It's quite in line with Scripture! Look up 1 Corinthians 23-33 The key verse is "So, whether you eat or drink, or uwhatever you do, do all to the glory of God." He lists his failings and sorrows over them, and then remembers what St. Paul said about glorifying God in whatever circumstances we may find ourselves.
V1 = leaving family & home in hate. The verse details are not things he's proud of... It's also never best to take narrative song (not a "worship" form) as theology. They express a feeling of a certain moment/season, not a truth (regardless of feeling) which is eternal. Also, not all songs sung in first person are auto-biographical (or writers might run dry). A later verses speaks of giving thanks via music. Sounds like it's about starting back toward God even from a far distance.
