Just a FYI to all viewers. If you have Netflix (and I assume you have if you've seen GLOW) then check out the other GLOW title if you do a search for it. Its actually a documentary from 2012 where the creators sit down for a 1-1 with the majority of the girls, look back on the time and finishes with a big reunion and a "Where are they now/what happened after GLOW" recap. Its pretty good and worth a watch if you want to get the true story

Fucking loved it. Main character is hard to like in the beginning, but grew to like her. They treat wrestling with respect. I think Manchu Pichu used the terms "heel" and "face" one. She would be the only one who knows what thoses terms mean. I liked how it turned into a save the show story. Which, considering the show, I'm all for.

Fate Theory There were 4 compilation DVDs released years ago of footage of various feds and the Lois Theroux wrestling episode of his documentary series is pretty good following a garbage fed. But really, backyard wrestling is full of pretty talentless, common Joes doing stuff that's way beyond their training.

Hyde Hill I made a point to watch it first before I started the new series. It gave a good foundation of knowledge to go into the new show with. However, it really makes you realize that the netflix show is very loosely based on the original concept, and not a very specific retelling at all.

it's two of my favorite things: Alison Brie and Wrestling. I was sold just from that. But they really did a great job setting up the main characters while keeping it interesting. They also didnt make the wrestling portion dumbed down like any other show would try to do. There was a bit of a rough patch near the beginning, but after the fifth episode, it really turns into something great. I've watched this three times through and i really do enjoy it.

I have noticed that a lot of people don't seem to like Ruth, but I do. She is struggling and talented actress that can't really get anywhere because of her gender and that she isn't "hot". She manages to catch a break just as she makes a dumb descion to have sex again with married man, mostly because it seems like she was feeling pretty shitty about herself. Turns out that said married man is married to her best friend. I do think she should have said something, but it's understandable why she didn't. Heck, maybe she would have later, but she never gets the opportunity. I actually empathize with her, despite her being a flawed Character. Also, I tend to be more forgiving towards female characters than male ones. That's just me though
@Gootothesecond
@Gootothesecond 7 лет назад
She definitely is "Hollywood Ugly" because I would've fucked the shit out of Ruth. I liked her story the best out of all of them except for, maybe the director. I think they got the most character development.

I loved it...for the most part. It suffers from the same problem that OITNB did, in that there are a load of interesting characters that aren't focused on. Would've loved more focus on Welfare Queen, or Sheila the She-Wolf, or even Beirut and Fortune Cookie. Mel-Rose came in strong, but seemed to get lost in the shuffle as the season progressed, which I felt was a little disappointing. Buuuuuuuut suppose with only 30 minutes to an episode they couldn't really do the flashbacks with different characters that OITNB does so well without taking away from the main story. Personally thought Ruth's development was handled brilliantly, what I did see of the others I loved, and the 80's soundtrack was absolutely amazing. Hope they can do hour long episodes for next season, but I may be in the minority on that.

@WrestlingWithWregret
@WrestlingWithWregret 7 лет назад
I agree that there were lots of characters that weren't focused on, but like you said, they could only do so much with 10 30-minute episodes. If it gets picked up for a second season, I would imagine we could see more side-plots with those lesser-used characters like the Biddies, Fortune Cookie, etc.
@pat_in_foco
@pat_in_foco 7 лет назад
See the only problem with focusing too much on the other characters background and stories then the reaction will be "oh it's OITNB but with wrestling" I think it did a good enough job with other plot lines. Big help will be if season 2 gets 13 episodes instead of 10 allows for more story development.

I loved Netflix's GLOW, I watched the documentary again after the show and you can tell they pulled a lot from that. Just gone done watching it...Being both a 31 yr old school fan and ALSO a fan or the original GLOW it, eh ok. I really thought Ruth and Debbie would turn out to be The Cheerleaders...On two factors, during training Ruth smacked her elbow hard into ring "ow!" which was referencing original GLOW's most infamous moment "Susie Spirit's dislocated elbow". Plus if you look at photos of Susie and Debbie Debutante. Ruth and Debbie (before their eventual Russian/American cold war gimmick) they look like the original "Cheerleaders". Ruth turned out to be a great Colonel Ninotchka copy. In episode 10 when the girls practically had to take charge putting show together at the ballroom, it reminded much of how ECW's Tommy Dreamer said wrestlers themselves did everything to put a show together.

I really hope they get a season 2 cause I think there's still a lot to be told there so fingers crossed.

