I'd also love to see him play the 3D fangame of yume nikki! The 3D liminal-esque beginning area and the house with floral wallpaper fit into the creepy comfy vibe so well
I would also love to see him play Omori. That game has fantastic writing and characters, and it's psychological horror aspect is definitely inspired by Yume Nikki while still being a unique and memorable experience. And since a major part of Omori is being inside of a dream world, I feel like it's definitely right up his alley.
This was incredible. It went from midly unnerving to a real sense of threat. It felt kind of familiar to me; I have dreams like that, something that seems just odd suddenly becomes threatening. Nice. And that last section with the light switches is visually very interesting. And my god, poor Pigsy. Pigsy deserves a hug.
I love surreal stuff. Dreamcore, weird core, things like that. Add horror to that and you get a cool as hell mix. I didn't expect to cry. Pigsy, poor guy...
14:35 For some reason, made me think of Team Fortress 2's Observer craze. Just a bunch of people playing Spies with a specific cosmetic loadout meant to invoke the feeling of a piercing gaze. They'd just stand there... and observe. Maybe sometimes cloaking when someone draws near or when shot at but only reappear somewhere else. It was like if the Spectator 'team' actually had a physical form.
once I was in Geneva and was walking down a dark alley with my sister to get to a restaurant. we went around the corner and were jumpscared by a CRT TV with a video of an eye (just like the one in the first minute of this video) looking around frantically. it was apparently some kind of advertisement for an avant-garde art show on. it was so surreal
I'm always amazed by how much he seems to know about half life and the source engine and then at the same time sometimes not knowing so much this time it's the tool gun from Garry's mod 😂🤣 Oftentimes as well it's the default Half-Life to graffiti that you look way too far into That's why we love you and the fact that you get so immersed into every map that you jump at every little creek
One of my favourite playthroughs so far. Somehow I instantly feel what the map conveys even though I'm only watching this video of it and not actually playing it. So magical yet the most unnerving
@@Storse this thread is basically a meeting of people who got garrys mod but never played original half life 2 at this point. come on, you are teached to zoom before you get a crowbar!
This one was actually really good, I'm glad I gave it a chance. Almost wrote it off, "surreal horror" can mean all sorts of quality these days. The scares were properly subtle and the messages on the wall actually felt quite menacing, cashing out well on the sense of being watched that the game spent building up. The corpses were maybe a little cheesy, but around the Pigsy section I did find myself becoming a bit apprehensive, lol.
9:50-11:10. I love the way that The Librarian talks about stuff like this. You're so philosophic about the most random of things. The way that you smoothly talk, along with the Everywhere-at-the-end-of-time-like style of medium pitched jazz, it makes me change. The way you rationalize makes me think about other people, and how they exist. Other people, other perceivers, different things, the way that they all see differently. And the dream state. It does make me feel strongly to random stuff. Hell, I cried over a bee in a dream once. The fact that the nonsense you say isn't nonsense at all makes me smile, and i always binge watch your videos after a month of not watching them. No matter how long it takes me, I usually finish a month or two worth of videos. It's nice watching someone like you, or just you in general. I hope that you get to 200,000 and beyond on subscribers, and live the good life doing horror based content like coryxkenshin 😆 I hope you have had a great time making videos, and I really want you to keep up doing what you like to do. Sorry for the mile long rant
A lot of people are talking about the Yume Nikki inspiration and ripped music but I haven't seen anyone talk about how the ending segment is ripped straight from Off, even down to the light switch. I'm not complaining I absolutely love both Yume Nikki and Off so it's cool to see them inspire other things!
Oh yeah! Love that game to death. It would be a great fit for the channel too. Zone 2 fits the creepy/comfy motif. Zone 3 (among other things/places) is horror. The whole game is a surreal yet engaging experience. The music is perfect too. Absolutely second this!
You should try gm_hillscape. Quite an old map, but it has such a comfy dreamlike atmosphere that it's one of my favourites by far. I'd recommend not using the warps for extra exploration.
Hey Librarian. There's this game I found recently which I think you may like. It's called Voices of the Void and it's something like a job simulator horror game with a Source aesthetic where you look for signals from space. Anyways, keep up the good content!
Walls being so dark that they camouflage as void is such an interesting idea, and there's no way this is the first map to have played with it, but the way the idea is introduced and escalates through the course of the map is extremely impressive. 22:55 is a moment that's less horror than terror, and that's incredible.
I didn't try it as more scripted maps like this tend to have problems with it, but I know I would have gotten stuck any time the grav gun had to be used.
Librarian. I'm really a fan of your work. Your analytical narration is very good that it makes me very observant to the video. Your voice is so chill i like the way you brought the video yet your reaction to the jumpscares is a comedy. Also your content is very suitable for adult viewers as it's great to see a gaming channel that talk senses. Even sometimes I watch your videos just to put me to sleep because of your soothing voice. Love you librarian
Hey hey, sorry if i commented this before but i still want to recommend you a very weird and surreal walking simulator game called “#21, The World” by a developed called “LSDdev” He basically made a lot of his dreams and things in his life into this surreal expansive exploration based game. I think it would really fit based on games like Cement Mixer Simulator and Hendicad. Vinesauce did a couple streams of it too if you want to take a peek :) I think you’d love it and it would fit the channels content! Anyways, have a good one! Loved this and i love all your other stuff! Keep it up!
Really love your content, especially Gmod VR, but really any Gmod Horror map is fun to watch :) Keep those horror maps flowing for some time, really makes my day :D Goodjob with keeping up your energy to do all of these long playthroughs.
The drawn level near the end of the map kinda reminds me of the psychosis levels from Afraid of Monsters. And also old tf2 maps with the same artsyle, honestly maps and games like these give me nostalgia of playing tf2 on trade_psykopat2 which is a nice feeling. Anyways nice video, hope to see more surreal maps in the future.
Have you ever thought of playing Dusk (not sure why I’m asking this on a random video, other than the black walls making me think of it) on this channel? It’s a lot more of an intense shooter than you usually play, but it’s got some great horror to it.
21:36 As a kid, I recall that I had a couple nasty dreams where something creepy or scary was chasing me. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get away- until I turned around and said something like "You wanna be friends?" And then the monster stopped chasing me and we walked around or talked for a bit.
25:15 "I will not run jump or climb. I will not kneel, lie down, or cover any sensors. I will not make physical contact with other players, or use offensive language. I will play hard, play smart, and play to survive!"
I'm not sure if I'm going schizo or if it's purely accidental or intentional but I can keep making out eyes in the shapes of things, in textures, etc... for example in the vent early on, specifically in the lit up section, the wall at the end almost looks like a grayscale face. or in the section after the vent I can almost make out an eye-like shape in the carpet's pattern. the oval shape of the light posts in the neighborhood, the white blotches in the texture of one of the houses in the neighborhood. Either way, I'm not too far into the video and I'm in love with this map.
Oh wow, that sketchy portion of the first ending gives me some serious half-quake vibes. Always loved that surreal monochrome look, I always thought source did a particularly good job with that
Hey Librarian, I just want you to know I really love your Gmod exploration videos They are way better than those dumb "Obunga chases me in the backrooms" videos. I also really love your half-life mod gameplay videos. Well alright that's all I had to say and please keep doing what you are doing!
19:35 love ur commentary on the dream logic of it but in this example the ideas are connected, no? like maybe one of the features were pig-like ears? that's why he cut them off?
