Finehous rubber floor matts require bonding & are not nail down. The goal with bonding was to get an adhesive that is also a sealer to prevent floor rot from water seeping between the adhesive. This brought me the Xcel for bonding, called the company to confirm the product was safe to use long term with rubber and would not shrink over time.

Great job! I wonder if the adhesive can just be put on the stairs first (one at a time of course, starting from the top) and use a plastic putty knife to evenly spread it where you need it... then (carefully) lay the rubber treads on sticky surface. Less chance of air pockets this way, I think. I'm probably going to be doing this soon. I'm building a 40ft wooden walkway through my courtyard to my porch. New stairs, etc. I have the walkway almost done, waiting on stringers (I just ordered some powder-coated metal ones) so I can add stairs, stain, and then get to do this.

Thank you, Sounds like you have a better idea than how I did this with even spread avoiding air pockets 👍

Just what I was looking for, I'm going to try it. Thank you

This is video is 3 years old now. I'm wondering how it has held up in the past three years. I had used two-sided tape for mine about two years ago, and it worked until we had a heat wave here in Southern California this summer. Multiple days of almost-100 heat caused the adhesive on the tape melted and my mats slipped off. So I'm looking for an alternative. I'm thinking of just screwing the mats down to the stairs. But perhaps I will give this a try first.

@@DavidLulu so far still holding up wel in the heat and cold. The white color however discolored to a beige, the grey appears to stay grey. Clear is another option but last I checked is more expensive. I think I made 2 videos using this adhesive.

Can't believe you stuck that on your car

Should have looked at this video. Both Loctite PL Premium failed to go with the rubber mats and so did Liquid Nails Fuze It--two construction adhesives that have NEVER failed me

The rubber Matt's are still sticking to those outside stairs. the areas where the adhesive is beyond the Mats discolored where exploded to weather and sun. No issues otherwise

@@sparkestudio Nice. Just like you, I tried contacting Finehous for recommendation, but got no response. Given what you know now, anything you might have done differently (aside, perhaps, from using the clear version)?

@@maistvanjr1 I'd of made sure to have plenty of product along the mat edges so there weren't spots that could be lifted 2 cm in some spots that I later applied more of the adhesive to those edges.

Does anyone know where I can find XCEL-UBS (MS Polymer adhesive). Live on the Oregon coast, but no hardware, building supply or marine stores carry anything like this.

@@christine8622 Amazon carries this. I should have a link in the description of this video to the one I used... Did you try google? Or going through XCEL online? XCEL general sells to businesses and restaurants directly and due to the higher than silicone type options many stores don't stock it.

How many tubes of UBS did you use?
@sparkestudio
@sparkestudio Год назад
I don't remember but I think I used 3 tubes... about a tube per 3 to 4 stairs. If I used a trowel and applied thin I could have possible made 5 treads per tube.

Are those steps wood or composite? Any issues with rotting?
@sparketech

Wood, I used the adhesive sealant rather than just adhesive to avoid rotting issues.
@sparkestudio

Since this adhesive does not shrink and is not water based it is safe for wood. An quality adhesive would have a stronger bond. I stay at the place where I did this work, the rubber mats are staying in place... This adhesive dries out in the tube fairly fast when stored BTW
