Hello I love your Rv I would hire your self a flat deck tow truck and let them put it on top of the truck and you let them follow you to where you want it instead of driving it
Hello !! Thanks for watching and subscribing to the channel! Unfortunately a flat bed tow isn’t possible because of how long and how tall the RV is . The front wheels can be hooked up and the rear wheels need to roll down the road. That in itself would cost so big bucks being about 100 miles up and down some mountain roads lol
Make sure you look up how to lift (jack up) a GMC coach before you do. You can bend the frame and or pop out the front glass. They are kind of tricky to lift. Lots of little tricks tools so on so prepare to take notes. Congratulations by the way!
Thank you so much for watching! I did just that , I found a channel for GMC Motorhome enthusiast ran by Jim Bounds . That man knows his stuff . If your not familiar please take a peek you won’t regret it !
Great find! I also have a Painted 'Descent' ;) Your main concern will be with the ladder frame underneath the coach. Be sure to take a good look at the 'C' Channel seam underneath. If it is spreading apart or badly rusted you may want to reconsider. Regarding the airbag situation, there is a high risk the bags are going to 'pop' if inflated (if they do pop don't be near them) A solution to be able to get it onto the lowboy for towing home: Make 2 x steel rods that can be simply bolted between where the bags normally go for the purpose of getting onto the truck. keep in mind the rods need to be at enough length or adjustable so that the coach rear-end will clear its measly 10-degree departure angle and not scrape its butt on the tow vehicle. You can always order spare bags from applied GMC or Jim Bounds Coop later on when restoring the coach. If the coach has 'Good Bones' then you will have the most awesome motorhome on the road. I am looking forward to more videos on your channel. Grace and Peace from Downunder mate.
Haha I see what you did there 👀 “ painted descent “ . I honestly couldn’t read the text on the body so took a shot in the dark 🤣. What great information you’ve provided! I’m going to make a follow up episode asap ! I am so thankful for the amount of love on this episode! The GMC Motorhome community has reached out from all over with tips , things to look out for , how to correctly tow it and kind words . Seriously appreciate your support!
@@GrampasDayZChannelDZ I subscribed !! Very cool vlog ! That rig looks a lot better then the one here in Pennsylvania . Rust is a huge problem in my area and this rig is no exception 😂

I have one that I am restoring (1976 Glenbrook), and owned a 1973 Painted Desert parts coach. I'm helping a friend restore a different 1973 Painted Desert. They're amazingly well built. If you have mechanical skills, and the patience/wallet it's a great coach to own and restore. All the things that made them a superior product five decades ago haven't changed. Check the frame by the rear bogeys. Check the frame by the downward kick after the UPP. Make sure the motor turns, and the THM425 doesn't smell burnt. Be prepared to curse about the fuel system (I do, daily), and enjoy the ride. I'm aiming to be out in 2026 with a new interior, suspension, brakes, FI, everything but paint. They're worth it.
Unfortunately the frame rot is what killed the deal for me . I don’t have the means to lift the body from the frame . This was my first encounter with a GMC Motorhome and they are super unique. I will definitely be looking for one in the south to avoid any frame issues 😂. Thank you so much for watching. I have much more to come on the channel! Share my channel spread the word ! We are growing day by day 🙌🏻
I bought a 89 Toyota dolphin. We had all the manuals and paperwork. I bought it two weeks ago. It looks pretty good. It was partially redone in 2006, Engine and interior.
Congratulations! I looked into the Sunrader version and this little Toyota engines are impressive. Very easy to work on and secure parts. The only downside is lack of power . I’ve noticed a lot of people installing v6 Camery engines to make it easier to drive on the highways. Thanks for watching !
Bags look ok. On that side the blue line is the inflation line - but you can also rig it by adding a valve with a tap to the bag and inflate it with an air pump. when pumped up, close the valves. Welcome to the club!
Thank you for the information! I’m going to look into this mod and see what happens! Thank you so very much for watching! This episode has gotten more views then anything I’ve ever post ! I’m in total shock right now !!!

Thank you so much for watching! I have another special rig on my RU-vid channel ! Check it out ! I unfortunately couldn’t make a deal with the owner… but I’m still looking for a GMC , something about them just feels right when you are inside.
