I serviced hundreds of piston and jet powered aircraft when I was a USAF fueler back in the '70s. Not one of them looked like it just rolled off the assembly line. I've also done some modeling in my time but none of it would compare with what this young man does. It all depends on the desire for realism.
@@npc6817 In this case, it's completely appropriate for the model to look immaculate; the 1930s RAF took great pride in the condition of it's biplane fighters which were always maintained in near factory fresh finish.
Dear Sir Doesn't matter how many times I watch this video I am mesmerised by the way the appearant sheer simplicity of the build masks such a high level of skill and ability. I have very fond memories of this kit in its original form, it came in a plastic bag. I built this in 1965 or 1966, and was one of my first plastic kits. It's good to see it again, and built so well.
Hi!! What surface do you tint with oil? Glossy or matt or semi-matte? Could you make a separate guide to aviation toning (including modern)? Its so missing on youtube ... good luck with other, your models is wery well!
I bought a four pack of 1/72 Airfix aircraft (A6M2b, Curtiss Hawk H-81A-2, Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a, and Bf109E-3)(four different dioramas with 1/350 & 1/200 B25’s, being attacked or escorted). I had initially bought & intended to use PE interiors, but then I realized that with the canopy closed & pilot seated, you’ll never see the cockpit detail through the crappy, wavy “glass”. Then I finally decided, since I’m shooting for a gold medal in dioramas, I started to go to town on the Zero. So, I’m sanding and polishing the canopies so you can actually see inside and I’m going to go ahead and execute an exercise in futility. I’m detailing the crap out of the cockpits (since the canopies are going to be crystal clear), removing and positioning the control surfaces, painting the insignia & markings, blurring the props, and chipping & weathering them all. Also the Zero will probably be just starting to explode in mid-air and the 109 will will have battle damage & smoking. Both are being shot at by B25’s hiding between the cloud layers. Anyway, at 1/72 I don’t blame you for just doing the bare minimum in the cockpit. I just hope I don’t regret putting in the effort to only just catch a minuscule glimpse of the interior. But hay, if I’m going to ask $400-$600 for the dioramas after the, hopefully gold medal, model show appearance/win, I need to pour my heart and soul into it. As expected, you produced yet another great build. And that’s a pretty cool trick with the soldering iron to tighten up the “cables”. I’ll have to remember that one when I get around to building the WWI dogfight diorama that I’d like to do some day. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips. 👍👍
The only person I've seen confident enough to mask and cut the canopy frames after putting the upper wing on. I hated doing that small canopy without it on.
I made this model as a kid (before you were born!) and it looked like a kid had made it too! I don't even build model aircraft any more but always look forward to your videos. Superb work as always.

The gloster gladiator with those markings is currently on display at the shuttleworth collection in Bedfordshire in the uk its a great museum housing some of the rarest and most interesting aircraft in the world 5 stars from me

I like that you said you don't reckommend this model for beginners. Many people will judge difficulty based on the complexity of the kit or the instructions, but some basic things like two wings can also add to the difficulty. I have been doing modelling for over 10 years (Might not sound much, but I'm 19) and I still haven't found a non painful way to do the two wings without messing up
One thing that would have really added to the overall looks of the airplane..... would have been if you took your airbrush and made exhaust streaks on the bottom side of the bottom wing from the engines exhaust pipes, just like it would be on the real plane. That would have brought it all together. You spent so much time on the wash, that one little touch would have just been beautiful.
Amazing job and superb finish, specially on the rigging process. I'm surprised I didn't see any coat of sealer after painting or before washes. How you did it without damaging the paint job? Wow 👍
Very nice! I just finished building the Mk.II boxing of this in the Finnish colours. I haven't' seen that method for the wing ribs before, it looks great!
PERFECT 🔝I heard about the talk in the comments about weathering😖🙄👉🏼I never ever did some kind of weathering on my modells,and if somebody says》Oh you did not weathering.....I said well thats a ace king and its new😀 When you go to a museum and you look at big modells,there ain't no weathering. It all make sense to me you if make a diaorama(Damm it i forgot the name😂) However nice modell,i play on my mind to build that Swordfish too.But i got the big version on my mind from Trumpeter(The Tamija version seems to be out of the programm) However.Have a nice day🍀

how do you get super glue to work that good? I see people making videos doing rigging on painted surfaces and they just touch the rigging wire and boom! it holds! yeah that does not work like that for me.
Very nice i baught 2 172 planes for my first time a few weeks back i built the plane but alot mistakes and half painted it been 3 coulor, s it was a bit fidgety for me for now i abandoned it anyway ive another one there and ill have a go at thats a airfix all red bomber type kit so with less colors maybe ill finish that but nice work on this my freind 👍👌
Nice job but the exhaust ring at the front of the cowl is the wrong color. The exhaust ring is a brownish red color with the most forward leading edge being aluminum and part of the cowl...salute!
