After (5) installs and re-installs of GNS3. It worked. Whew! 04-18-21 Early afternoon. Not working. Does not work... GNS3 out of the box is a difficult puppy! I've been trying since 2015 to find a reasonable path to work with GNS3 and there is always something. Is just mind boggling that in 2021 GNS is still working with a 90's setup path. Gosh!

ENABLE VIRTUALIZATION ON GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD AND AMD PROCESSOR 1.-Reset the computer and enter the BIOS(F2 key). 2.- Select the option "Advanced Frequency Settings". 3.-Select "Advanced CPU Core Settings". 4.-"SVM Mode" change it to "Enable". 5.- Select the "Chipset" menu. 6.- "IOMMU" change it to "Enabled". 7.- Press F10 to exit and save the changes.

If anyone is using VMWare WorkStation Pro 15.0 and it doesn't work for them and the GNS3 VM is greyed out for them, please notice that updating the VMWare WorkStation to the version 15.5 fixed it for me.

I am facing an issue as I installed everything correctly, but when I run the VMWare, it shows me this message, ``` Virtualized Intel VT-x/EPT is not supported on this platform. Continue without virtualized Intel VT-x/EPT? ``` When I click on "No", it shows "Failed to start the virtual machine". While upon clicking "Yes", it shows: ```VMware Workstation does not support nested virtualization on this host. Module 'HV' power on failed. Failed to start the virtual machine. ``` Would you mind letting me know the possible solution, please? Thanks

GNS3 is full of instalation and running problems .-( oh my god....

If you're watching this and it's not working for you, that's because you're using VMware workstation 15, the current version. Using VMware workstation player 14 with VIX 1.17 will work. You have to navigate the vmware website to find the version 14 (its buried, but its there) and version 1.17. THEN if you're using windows 10, it'll try to tell you that you cannot use that app, so then you need to turn off windows program compatibility by shutting down the service, then reboot, and then rename the .exe for vmware player 14 (I googled instructions on how to do this, it's not hard) THEN...well, I still didn't get vmrun to ever work, so I just manually opened vmware player 14...not a huge deal to me. USING VMWARE PLAYER 15 IS NOT CURRENTLY RECOMMENDED, I found all this info on the GNS3 forums. wrmem.net/index.php/2016/03/22/gns3-vm-and-vmware-workstation-12-player-could-not-find-the-default-vm-directory/ gns3.com/community/discussion/gns3-doesn-t-work-on-vmware-play that is, as of this current date 11/10/2019. I also can't think of a different workaround for anyone using Intel, but AMD users can just use Virtual Box as it now supports nested virtualization for AMD processors (apparently doesn't work with Intel yet?)

I love the video but c'mon man.... tell us to shutdown GNS3 BEFORE you install VMware workstation in the video, don't tell us AFTER you install it in the video LOL... I had to redo it lol... But it's cool I got it to work. Great video my friend.

I had issues to get the vm LED go green on me. I spent hours reading about it on the gns3 community but could not get it to turn on green. I ended up uninstalling and starting fresh. The only thing I changed was after installing the GUI, I enable the gns3vm before downloading the GNS3 VM and it worked. Don't know why but I am thankful for this video. If you get a chance you may want to address that issues. I think lots of folks run into it. Regards Ben

Hi. Interesting video. Anyway, I still haven't understood why we need to install a GNS3 GUI (and its server) on our Windows PC and a GNS3 VM in VmWare? Couldn't we run anything in VMWare and install images of devices in the GNS3 vm only? Why do I need both? Thanks

Hey David, I stumbled across your videos because I've been looking for help. I followed your steps here, and I get an error stating that my eth0 isn't connected. I can fix that by manually removing the comments in the network file, but after that my VM is always greyed out and not green within the GUI. Any help would be appreciated!

Change SERVER and GNS3 VM ports both to 80. version 2.2.17 has a Web UI over 80 and it can use that. 3080 doesn't seem to be blocked on my system and all applications are completely allowed through. I even added gns3vmnet to the firewall (it wasn't there before), then the error changed from TIMEOUT to CONNECTION REFUSED.

I had an issue with installation where my Hper-V was detected as enabled by VMware although it wasn't. the issue with VMware Workstation Pro was resolved by addressing the Core Isolation/Memory Integrity setting in Windows Security. That feature can indeed conflict with virtualization software by reserving the hardware virtualization capabilities for security purposes, which can prevent other virtualization platforms from accessing them.

