I’m outside the junkyard ready to go in and get a new glovebox. Then I thought I might just get the latch piece. But thank you. You saved time and money from me. I was like “this is not gonna work.😂
Mine was doing same thing, so tried your method. Not quite...so I looked at the U and the plastic seemed to be pulling off on one side. So, I slide it back to the front, and it latched! Thanks so so much for the up close on the door latch and the U. I thought it would be SO much more complicated than it was! Excited not to be driving around with it taped up (which, in Florida because of the heat, ooooozes off every few days!). Appreciate your effort!
I think this might work for some people. I caution as it relates to my attempt after watching this video. I have an 1999 Acura CL with wood grain dashboard trim that is old and brittle. I tried the technique suggested in the video and heard some cracking - not a good sound. I looked under and the globe box and the metal hook the glove box lock attaches to is connected to a metal brace bar that is bolted to something that is connected to the brittle wood grain dash panel. I stopped. Upon further inspection I realized the metal bracket where the bottom of the globe box attaches to is bent. That metal was thin and malleable. I kept tweaking by grabbing the whole glove box. My glove box now closes like it must have 20 years ago. I did not need to purchase a new glove box lock and had I cracked the wood grain panel I would have used JB weld and had an ugly pseudo weld that would detract the eventual sale of the vehicle. I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone out.
I tried everything to get my glove box to close/open like it did when I first got my CR-V.....WD-40, nothing axel grease, nothing....then I bought a new lock.....I know this would take care of the problem ....NOTHING is still the same...then I saw your video and Wala!....that did it.....Soooooooooooo THANKS LOTS.....ps. I took that 15.00 dollar lock back to Honda.
Thank you for the awesome help and even sweeter vid! 1am slam sessions in a neighborhood that is quite in the late afternoon. Don't let the melanin fool ya; I live in a "we care" neighborhood. Bonus: I can reconnect the light. X-mas + bday = righteous
