This is something both me and Heath (RPR) have in common, We both like our motors simple to drive and easy to work on. These new trucks look great but older ones can be more fun. Thanks for posting....

That you know how to accomplish so many different areas... Machinery repair, building structures, husbandry with goats, chickens, cows etc, and processing animals & produce. Also, building roads, laying pipe for water & power, ... Absolutely amazing. Your wife as her own set of skills that are equally impressive. Throughly enjoy being able to see your journey. Just W-O-W..!!!

I read something today on Fox13Utah about how manufacturers were using a soy based insulation around vehicle wiring which causes rodents to chew on the wiring. People are suing because their vehicles are ruined to the point of being totaled by their insurance company.

I was a Navy Electronics technician in the Navy working on electronic gear for the A6A Grumman fighter jets. They had a circular plug that had over 50 wires that needed solddering in one plug.and of course all these sockets had a circular locks as well. Your troubleshooting of your problems reminded me of those days.

Mark: With the amount of maintenance that you do, you should invest in a good heat gun and solder sleeves for joining and repairing wires. Fool proof: premeasured solder, meltable dams at end of sleeves to ensure water proof, and very quick installation. I worked at Raychem corp in California during the time that this product was invented. Great product!

Eric O. over at South Main Auto channel has ton of videos showing damage from mice/rats chewing through wiring. You did a good job locating & fixing these :)

Mark: to discourage rodents from chewing cables, apply adhesive aluminum tape as used to seal wood stove chimney joints. Also, here in Greece, we put naphthalene "mothballs" close to cables to discourage rodents. We have especial problems with martens (pine or beach, I forget).

Seeing the harnesses not anchored properly to the fender makes me guess that someone was chasing ghosts before you owned the truck. Maybe why is was offered at auction? The risks of pre-owned vehicles.

Mice sure can cause a lot of damage to wiring and other automobile stuff. Sucks! But you might as well fix it right when you find it.😊

A vehicle lift sure would come in handy but I imagine you have decided it would pose another problem with space available in the shop.

having to fix intermittent electrical is so very hard... I once had a 80's era Toyota that had a break in the coil wire to the distributor.. the break was inside the coating so you couldn't see it. Long before the days of computer modules.. 3 or 4 mechanics later one found it... a 4 inch wire that cost about 10 cents.. and hundreds of dollars of labor. GM could sure spend a little more on the wiring set up, too much is just floppy or hanging with no protection.

The newer they get the more wires, chips and modules. They say 2014 to 2018 vehicles have on average 30 chips! What year that GMC? Tks

I'm 8 min into video and now testing my prediction. Green crusties somewhere - corrosion in a connector that is causing some of the 12v to pull up the 5v and other area causing the loss of ground. Maybe only loss of ground that allows a return signal to float to high and not a 12v coupled back. Oh, I'm feeling vulnerable sticking my head out there.

Inspections first is always the best thing. I lost points for that. A test light can determine if the vent valve is getting cycled. If you can tell when it should be under vacuum, pulling the gas cap and listening for air rush might tell if the valve is not cycling at that point. Applying power to the valve with a jumper and listening for it to cycle is another test. Mice eating wires is so common. Mfgr's should change the insulation on wiring.

Here is a solution... don't buy a car with an onboard computer. A car doesn't need one. I am with Heath on the topic of cars. All those sensors are just annoying, purposefully overcomplicating the basics of 4 wheels and an engine.
