I am aware it kind off defeats the purpose of liminal maps but if possible I'd love to see more npcs/characters included in your future work. The rarity of said npcs make them all that much more interesting.
@@Jepegish when we started the project, we didn't think of making a "liminal space" map. gm_liminal_space was a thing that we used as reference, indeed, but we wanted to make a map with extreme degree of surrealism, to make it possible to hide a lot of secrets. Making it chaotic gives us total freedom, including usage of NPCs. I'm glad you like the NPCs in this map and you can thank Kycea for adding them
Speaking from experience here: Perhaps part of the reason behind the more humorous aspects of the map was due to the authors feeling unnerved by the map as they were working on it.
Kycea added humor to this map while i was making it, like, more atmospheric, like other maps i did in the past, gm_post_ussr, gm_liminal_space, rp_aneurism_v2, etc, they all kinda avoid non-serious stuff. On other hand, gm_disrepair is about being broken in funky way. So... There were 2 forces, each added something to this map to provide unusual experience

this explosion at the start had such a good timing lol, eastern european architecture always has an impact on me, when I see it in your videos I always feel comfy and at home, It's just so familiar for me because I lived in Russia for my whole life. That's why horror games or/and maps with eastern european aesthetics scare me so much
I enjoy these reality-bending, otherworldly, parallel-reality liminal maps so much. The sound design is so well done; not too much and not too little. -Exciting map!
Mr Librarian, I would love to see you live streaming. I've been with your channel for a good few years now, and I just can't get over the content you have pumped out over time. I've never got the chance to see you live, and i'd really like to know if you have possibly considered it. I think being able to not only explore a map in gmod with you being a great experience, but an entire audience both reacting to you and the events happening in the map in real time.
I don't think it's meant to emulate AI. As the name suggests, this map is supposed to be in "disrepair". Not that it is set in a place that is in disrepair, but that the map itself is in disrepair. This is why it has so many unusual design decisions, like the incongruencies with the skybox, the seemingly glitchy nature, the teleporters that take you outside the map. It's supposed to look like a map that's been corrupted.
Awesome video as always, can’t go wrong with GM explores! Also, Mm, Outer Wilds video teaser! I theorize we’re either going to see Giants Deep or Brittle Hollow, what’s with the mention of walking down structures built on the wall
Giant's Deep is possible seeing as the game heavily directs you there because most NPCs mention Gabbro and them being on Giant's Deep where the Nomai Statue was found. So, a curious player might go that way to hear what Gabbro has to say on the statue... and other stuff that I won't discuss here because they're spoilers.

@@meridiasbeacon7669 it's a perfect game for the librarian because it's all about observation, and librarian has this critic-observation-analitic gameplay style, always offering the 100% of himself for the story and the message of the game-creator. And of course, Outer Wilds has this kinda terrifying vibe about space and unknowledge (not just for the DLC, but for the base game itself).
I must pay tribute to the author of the map for creating an atmosphere - throughout the map there are two opposite colors - warm, like a home hearth orange, which causes me anxiety and rejection for unknown reasons, and cold, mysterious blue, which for some reason I want to follow forever
This would make an absolutely wonderful DarkRP map. I know I say this about a bunch of maps you've showcased, but the intricacy and many different levels of gm_Disrepair really takes the cake.
Contexless liminal space maps are neat but I kind want to see more explorations of maps that are more grounded with a bit more context to be extracted from context clues.
@@PrestonK_Productions no problem, we weren't trying to make a liminal map, my areas weren't made from dreams or references, I made some really weird areas, fully knowing they were surreal, so they could for sure come off liminal-ly.
I vaguely remember another map you explored, where suitcases/briefcases were a mode of teleportation. Too tired to go look now, but it might also have been the GM post-soviet map.
Rarely used feature. env_fog_controller has a feature to set "primary" and "secondary" colors depending on fog angle. I did it because the skybox has 2 colors and i wanted to make the fog blend with it better. Sadly it's not perfect in comparison to modern engines and depends on player rotation rather than makes an actual blending of fog depending on global coordinates. Nonetheless that's a helpful tool
"The Blue Oyster" is a double reference. "The Blue Oyster" is the bar from the Family Guy spinoff The Cleveland Show, but that in and of itself is a reference to the band "Blue Oyster Cult".

every time Polybius is mentioned i'm reminded of vague memories of hearing about an arcade cabinet that did get recalled because a kid had a seizure once and people being mad because they really liked the game but i can't remember anything else about it it caused headaches nausea and dizziness in some people but it was a really popular so it was ignored but then the kid had a seizure and his parents sued because the company knew it was dangerous and the console got recalled but then everyone was like well the parents knew the kid had photosensitive epilepsy what was he doing playing video games put a warning on it instead of banning it completely and there is this big controversial debate over it but again my memories are super vague i cause i was a little kid at the time

Gm_scrapmetal. its a great map with many areas, uses almost all the themes from HL2. and it doesnt us any non gmod textures or props, and best of all. its creepy yet comfy.

On "AI art", I can try to help explaining: it sees nothing. It is just that normally, this line follows that line from the data loaded in. If you load in "I am..." sentences, it will figure that "I" is followed by "am", then the rest of the sentence is picked by factors like weights or the numeral occurance - if 10 datasets have one "I am Adam", one "I am silly" and 8 "I am Bob", the AI will pick "B" as a started after "I am..." 8 times out of ten.
Apparently, Polybius is believed to be a hoax from back in the early aughts that was created to get traffic to someone's website. ...though various individual aspects of the urban legend/hoax are rooted in real occurrences. There is enough reasonable doubt that Polybius itself *could* have been real in some capacity, but any evidence of it is questionable. It *is* very possible, however, that another game checks all the boxes of the core urban legend of Polybius.
