In this video I bring you through the process I use to replace exhaust manifolds on a Chevy 2500HD with the big 6.0. This is a pretty common job in our shop and is pretty much the same process for all GMC, Chevrolet trucks with V-8 LS engines. Broken bolts can be recessed or protruding and both are relatively easy to get out if you have the proper tools. come along as I get started on the passenger side fist. -Enjoy!

Man that is so true no matter what you're working on! Yet in on a carpentry repair job next thing you know you got bug damage or ride or something going on and then you got to start dismantling half a wall. If you're doing a bit room addition and the carpenter gets carried away he puts up crown molding outside before the siding is put up and everything else and you have to go behind them and gently pull this expensive crown molding down because the carpenter was a dumbass. Go to run electric and you're trying to pass a wire through a wall and the next thing you know the damn wire is going halfway across the room for some reason! And you're an addict you can't even kneel in let alone crawl on your hands and knees. You got hurricane anchors poking you in the ribs and arms everywhere while you're trying to get this wire to run down where it's supposed to go. Take your pick brother it will freaking drive you nuts. You go out to do something simple and 5 hours later it's still ain't done because something is just deciding to piss you off!

@@fast68chevy It isn't a penetrating oil. It's a silicone grease designed for brake caliper slide pins, rubber seals, etc. It's high temp and water proof. Napa carries it...Or at least they do here. That's where I get mine.

@@scientist100 Absolutely an expensive job if paid for at a shop. All GM manifolds, gaskets, plugs, wires. Thats prob a $1500-2k job in a shop. I am used to wrenching on my own stuff. $300-500 in parts and work until its done.

Wish I had seen this before I did mine... Ended up getting 2 new heads - sprung a couple leaks with the drill (LOL)... Worked out because I changed lifters, bump stick, knock sensors - the whole nine yards.... Those fel-pro bolts are great... 11/2 years later and they still come out no problem.... Drivers side is definitely more of a pain...

I’ve seen way too many videos that originate in Arizona, Southern California, Nevada where everyone is spoiled. You can take a vehicle apart or 3/8’s ratchet set and not break anything! It is so refreshing to see vehicles in the condition that I normally see them in. That’s broken studs and anything that wasn’t protected from the factory is now swollen with rot almost beyond recognition. That’s the real world. And to see how it’s professionally handled is a nice dose of reality! It’s videos like this that separate the men from the boys, or the girls from the women as the case may be.

You have provided me many hours of educational entertainment. It is refreshing that you are man enough to admit it when you make a mistake. I am concerned for your safety, I have noticed that most of your struck tools (punches) have mushroomed ends. Mushroomed ends tend to cast off pieces at extremely high speeds. Grinding a slight bevel on the struck end prevents the spalling of the metal. Thank you, and stay safe. GO NAVY!

The smoke wrench is one of the most overlooked tools. Whenever I’m disassembling something like this, I don’t even hesitate to break it out. Saves a lot of time and aggravation ahead of time. I’d also suggest some left handed drill bits. I have a bolt removal set, with corresponding easy-outs for each bit, but sometimes just using the drill bit, it bites into the broken end and backs them out. I usually heat them prior to drilling.
