Learn all of the nit picky details that you need to learn in the glycolysis pathway for biochemistry. Questions to test your knowledge at the end with answers in the description.
Answer to Question 1: Strictly looking at stoichiometry, 2 moles of ATP are produced for every 1 mole of glycose that enters glycolysis. However, pyruvate and NADH can go on to product more ATP, so a question that's worded only slightly differently could have a higher answer. Gotta love biochem.
Answer to Question 2: The entire purpose of glycolysis is to produce energy (ATP). If the organism has excess ATP, it doesn't need to make more. Excess ATP inhibits glycolysis in step 3 to prevent glycolysis from proceeding beyond that point and to prevent more ATP from being produced.