I just finished watching the show and i have to say... I absolutely loved it. It has now taken it's place as my favorite 'Wrestling' media (movie/tv/documentary). I know that is saying a lot, but in my opinion, it's THAT good. It's smartly written, fun, dramatic, and the acting s top notch. Marc Maron gives an amazing performance, as does Allison Brie. The biggest surprise for me was Kia Stevens aka Kharma aka Awesome Kong. I kept thinking "I know her. Where do I know her from?" and then I realized who it was and I was blown away. All in all i would recommend this show to wrestling and non-wrestling fans alike. No need to get political , as some have. Just sit back and enjoy it. Anyone who has a problem with this or even anyone touting it for it's "politics" needs to relax and get their head out of their ass. I don't even want to dignify either "side" by addressing that asinine horseshit. Leave all of that baggage at the door and give this show a shot. I think it's some of the best television produced in the last handful of years. That is high praise considering what has been "on the air" in this new "golden age of television"
@StephenPike
@StephenPike 7 лет назад
To add: Ruth is a complicated character. I like the juxtaposition of audience "expectations" of the protagonist as a lead in a TV show (i.e. what we expect our protagonists to do and what their characters are in a TV show) with what is presented, as well as her as a "wrestler" within the context of the show itself. As one can see, it's the subversion of expectation that makes her interesting and the show stand out In the simplest terms possible she is a tweener. She's not a face, nor is she a heel. She is written like a REAL human being. She has her positives and negatives, and fucks up... just like we all do. I think it's insanely refreshing to watch a character as flawed and nuanced as Ruth. Personally, i LIKE her and her character. There is no "easy" solution to her issues. Nothing got "wrapped up" nor easily explained to the audience. She is a human character presented - as is - to the audience and we are along for her journey good or bad. If you want simple characters with phony motivations and storylines wrapped up in a few episodes go watch a crappy sitcom. This is NOT that. That is NOT how life works. Ruth, to me, is one of the most "real" characters I've seen on television and I look forward to another season of this show. They creators and writers aren't trying to make this "easy" on the audience nor hold our hand. They don't promise easy answers or unreal wrap-ups to complicated stories. I can't imagine where this story will take these characters, but I will definitely be along for the ride.

Allison Brie is the best. I've had a huuuge crush on her since community and she doesn't disappoint here. But my favorite moment of season 1 was where it clicked for Debbie and she was like THIS IS A SOAP OPERA!!! But the one part that took me out of the show was the random abortion scene. It felt unnecessary and random. But I had no idea that Awesome Kong/Kharma was the welfare queen, she looked so different. And I was really trying to figure out who the other brother was but I wouldn't have guessed carlito. But overall a great show I can recommend to non wrestling fans to enjoy.

I've just finished watching this. It's a great insight into how females can be empowered by being downtrodden with career and life choices. Chavo Guerrero Jr. trained the actresses too I think. I love the addition of real life wrestlers in it. Being female I'm proud of this production and thanks to Netflix for bringing this to a wider audience. I feel that if it was on NBC, CW or the like it wouldn't get the proper viewership figures. The people who really want to watch it are watching it. With episodes being approximately half an hour long it makes it easier to binge watch it too.

Those robots were real, although they never caught on. In the mid 80s Robots were going to be the next big thing, which is why Stallone was able to fund 'Rocky IV' by having a huge robot product placement. The exact type of robot from the show was on Pawn Stars. They offered $10

Is that why that stupid robot was there?! It's the only Rocky film I ever fancied watching but I turned it off after he turned up.

Yep Sly a bunch of cash to put it in the film, and then the company who made the things went bust before the film came out.

One of my favorite parts about this show (which there were many) was how great of an actor Awesome Kong is. You usually see her on television playing this unstoppable bad ass running through people, but she NAILED IT on this show and deserved all the camera time she got - showing Hollywood once again that wrestlers can act. I also felt that GLOW treated wrestling with a lot more respect than other shows or movies about the subject - which was great. I hope GLOW gets picked up for more seasons. It would be GREAT to see Ivory guest star lol

Where is Netflix's show on Wrestlelicious? They did so much for women

I liked the show. For one, it has good, relateable characters both male and female -- unlike OITNB which has female cartoon characters and nothing but evil and incompetent male characters. They *did* kinda erase the Mando Guerrero character from the get-go, I guess so the women can train themselves and keep with the theme of female empowerment, but it's not supposed to be a historically accurate telling of the story of the actual promotion so I don't really have a problem with it.

If you have Netflix, there is a great documentary on there from 2012 that is a 1-1 interview with the majority of the girls and a look back on the show, it finishes with a reunion and the final couple of minutes has a "what happened after glow" review for each one. its actually really good and worth a watch

This show is brilliant. I'm surprised on how much they did dip into the history of the actual organization. I'm really happy that they did get actual wrestlers in the show. I hoped to see Chavo portray Mondo and maybe have an appearance from a few original GLOW alums - especially Lisa Moretti who was Tina Ferrari then Ivory in the WWF/E. There's no doubt they should have season two and maybe expand the cast by one or two ladies. Just remember to keep an eye on The Housewives and hopefully they make to their more hardcore destinies.