If you get this errorr : "Virtualized AMD-V/RVI is not supported, then open Win Powershell (as administrator) type: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off if problem presist then win + r > optionalfeatures and remove "Windows Subsystem for Linux". That worked for me ! *don't forget to reboot

David Please HELP! I'm having issues with VMWare Pro 15.5.6 and GNS3 2.2.12 the configuration with KVM support True and such is telling me "does not support nested virtualization on this host" Module MonitorMode powered on failed. Just want to address, if no one has pointed this out, I am running GNS3, VMWare Fusion on Mac Os X Catalina (latest as of July 27,2020). I had an issue with GNS3 not displaying a 'green' light under the server summary for the corresponding VM. On VMWare Fusion, I went into Configure, and noticed the port was set to 80. Changed the port to 3080 and save/write those changes. This fixed my issue. It took me three hours, reinstalling everything. Googling.

I’m running this on a surface pro 4. The vm did not load initially. Error: “virtualized intel by-c/EPT, is not supported on this platform” I had to disable this in the VM settings. And I also needed to uncheck “Hyper visor “ in windows 10. This seems to have fixed the problem.

Hello! Can we run differend devices in one project on differeng GNS3 servers? like if you run PC1 on asus, and PC2 on VM. will it work correctly? The answer is: i try to use different servers with wmware workstation, but gns3 see only local installaton of wmware and VMs on it. Any other installation of workstation with VMs in the same local network cant be connected.

In my case, I've installed everything properly on linux ubuntu. But my gns3 isn't detecting the GNS3 VM aftere lots of refreshes and even after reinstalling the VM, still it's not detecting.

David excuse me, I followed the steps you gave in the video, but I don't know what is really going on and what is causing this behavior: after installing and integrating gns3 vm with gns3 gui, I see that when I run my gns3 application, gns3 vm also starts correctly but the gns3 gui control panel only identifies my local server which turns green but not my GNS3 VM. Consequence GNS3 Gui still works on my local server (i.e. my physical host) without the Gns3 Vm, but I want to resolve this issue to now run my topologies on the virtual server installed on vmware. Please help me solve this problem.

What about importing appliances? I constantly get "Missing files" when trying to import an appliance from the GNS3 server

I have to say I'm not a fan of the Solarwinds additions in GNS3 now pushes during an install. Mandatory email address for info, then another suggestion at the end. Neither of which is even required for the actual install to work. Solarwinds sales reps have called me on my own phone, constantly emailed me they're very aggressive. I've learned to give fake phone numbers or email. Their products are good but they are ruining their reputation by being so aggressive. edit: I see they bought GNS3 in 2016....urgh

That is a clear and a fantastic tutorial, Dave. Here is my question, my intel doesn't support vt-x (advanced virtualization technology) but VT-only ( I enabled it in my BIOS). So unless I start GNS3 VM manually without vt-x and connect it with GUI, it won't start by default from GUI because the default startup requires VT-x to be enabled which I don't have on my PC. I tried to install net devices, it says KVM is not available. Is there any solution?

In case you do everything explained here and it still does not work, then you need to disable the hyperV virtualization setting. Since Windows prioritizes the hyperV over VMware and VBox.

I have stop W10 firewall, but it the same, servers summary green, but interfaces doesn't connect each over, even 3 vpcs with a switch (ping work not all the time between each other) and if I ask a router to do dhcp, vpcs take dhcp of wmnet8 not the router. What should I do ?

Some times the vm server doesn't turn green; so we need to disable all VMware's NICs then enable them back. It worked for me.

For whatever reason the web GUI does NOT want to connect to the GNS3 VM server on workstation pro and I am just about out of ideas. The web GUI does start the VM but it always shows as gray in the Server Summary. Does anyone here have any insight or similar problems? I followed this step by step a couple times and keep having the same exact issue. I am running Windows 11 23H2 on a Dell latitude 5500 series. The GNS3 and VM versions are 2.2.47 and VMWare workstation pro version is 17.5.2 things I tried/verified: - made sure GNS3 and GNS3 vm are the same version. - made sure in the GNS3 VM settings that the first net adapter is set to host and second set to NAT. both were enabled in control panel as well and show as connected. - uninstalled and reset App data on both VMware workstation pro and GNS3, and did a fresh install. - had the web GUI working on my local host, verified ping connectivity of the basic topology. - closed the web GUI and proceeded to install the GNS3 VM on workstation pro. - verified that VTx is enabled in my bios and through system information. - check for windows/bios updates, both are up to date. - changed the network adapters in GNS3 VM settings to two completely different ones, went to control panel and disabled/enabled them & restarted the web GUI. - verified on my firewall and AV that no traffic is being restricted. Like I said, the web gui does start the VM and I am even able to ping the IP it gets assigned from my local machine. But for whatever reason the web gui cannot connect to the VM server so I am unable to import qemu binaries. I tried running packet captures on the net adapters for VMWare but it has not really given me much information i can work with. The only thing i can work with right now is my local host server which is limited as I would like to import different vendors' OS to get more comfortable with it. if anyone has any ideas/suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
