@@nemojotun1284 Nope, the description states, that the song lyrics are based on folk and are edited by Kateryna (the singer), like most of their songs. The ESC version is (due to the rules) completely wriotten by her, and is actually a sequel to his version.

I also voted for Italy! It’s so nice reading all these comments from Italians here and Ukrainians under Måneskin video, because Italy gave Ukraine 12 points from the televote and Ukraine gave Italy 12 both from the jury and the televote, the only country to give Italy 24 points! And it makes me so happy that two really strong performance this year in their own languages are recognized by each other’s countries! Love that spirit of Eurovision! And congrats again to Italy! Especially after performing so strong in previous years this was such a deserved win for Italy! Enjoy!

Why this song and Eurovision song are different: "In March, a new version of the song was released with a new music video. Pavlenko noted, that the band struggled to cut the original version of the song to three minutes. So, rather than shortening it, they decided to come up with a "sequel". Pavlenko explained that the original Shum was not written with Eurovision in mind and was intended for their concert tour after the cancelled Eurovision 2020. The purpose of the original track was to recreate the folk ritual at live gigs with their audience. The new version of the track, however, was "adapted" for Eurovision and is based on vesnianka folk songs. In Pavelnko's words, it was intended to have "more positive energy", since the original version of Shum, which is based on the folk ritual, is "a bit tense"." (source: wikipedia). they made this song first and shot the music video with a phone because of the pandemic and wanted to make a funny video with the dance and costumes. then they changed the whole song because of ESC rules and turned it into an even more badass version and still used these costumes as a tribute in the official music video, they are so wholesome, clever, talented, amazing. I'm glad they are getting the praise they deserve thanks to ESC. I'm a new fan and already crazy about them. love you Go_A!!

This is very interesting, thanks! I was literally wondering why they didn't use this version during the contest, do you know the reason? Did they have to remake the video because of quality, or was it the song itself? I'm so glad ESC made me discover this band, (their entry in 2020 was so good but Shum is definitely a favorite) the more I learn about them the more I love them!

@@marinen8719 ESC rules say lyrics should be original, song in this video is a song that already exists, it's a traditional Ukrainian song. So they decided to make a "sequel" of this one, used similar lyrics to create a new original one.

What is happening in Ukraine right now is just unacceptable. UE should have sanctioned Russia right after the invasion of Crimea to prevent them from going further. I’ll probably say something stupid or exaggerated but I truly believe that Eurovision has had a very important role (at least for eurofans) in getting to know better the Ukrainian culture. Ukraine has brought quality almost every time in the last few years, but Jamala and especially Go_A really raised the bar. As much as I loved seeing my country win in 2021, I think that Shum should have won or at least second place. I hope Kateryna, Taras, Ihor and Ivan are safe as well as every single Ukrainian. I’m Italian and I love Måneskin, so happy they won Eurovision, but I loved this song so much too, even if this version is different from the Eurovision one. Both versions are so good! It was a beautiful discovery.

This is a sequel to the one played in Eurovision. At first it was a one long song but they had to cut it to abide to Eurovision standard of a 3 minute song and then this part eventually turned out to be a "sequel". ☺️

⁠@It’s the other way around. This was their original version of the song, but they ended up having to rework it for two reasons: 1. The length, which was one minute too long (although they originally had not intended to put “Shum” forward as a Eurovision song), and 2. Some of the lyrics from this version were borrowed from existing Ukrainian folk songs, which is against Eurovision rules. The version they released for Eurovision is the “sequel” version. They did end up taking some of the better elements of this version and improving on those for the newer version, and it resulted in a pretty great song, in my opinion. The primary thing that kept “Shum” from winning in 2021 was that the field in the final was very stacked and due to the one-year delay in Eurovision taking place again, a bunch of countries brought their A-game and it made for a very competitive final. Ukraine was a favorite, but so were France, Italy, Switzerland, Malta, Iceland, and I think at one point Greece. It made for a fun final to watch.

When I thought I couldn’t fall more in love with Ukraine and its culture, Go_A released this amazing song. Someone said only Ukrainians can mix old and new so effortlessly. I feel like I’ve watched a billion videos of people reacting to Shum and dancing to Shum and I love Ukrainians being so proud of Go_A and their wonderful culture. I must visit Ukraine very soon!

„Плетений шум” - цікава гуртова гра, бо це заразом і танок. Всі беруться за руки і стають півколом. Середня пара підносить з’єднані руки догори - це „ворота”. I really like how Go_A connects folklore with the present, not only with the song, but also with the video, in which the people are wearing something that could be assumed to be virus-protective gear. Plus I'm given to understand that the "Shum" (literally Noise) was a game/dance to summon the spring season. "Shum" means God of Forest. It's Ancient song. In modern Ukrainian "shum" means noise, and forest -"lis". That is why there is misunderstanding in literal translation. And now compare with "shuma" in Croatian and Serbian languages which means forest. Ukrainian language has about 20 common features with these Slavic languages.
