I have an alignment shop. One time we were shaking down a front end and felt a ton of play in an outer tie rod. I put an estimate together and let the customer know what we found and how much it would be. He approved the repair so we went to work. Once we got the wheel off we found that at some point someone had failed to tighten the nut all the way, which was causing the play we felt. We simply tightened the nut and went ahead with the alignment and pleasantly surprised the customer when we were done. I couldn’t help but wonder how many shops might have gone ahead with the new tie rod without anyone knowing any different. It feels good to be an honest mechanic.

Did either of you guys hear like like a puffing sound. This is crazy mine is doing the same thing but it at the dealer. The noise is exactly the same no check engine light. I'll shi* if thst all it is a loose spark wire there so backed up I won't know for 3 weeks.. It ended up being the injectors oring had blown out on the passanger bank. They replaced them under warranty as I had new ones installed all 8, 4 months prior. Then afterwards I had a really intermittante miss. Which was way more notable since having working injectors. After more back and fourth bs with the dealer chalked it up, to the chevy miss as they say. I decided to pull two plugs for inspection. All 8 were trashed, new delco plugs and nappa wires that's all I could find. I've got to say in all my years of doing plugs and wires these were the worst I'd ever seen. But faulty injectors I imagine did not help either. It took a couple of drive cycles to clear up. The biggest thing is after the tune up it correct the irradic idle Knock on wood back to normal for now..

Very brave to grab that plug wire. I had a miss on my minivan so just started by pushing plug wires down tight onto plugs and coil. Well, I found the miss when touching one wire nearly made me p my pants. Another time, same van, another miss but didn’t see anything initially. Then I turned off the lights in the garage so it was completely dark. I sprayed the engine with a water bottle and it looked like a Christmas tree. Many cracks in a few of the plug wires. Great job Sir. Unfortunately its taken me 53 years to first check the easy stuff and not go right to thinking the worst.

That is EXACTLY what happened to my 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. That ticking noise started a few weeks before I changed my spark plugs at 100K miles. Then, when I was changing them, the front right coil wire just fell off into my hand when I pulled it from the plug. It was barely connected (if at all). I reconnected it adding some dielectric grease. Viola! no more ticking noise. That had been the problem all along. Now I check it ever once in a while because I don't know why it came loose in the first place. But it's been 3 months and no problems so far.

I work with a couple guys that have 14's and 15's. They both have over 200k on their truck. They didn't even disable AFM because they don't care about internet hysteria. They're both the kind of guy that changes their oil by 5k miles. I think changing the oil often to keep the carbon and combustion byproducts out of the engine oil makes the biggest difference in the longevity of the lifters. Short tripping is another thing that causes problems since full synthetic oils don't react well with that kind of driving habit. Deboss Garage tore down a Ford Coyote that the owner used full syn oils in and short tripped it a lot and there was a thick layer of sludge buildup inside the engine -- not good for modern engines with tiny passages that oil need to flow through like cam phaser solenoids and AFM lifters/control modules.

Not to brag , But I did noticed that right away ! You could see the wire was moving kind of freely . Thanks for the video

Yep, the moving wire drew attention to itself, after which one should readily notice the boot is sticking out more than the others.

Thank you sir. Engine tick is gone. Engine is quiet at 98k miles. It turned out to be the same plug wire making the noise.

Thank u for this. I am living out of my Yukon (EX tiny home) and mine started ticking this way in a remote location in the desert. Thought this ended my journey around North America. Again, thank you! X

I am so thankful for this video. Woke up this morning to the same problem on my 2014 Sierra except it was the second plug wire. I’d like to send you a $100 dollars for all the money you saved me. Seriously, where can I send it? Never sent a RU-vidr money but you definitely deserve it

There are honest businessman, and there are dishonest ones which category are you put yourself in is up to you and in this case you’ve made the right choice. Unfortunately there are too many bad mechanics out there making us good ones look well not so great ….having a solid belief systemin mind is something that people notice and are attracted to anyway great show… Keep on rocking