🥹🥹 best comment yet !!! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this !! Life has speeded up and I had a lot to do in a short amount of time. Unfortunately vlogging had to take a pause . I will be coming back soon with new content that I’m hoping will be entertaining 👀 thank you for subscribing and stay tuned!
What a cool veihcle, would love to have one! But my major concern would be that it has been standing on the grass for so long, maybe the RV is totally rusted under.
By there is a very interesting story behind the door of your GMC. You have a very special door there. You will notice that your outside door lock is different from every other year!
@@WeRoamtheUnknown Ha, ha, ha yes but they were never envisioned as an actual cross-country motorhome. They were pre-van and were seen as big station wagons with a bathroom and the ability to serve a meal and coffee, not actually cook one mind you. That is why the low clearance and the big windows. They were seen as portable offices, dressing rooms, party centers for picnics classy events, and stadium hang-out vehicles with a place for the kids to fall asleep. This feeling is what caused a bunch of GM execs and their wives to get trapped going to an event and caused the redesign of the door.
@@superbmediacontentcreator mind blown 🤯! I mean power train wise I always thought they could have done something more . Possibly designed a diesel platform or something? I get why they went with the Toronto model. Great way to cut production costs when you can drop in a completely assembled engine/ transmission. I’m sure it wasn’t their first choice but it made sense financially.
@@WeRoamtheUnknown I would take mine to car shows and there would always be a few that would want to argue all that like he was the first to have it. As to your comment, you can find the same tail light lenses as the Chevy vans of them (there is a better aftermarket one) and all the knobs are right off the police car Impales. To this day the NY City RTS busses have a lot of panels that could have come right off the GMC motorhomes. One has to understand a lot of this and operate them within their design parameters. Again start with the floor, meaning pull it up. Get the frame right the running great wiring and so forth. Do marine plywood with insulated hardwood floor over perhaps with heating strips between as there is just not enough room to add 3 inches of playroom and insulation. You can't change that design or nothing will ever line up. Do not do carpet or parquet as GMCs attract dirt and sand on the floor and the floor flexes so it will crack the parquet. Then do your interior. I forgot to tell you that the cockpit gets crazy hot in the summer if you don't put gate valves on your heater hoses and if I were doing one over I would run hard lines back as it gets cold for passengers. I do notice that the previous owner had the usual overheating and added the vents on each side of the engine compartment. By the way, the stuff I'm telling you is having had four transcodes and 2 motorhomes so I have already made a lot of mistakes broken things, and been stuck by the side of the road cause I just didn't know a few things in advance. By the way, the mud daubers love the heater output so you will need the screens or suffer the invasion of the wasps behind the sink! Also, you will fall in love with expanding foam since field mice seem to absolutely love the GMCs. One of the big things with GMCs is hunting down and then stowing away such things as glass and hardware but most all the running gear can be either ordered or replaced with lighter and better current technology. So this isn't wishful thinking stuff it's stuff I wish I had known!
We have the 77 gmc eleganza II... we love it. It's work but our kids love it. And we can put our own touch. So we bought a portable air compressor and we should have some that a year ago. Just buy a portable one.
Hey !! Thank you for watching the episode! I’m so amazed at how many of these rigs are still in the road after 40 plus years ! Such a great community of people! I did try to pump the rest air springs up but failed at getting it to lift 😂. I appreciate you subscribing to the channel also ! Hope you enjoy the content!
😂 the motor would turn over with a jump or fresh battery BUT it did rotate by hand so it wasn’t locked up . Unfortunately the owner didn’t have a title so I had to pass . I didn’t feel comfortable investing time / money into something that wasn’t mine legally. I had footage for a part 2 but my SD card decided to crash … so I’m doing what I can to recover anything!

I saw this on Facebook but was in the Philippines at the time. Didn’t make it back before you got it. I live in Lebanon. I’ve got a dodge travco rotting in a field I need to get through before a gmc project. Good luck.
Hey thanks for watching!! I live in Lancaster so not to far . Yeah it was definitely in rough shape to say the least 😂 . I was very close to getting a Travco a few years ago but just like this GMC the owner did not have a title …
She's a beaut. Think you can still find the curved glass windshield? Frame condition? Perhaps can jack up rv and block up between frame and suspension. Cool rig!!
