Thank you for this tutorial. I've been using Personal Finance softwares from 1989 to 2002 trying to figuring out how to use the budget part to my advantage. Unfortunately, the only useful part is to calculate average expense from the past. This hasn't be enough to take control of my finance. As you showed at the end of your tutorial, we can only "discover" at the end if we are or aren't "on budget". Then I've tried to used an envelope system based personal finance system. Which, again, is not enough: using the budget part, I could set aside monthly (because most of my incomes come on a monthly base) amounts representing my average expenses for each category (and more detailed for each subcategory). It's not enough because, with these softwares, I had to set aside manually every amount for each category. But if you know your average past expenses and average past income, then you are able to know what percentage of your income each category represents. Unfortunately, I understand that with Gnucash (and, so far, in any other personal finance software) it is not possible to set aside automatically any amount based on a percentage table. So, to take control of my finances, I've developed a kind of financial planning system which is based on a combination of budget (determining my average past expenses and incomes), planning system (based on what I should set aside for each expense category regarding my expected future expenses which tend to increase due to inflation, por instance) and an envelope system (to know exactly what I can really spend or what I should do to afford the envisioned expense). I've been using a spreadsheet based personal finance system for 11 years but now that I'm more familiar with RDBMS (MySQL and Libreoffice Base), I want to make another step forward implementing the double entry principle (which is quite hard to emulate on my spreadsheet system without having to input the same data in various sheets) and at the same time using budgeting, planning and "enveloping" reducing the input to actual movement and let the planification system set aside automatically the income amounts into the envelops representing my expense categories and, of course, telling me what is left in each envelope so I can focus on decisions to make. Thanks for reading till the end. :)
Thank you for making these videos!. I just found this program and just educated accountant i wanted to keep on learning even when not doing it as job. This helped my budgeting alot!
I watched a couple of videos on creating a (gnucash) budget and this is the better one. Thank you. I just have 1 questions now: does the (gnucash) budget feature support multi currencies? My income (and main bank account) is in a foreign currency and nearly all other expenses are in the local currency. I tried setting up a test budget but could not find a way to handle different currencies (in the budget).
Hey! Thank you for your feedback and the question. I had a look into it and I - too - can't find a way to handle multiple currencies. It seems like GnuCash is just ignoring them when it comes to creating a budget. So other than converting one of the currencies into the other (which I admit is far from handy...) I don't see a possiblity here.
Like the video but I still cannot find how to delete "UNSAVED BOOK " which loads and hides the GNUCASH opening page and ALL the tips I have uninstaled and deleted ALL files associated with GNU but after reinstall GNUCASH still finds this unsaved book ansd if I close it i lose GNUCASH can you help
Hope you can explain transfers at the bottom of the screen. I see a number appears in ( ) when you enter an amount for a credit card set up as a liability. Thanks

Hey Ruud! Glad you found a way to do this and thanks for the link. If you have any recommendations/wishes for further videos, just let me know! Thanks again!
Thanks Test IT, well, if it isn't too much of a trouble for you, I'd like to see how you make an invoice, so with logo, home address etcetera. Thanks in advance!
