Grandmaster analysis of two very recent games that Grandmaster, Ivan Sokolov, has played. Both games were against the very talented Dutch champion, Jorden van Foreest.
Ivan used an interesting system to destroy the Kings Indian Defence. Well worth learning from!

this video helped me defeat an opponent I lost to in an earlier round of the chess league here. I followed the principles as highlighted in the video and I OBLITERATED HIM, he didn't get a single attack on me. brilliant tutorial, brilliant.

Love this! Such a great idea to not only tie these videos in with advertising the Day Vay Days, but updating the information given in them. Thanks again, Simon; great vid!

Great video Master!! I’am an 1800 player. Been struggling against the Kings Indian 50/50 lately. Very well explained and to the spot of active players. Thank you.

Hey Simon, I was already a gingerfan, but this video trumps it all. Grabs it right by the - exactly. Before this I played the Makagonov (5. h3), with, for my level, very good results, but this looks even more fun and exciting. Thanks a lot for making these awesome video's!

@SimonPiano42
@SimonPiano42 8 лет назад
Yeah, actually this is more than a surprise opening, you're right. I just thought it would work especially well as a surprise, because many club level players have probably never seen this attacking idea before. I'll use it as much as i can :)

Thank you! I have been struggling with the king's defense and was able to beat the computer after watching your video.
@mcpartridgeboy
@mcpartridgeboy 8 лет назад
this opening doesnt work, computer says after 40 moves playing chess at 3000 fide plus black has a 0.002 advantage, meaning that your oponent only needs to play better than magnus on his best day for 40 moves before you might be able to get a 0.001 advantage before the 50 move rule comes into play ! load of rubish, i agree with the crowd !

One suggestion Simon.. Can you please get rid of that computer evaluation bar on the top? I saw chess.com uses that in their analysis videos as well... I really hate it.. I think most people do, just by reading comments on those videos of chess.com... We all want to hear what Simon think about the position.. Not what a bloody machine thinks about it. Anyway this is a great video & really instructive on how to play against the KID! But Please consider not including the evaluation bar in the future analysis videos! Thanks! :)
@psilohead
@psilohead 8 лет назад
I really enjoy when we get to here about how the computer is sometimes not to be trusted in certain positions.
@tharindanimnajith3525
@tharindanimnajith3525 8 лет назад
Exactly! Computer always underestimates the potential of great attacks! Plus when Simon says to find a tactical move in a critical position, it is pretty much impossible to do it on our own, when there is a computer close by, showing the correct move... Thankfully I think Simon said he included the computer evaluation only as a change in this video and hopefully it won't be there in the future analysis videos..

Another vote for no computer. Even if it was an accurate evaluation at all times, which clearly it isn't, the flickering in the corner of the eye is quite distracting!

Simon, just an observation, I liked the video a lot but I'm not so sure about having the engine analysis included at the top, because it sort of put me in two minds about what you were saying. While you were saying ...c5 wasn't so good in the position after Be3, the engine seemed to think it was the best move. I get why you put the engine evaluation up there, and I get why you might think c5 isn't a good move but putting the two together in one video is a bit confusing. Still a great and instructive video!

Love this. I just used it against a higher rated player and even sacrificed my queen to continue the pawn attack. After game analysis the Computer said I was losing but human opponent couldn't handle the pressure and I ended up winning in the end game.

After Nd7 and g4 my database suggests nc5 and that seems pretty good, cause it attacks e4 and you have to play f3 and than the g5 plan is not so strong cause the Knight can go to h5

The 2nd best move per the engine I'm looking at is instead of f3, play Bf3 and white can proceed with the original plan

Im a d4 and sicilian dragon player. I've always suspected a 0-0-0 possibility and yugoslavish type attack against kings indian but i am not good enough to develop it on my own and never seen it recommended before. This is exactly what i was looking for!

Thank you simon for this brilliant analysis but above all, for the supreme video of Ivan's comment after his defeat... I do love his humour. One last question : what is the worst choice : to commit suicide or to live for a thousand years on this so strange planet ?
@amorfati555

I have been here for a million years yet... And the only thing that makes me smile again is the desperate humour of a beautiful looser after an unglorious defeat. Victory doesn't bring anything but pride. On the contrary, defeat rises us up to the the ultimate level of human nature : What could be better than being a god and choosing to forget it ?

As pointed out by another comment, I think 6....c5 7.e5 Ne8 8.exd6 Nxd6! is worth a look. I recently had a tournament game with this (as White) and found it really annoying that the knight comes to f5. The engine seems to agree. What's your verdict on this, Simon? :)

Not my usual system against the KID but tried it out in 3 min blitz and won the first 2 times I used it (Beating a 1980 rated player, so not too tuff). Anyway, I liked it and will use it again.

What would you suggest if black plays 6... Nbd7/Na6, followed by ...e5 and ...Nc5? This way black has pressure on e4 before white can get in g5 and white is sort of forced to play f3; a move which I really don't want to have to play.

i don't know if you still respond to this video's comments or not but i have a friend who plays a lot of king's indian and whenever i move Be3 he pushes h6 because he thinks my next moves are going to be something like Qd2 in order to trade off his dark squared bishop, because if Qd2 does happen he can go Kh7 and defend. should i change anything with the play of pushing g4 & g5 then h4 & h5 or will it still work with a black pawn on h6