It’s definitely a rare bird ! I’m going to make a follow episode asap on my findings! Let me tell you something, those windshields are a pretty penny 😜 but you can still get new glass for the motorhome. Thank you for watching the episode and supporting this little RU-vid channel!
😂 I love that you took the time to figure out how much it would close to send glass across the world ! We both know it would arrive in worse condition then the current ones on the rig 🤣🤣
They are Definitely A cool motorhome. I own two of them. There are great Facebook groups for questions. There are also company’s that have replacement parts for them. Watch a few of Jim bounds videos on Facebook about them, lots of great info
The GMC Motorhome community has been so awesome! I’ve had a crash course in what to look for and what to look out for lol 😂 I can definitely see myself getting hooked on this chassis. If only I had more space to park a fleet of them … future goals . Get a barn . Fill it with old rigs 🤞🏻. Hey thank you for watching! I’ll be putting out a follow up episode asap !

It looks cool. I guess that was GMC's way to make a Airstream look a like with the way they rounded it. It would be a Great build though. Will allow you more room while you travel as well. If you do get it, you can sell the first build when complete and then start on the new one.
It’s such a neat rig ! I’ve never seen anything like it ! So many questions need to be answered and so much research needs to be done . I really appreciate you watching the episode. Totally blown away by the mass interest in this particular vlog . Chappie is my first build and I don’t think I could part with him lol I have him tattooed on my leg 🤣
@@WeRoamtheUnknown well since you have him tattooed on your leg, he can't go anywhere now. I had a chance to buy a cheap Airstream 2 years ago that had already been gutted out and new wires ran. Everything was there, just needed to be cleaned and put back together. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it.
Hahah your right Chappie is mine forever tattooed on my body but still don’t have the heart to let him go . This GMC is neat but really rough. I’ll be doing a follow up episode asap . I’ve always like the dodge Travco . I saw those before the GMC and recently learned airstream had some Motorhomes vs the trailers I’m use to seeing around. I follow A few channels that rebuild airstream trailers . I love the way they look but I suck with a trailer haha can’t back one up to save my life ! Sorry you missed out on that project. I’ve been there to many times but you’ll get another shot at it !
The son in law of the man who created the airstream, invented the revcon. It not makes sense that they would appear familiar. I like the revcon quite a lot, and have seen a lot of motor homes.
Located in Lancaster country 🤘🏻! Since I’ve posted this quick and dirty episode I’ve received some many comments from other GMC owners! Such a great community of people! Thank you for watching and subscribing, truly means the world to us !
Unfortunately the floors had a significant amount of damage that I was comfortable taking on 🙁. I have been vlogging but have not dropped any new episodes. I have a lot of episodes yet to come ! Thank you for watching and if you haven’t yet could you please subscribe!
It will cost between $20k and $30k just to get it safe to drive. Tires are junk, all air bags are in similar condition. Fuel lines are likely full of cracks. If you have a budget for such things,? They WERE fine vehicles.
No sir , the budget is very modest lol I enjoy saving old rigs like this one here . I did a deep dive on parts and availability on the GMC’s and was very impressed! It’s definitely very possible to secure parts for a 50+ year old vehicle! The pricing could be a little steep 😅 I appreciate you taking the time to view the episode and subscribing !! Means a lot to us !
Believe it or not GM still has parts after all this time ! They are very expensive though! Almost $1,500 for one side . Also thank you so much for watching!
Thank you so much for watching ! Unfortunately the rig was not free but it was pretty close to it . I did weigh in on the Pros vs Cons thanks to everyone that commented. I know it’s been a few months later BUT I will be dropping a follow up to the Rig !
This was a long time ago 😅 , from what I remember I think he would move from 2k . After further inspection I saw the floor rails had rotted away due to laying in the mud for years. I walked away … I didn’t want to but I don’t have the means to lift the body off the frame to repair it properly.
Thank you for watching the episode! It’s definitely a really rough rig . I’m going to make a follow up episode asap on my findings and will share it ! I’ve learned a lot in such a short span of time due to how friendly the GMC Motorhome community is !

Hey fellow lanc local! Small world ! At the moment I’m in the process of putting an episode together! Seriously appreciate you watching and subscribing to the channel. This one episode has more views then all 52 of the my episodes COMBINED! My mind is blown by the response! 🙌🏻!
