My one note is that i believe since their main goal is hunt for food, when the gnoll makes a melee attack and drops a character to zero, his instincts kick in and he goes in to bite and feed on that character, automatically making them fail a death save.

Making a gnoll warband for my players at higher level. Using volo's monsters. The warband is called the Rotted Ravagers. It consists of 1 flind, 18 gnols, 4 gnoll flesh gnawers, a few swarms of flies, and 3 lecrutta (sp?). Food and drinks spoil 5 miles from the horde, their stench can be smelled up to 5 miles, fly swarms remain at the site of their last slaughter for 3 days, and any survivors are hit with a disease. This unknown disease spreading will be what hooks the players. Or they will hear talks of entire towns being ravaged. Or they won't discover anything and yeenogu will be summoned and ya lol

I like my Gnolls are just like the Reavers from Firefly. "..., they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And, if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order."

Not trying to be mean, but I already miss Rhys. I really hope he comes back for some future videos as his Charisma was a 20 in my book. Tough loss for Jetpack 7

I don't like the official gnoll lore for 5e. They kind of ruined them in my opinion - I much prefer Pathfinder and previous editions of D&D take on gnoll lore/culture.

We hear you. :) There are a lot of good resources out there to help the 5e gnoll lore for sure. Our goal with this vid was to kind of maximize their encounter potential a little more, while keeping in mind they are "meant" to be the low level monsters PCs are likely to encounter. 5e in general can leave some things up to interpretation so our goal is to help fill in some of the guesswork where we can. Have fun!
