and you turned my life on its tail! Fist definition on the term “double standard” which I had been experiencing many years on the farm. Your visit was a part of a symposium with Betty F & Bella I believe…we all survived. Thank you x 1,000 for changing my life! I’ve gone on to be very successful and educated, two kids, ex-husband. Maybe a few regrets but not many.

Thank you Gloria for your lifelong pursuit of the rights of people. I love you for that! I chose my lifelong dream of being a stay at home of mother raising my two sons. My grand children are young but I have email addresses and so I sent them the link to this video. I want my grands to be strong and aware humans and citizens who think for themselves and be fierce to protect the human rights of people.

I, too, decided to be a stay at home mom. I was educated, an advanced degree… but motherhood called out to me loudly. I don’t regret my choice although my children don’t respect me for my choices. So the feminist I am, somehow got crushed because of misogyny. Not feeling sorry for myself, just makes me sad.

I have admired Ms. Steinam for many decades. In the late 80’s a friend of mine became pregnant and decided to receive a legal abortion at Planned Parenthood. Her boyfriend told her that he couldn’t take her so it devolved to myself, a young gay man who’s never slept with a woman in my life. I’m happy to say things went well and my friend has made a total recovery. She has moved on from her boyfriend which is a really great idea.
@slowpainful
@slowpainful 9 месяцев назад
Speaking as an old (68) gay man, you did such a good thing. And you verify my firm belief that gay men in some ways cherish and understand women, and know how to be with women, far far better and more compassionately than do so-called "straight" men. I can't count the number of times I've had to explain to str8 male friends that their partners found their behavior borderline abusive, when the men had no idea that this was so. We've just got to figure out how to raise better heterosexual men (well, of course, that's partly a selfish desire, because otherwise how will we beget more amazing 2SLGBTQ+ humans?)

I'm totally with you on this assessment. The female interviewer was much more organic and fluid with her questions, I felt; the guy was just embarrassing, almost tongue-tied. Gloria was in both cases so gracious and accommodating, she never seemed to give the attitude of "what a stupid question", even when they were. There is such toughness and character underneath that gracious exterior. Her comment that marriage was the last decision a woman got to make, and that that made it like death, gave me chills. Men do not ever fully understand what greatness we have snuffed out by our oppression of women. Her mother's story brought me to tears, that a talented and trail-blazing journalist was brought to mental and spiritual breakdown through hopelessness. How is GS not paralyzed with bitterness? I am so grateful for the opportunity to have watched this interview.

CIA ties and leader of Independent Research Service In 1967, Steinem revealed in an interview with The New York Times that she worked full time from 1958 until 1962 at the Independent Research Service, which was largely financed by the CIA.[111] In May 1975, Redstockings, a radical feminist group, published a report that Steinem and others put together on the Vienna Youth Festival and its attendees for the Independent Research Service.[112][113] Redstockings raised the question of whether Steinem had continuing ties with the CIA, which Steinem denied.[114] Steinem defended her relationship to the CIA, saying: "In my experience The Agency was completely different from its image; it was liberal, nonviolent and honorable."[65]

Ask her why she's not standing for women having to compete against transsexual men in sports. I'd think that would be bigger when she told us to burn our bras. I find it strange she's not vocal on this insanity for the women movement, how they seem to be exterminating women. Did she know this? Please ask as inquiring minds question these things.
@urhurd
@urhurd 9 месяцев назад
Do you actually know anyone dealing with competing against a trans woman? Because the outrage about it being a possibility is ridiculous.
@slowpainful
@slowpainful 9 месяцев назад
I feel that this so-called "outrage" is a manufactured one, and is really just a moral panic perpetrated on the public discourse by so-called "conservatives", specifically white male heterosexual conservatives, because, once again, their heads explode at the idea that anyone not exactly like them should have any measure of dignity or equality. The whole "trans women competing in sports" kerfuffle is on the same level as the urban myths that children are being taught how to use sex toys, or are using cat litter boxes in the school washrooms. It's hogwash meant to stir up hatred against a very small, vulnerable group of humans who we should be cherishing and protecting and learning about *by listening to their stories and believing what they report as their feelings and experiences.* Instead, we just get hysterical and shout over them. We are regressing to caveman levels of empathy. I hope we can do better. Much, much better. How about you go ask some transexual individuals what their reality is like, rather than making assumptions and shooting your mouth off as though you actually know anything at all about them? I say all of this, of course, with love.
@stregalilith

She never told anyone to burn their bras, no bras were burned in the production of the Women's Movement. You are sadly informed and are either very young or not very deep.
@xxxdrcarlxxx
@xxxdrcarlxxx 3 месяца назад
The quote "burn your bras" is often correctly associated with Gloria Steinem, but she didn't actually say those exact words. It's what she stood for. Lunge BS, I mean GS, the phrase became emblematic of the feminist movement during the 1960s and 1970s, and Steinem was the prominent figure in that movement. She advocated for women's rights, including issues like equal pay and reproductive rights, but the specific phrase "burn your bras" is more of a symbol of the broader movement rather than something she explicitly said. Funny how unfeminine the feminist movement was/is.

@slowpainful
@slowpainful 9 месяцев назад
Everyone has had the same rights for as long as humans existed, though it's only in the past three centuries that we developed enough brain cells to understand this. The problem is, rights are a two-way thing: someone has them, and then someone has to recognize them. It's the second part that is woefully unfulfilled. I will add: such a typical American attitude, that all human rights hinge on the Emancipation Proclamation during the US civil war, which in one stroke solved all problems of racism and inequality. The rest of us in the non-US just don't know how we would have coped without your shining example. Unbelievable.
