Why use two 50 watt transceivers? The receive radio does not require a transmitter so why not use a much less expensive low power HT with a good receive section? That would save a great deal of space and expense while allowing the use of a full 50 watt transmitting radio. you would still have the same capability reapeater.
@@bthemedia I will be following up with a post on it. I did use this device for repeater announcements www.hamgadgets.com/ID-O-MATIC-IV However i did switch to a licensed IB band for my use case. It can still be used for GMRS.
Is this being used as a "race radio" setup? Just double check to be sure you're legal. Great looking setup, would love to see a video breakdown, would love to set up my own GMRS repeater someday. I'm assuming there's a duplexer in the case. Thanks
The intention was to use it as race radio for an armature team, so i didn't consider it a business since its non for profit, amateur weekend want-a-be's and hobby for everyone involved. Not sure when a personal activity becomes a business activity and thus not legal for FRS/GMRS. You do get a lot of people using FRS for these amateur track events. I wanted to get past the noise of FRS and add range by moving to GMRS and adding a repeater. The main challenge was getting all the drivers who were not family to get a GMRS license so we were all legal. Since that was a hassle, even though it was easy to get a GMRS license, I actually switched the rig to a business band to avoid the hassle and avoid the announcement requirements. Though I did get this device to help with that. www.hamgadgets.com/ID-O-MATIC-IV I got a license on business/industrial band for itinerant use. It allows you to temporarily use a set of frequencies anywhere in the continental US. no need for the individual users to be licensed. A bit more expensive, but better to be legal, and not worry about individual GMRS licenses. So far this has worked out great. The general setup of the rig still applies for GMRS, even though i switched it, just a different UHF frequency. I will post more on the build.