@@DanielLovelock hello ! I really appreciate you reaching out ! Unfortunately I lost the footage from my second visit to the Motorhome. My SD card cleared it self while uploading it to my laptop… long story short I found a little more damage I was whiling to take on. The floors and frame at the rear was severely compromised. The windshield would cost about 3 k to fix BUT the most saddening part of it all was the owner didn’t have a title . So I passed on the purchase. I will be looking for a 23 foot version in the near future! Truly had some many Motorhome owners reach out and I’m blown away how welcoming the community it is !
We bought one and have sunk $15,000 into it already and it never ends! It has a compressor that is loud! Don't do it. They are not worth it! How do I upload photos? Also is this free and /or something you already took possession in?
Oh my ! 😂 I have many questions! So do you still have the Rv after such an investment?! How long did it take to get to that 15k figure? Do you have any videos or photos of the finished product?! Thank you for watching and the warning ! I greatly appreciate the honesty.
Hey sorry for the late message! My notifications weren’t turned on 😳… unfortunately I didn’t pick up the GMC . The floors had to much damage and the owner wouldn’t move on pricing. I lost all of the content on a bad SD card and never re-recorded that moment in time . Didn’t feel genuine to me so I moved onto a new project! Complete build series is ready to go !
Negative my friend… I wanted to but the person that was selling it wasn’t the owner. The original owner passed away a few years ago . So I wasn’t comfortable with the sale . Really sucks because I feel in love with the rig instantly.
Agreed. It depends Secondly, how far you plan on traveling from home. It is not an across the country or something for high elevations. When we drove from Indiana to CA. The big rigs were flying past us. We never really drove more than 55 MPH. Back then that is the speed people drove at in the mid 70’s It feels like your standing still now. Plus it loud inside at those speeds. The wind and road noise and motor between the driver and passenger is not pleasant. So I recommend buying one in real good shape to start with. Then just be prepared to constantly maintain. That is how motorhomes are.! So this will be no exception although more will need to be done. As everything has aged by now and everything that’s plastic will have to be replaced. It gets pretty old and things aren’t working. The front air conditioner doesn’t work on most of them so there’s always stuff you need to work out replace, fix or just learn to live with. So it’s a matter of what you can deal with and how safe you feel. The brakes work but it’s never something that you’re fully get used to because of how cars are built today. We are spoiled now. So even though we were stopped all the time, like at gas stations, stop lights, etc. and everyone was curious an infatuated it is not a comfortable drive. So I suggest short trips. Oh, BTW we never did make it further than TN. Before we knew it was time to fix several things in order to continue our Journey. Then we dumped our first $8000 into it on the mechanic and probably about two grand and parts that we had to have delivered to the mechanic that we found in Tennessee. We flew back about six weeks later and made our way to Texas and then down are over I should say to California. It was definitely something that we remember and we can tell the story about. But I think sometimes we wish we didn’t buy it because of the expense and now when you’re ready it’s so deep you don’t know what to do. And most of the things have already been completed. Now it has been gutted to the Chassis but kept the passenger and driver‘s chairs and the wet bath. Everything else was removed all the flooring was replaced with marine grade plywood and I don’t even know what else because I gave up on caring. It has become actually a sore subject in our family because we have different opinions on the amount of money we will spend on it. This is very expensive to rebuild if you want to do it right. I liked it the way it was. I call her Daisy as she has flowered upholstery on the sofa and back seats that turn into a bed. She had a brand new paint job 3.5 years ago when we bought her. Today she is all gassed up to take to get 6 new Tires tomorrow.🚇
My advice is to buy the money-pit and learn how to use a smartphone in the horizontal position then you will get many more viewers as the upright mode of filming is aggravating to watch!!!! AND the upright mode is really for selfie photo shots of morons ;-) (The suspension Air-Bags are $350 each to replace)
Thanks for the view and feedback. This episode was a case study . Completely different from my other episodes on my channel. Be sure to take a peek so you have a clear understanding of what I mean . This episode was raw , in the moment and shot virtually on purpose to see if it would effect the experience. This episode is my most viewed episode. Which means being spontaneous works vs setting up camera shoots , spending hours on editing and so on . Much like my other episodes that take so much love and time put together. I’m pleased with the results of this episode and thankful for all the people that have watched it , given me tips and most importantly connecting with super kind people that are into old rigs like myself.
