I grew up with this movie. I don't care how many people hated it, its one of the reasons I'm taking 2d animation in university. This movie has a special place in my heart.
I might have liked it if I was younger but sadly I have seen it in my teen years and didn't like it much. the only saving grace is this exact song. The villains always have the best songs.
According to Don Bluth's memoir, when Cloris Leachman showed up to record her lines she instantly started snatching all the crew members' takeout burgers and fries, tossing them in the trash and lecturing the hell out of them on healthy eating. And that, Bluth says, is why she was so perfect for the character.
As a fellow animator, I admire Don Bluth's artistic style but I was never a big fan of his storytelling. Nevertheless, the villain songs in his movies due the artwork justice.
Stanley has positive energy because he can grow flowers and Gnorga has negative energy because she can turn anything she touches into stone. That is the symbolism of this movie.

People Yzma was Eartha Kitt This is Cloris Leachman Two different women and roles that were played wonderful and respectful by the actress who played them.
Yzma and Gnorga both wear purple, and they're both from different movies. Gnorga is from _A Troll in Central Park,_ and Yzma is from _The Emperor's New Groove._
Say what you want about Don Bluth's films in a negative light, you can never deny how so bad it's funny this song is along with Tim Curry's song in Pebble and the Penguin.
i literally grew with this film as many of us did, watched before school, after school.....realizing it was Cloris as gnorga makes me beyond happy, idk why except Cloria was amazing, glad to see she jumped on the animation bandwagon
This movie really isn't that bad. There are certainly much worse animated films out there. However, it is definitely the weakest of Bluth's (Pebble And The Penguin doesn't count because Bluth himself disowned it) and I think it's because he was trying to do something less dark and more traditionally kid friendly and he simply didn't know how. He learned by the time he did Anastasia, but on this one he was still figuring it out.
No it isn't. If you are at all familiar with the original Anderson story, you'd know that it's even more random and silly than Bluth's version that actually improved it significantly. We can debate whether or not Thumbelina is a good story to begin with, but Bluth's film is an excellent adaptation of it. Tell me, why is it that Frozen gets tons of undeserved praise when it's nothing like The Snow Queen (despite allegedly being based on it) but Thumbelina gets tons of undeserved hatred for being faithful to the story when most animated fairy tales are not?

Wow... so many memories from this movie. This was way back in the day when 2D was (and still is IMO) the shit! Wow. Thanks for this man! Gnorga was the meanest bitch around!
What I liked about Cloris Leachman’s Gnorga is that she has that deliciously wicked voice of Ursula, the stylish wardrobe of Yzma and an insane cackling laugh of Cruella De Vil that just rings in your ear and that she just relishes in just being despicable. Plus her villain song though not the best well written or right up there like Poor Unfortunate Souls or Be Prepared but it’s still pretty catchy and badass and the orchestration is kickass.
I grew up with this movie, as well. Cloris Leachman was a gem. I wonder if the songwriters were influenced by the real life Queen of Mean, Leona Helmsley for the song title? Certainly applies.
Or at least give Stanley more character development and give him more charm and personality but still make him a sharp contrast to Gnorga and the rest of the trolls.
tripp cory Uh, let's see; Creepy Queen Creepy Queen turns people to stone Everyone acts as if it's normal to turn people to stone Kid is transformed into a troll (which is just as scary as that kid in Pinocchio being turned into a donkey) And that's all I remember off the top of my head

Unlike a lot of responses you've probably gotten, I'm gonna be nice and say that I think I get why. Gnorga is hideous, cruel, heck, pretty much no redeeming characteristics at all to make you feel sorry when she dies. But she's very confident in herself. Gnorga is hideous, which seems to be the troll version of beauty there, and she knows and relishes that fact. She's hideous and powerful, and knows and loves those facts. She practically radiates glee from them. That may be what attracts you.
