Hello sir i'm new to GNS3 but i have an sdn topology that i need to configure and i searched a lot so i 'll try my luck asking you , how do i configure an ip address to a virtual machine , and about adapters i don't know if i should choose hostonly or nat i have 3 vms an odl and an ovs i also don't know how to configure the ovs 's interfaces

Hey, does anyone have below error? "ovs-vsctl: unix:/var/run/openvswitch/db.sock: database connection failed (No such file or directory)" because of this error I can't see "br" interfaces.

??? When you dragged the Open Vswitch to the workspace and the operating system auto installed, Is it pulling it from docker?? Sorry if this is a simpleton question but I am new to the field and learning?

Yes, that is correct. The appliance is pulled from Docker.

can i use the openvswitch with GNS3 VM 1.5.3 ? if yes is it possible to link it to IOS routers , or it will function only with Routers that are hosted on the GNS3VM server as well ? I should not forget to thank you because you are doing great learning series

Thank you Muhamad! Yes, Docker support is available in 1.5.3. The recommendation is to run everything on the GNS3 VM if you are using Windows or Mac OS. This also includes Dynamips routers running IOS. You should however be able to connect OVS to local routers. Let me know if it works for you. The best place to get technical support is the GNS3 community here: gns3.com/community

It kept getting pirated, so he moved it to dropbox. Then, lots of people started having random issues with the .ova files, so he just started pointing people to the premade VMs from each projects developers.

Has anyone received the error below when attempting to add the Open vSwitch Managmenet appliance to the project in gns3 after it has been imported? This is the error I have been receiving after the Open vSwitch appliance has been imported Error while creating node: Docker has returned an error: Cannot connect to host docker:80 ssl:False [Permission denied] Docker is already installed. Can anyone offer a solutions to this error??

The character '0' in the first command line flag, '-0', should be the letter 'O' and not the number zero.

how did you use GNS3 here? did you install docker or just directly installed GNS3 on windows and integrated ovs with GNS3?? apprecaite if anybody answers me

With Windows/MacOS and GNS3, you'd install the GNS3 client GUI in the host OS, import the GNS3-VM into VMware, and then run the docker container (like OVS) in the GNS3-VM. If you run GNS3 in Linux, you can eliminate the need to use the GNS3-VM, and just run the docker container natively (you'll need to install Docker CE first, though).

If anyone is having the following problem in Ubuntu, when trying to open the open vswitch appliance in GNS3: connection refused, ssl:False (permission denied): You have to add yourself to the docker group. Run the following command: sudo usermod -aG docker *username* (Replace *username* with your username of course). Then, you have to logout/login. You should be able to open the open vswitch appliance now.

when i try to add the open v switch it prompts me to install the GNS3 vm, so what should i do? any help would be appreciated

When you try to use Docker containers with GNS3 in Windows/MacOS, it requires you to use the GNS3-VM (preferably in VMware). That's just an integration issue on the GNS3 side. With linux, you can bypass needing the GNS3-VM completely, and just run docker containers natively by installing Docker CE.

i have noticed that the eth0 "the management interface " doesn't have an IP address , how we can connect it to a controller and it doesn't have an ip address to make a socket to listen and update the controller ?
