What happens to the PET waste that ISN"T recycled? I'm extremely interested in their waste and what can be done with the "undesirable" materials. Thanks for your response. -Eric C

Good thing about PET is it’s the least toxic and more stable of the plastics type. That’s why they’re use for food container and into your Polyester clothes. It is the most recyclable plastics. As long they are collected and stored properly, they can easily recycled later with minimal degradation.

Interesting, most say plastic can only be down cycled. Only glass and paper/cardboard is recycled back to same new product, some metals also.

The First World can do closed loop recycling of plastic, but with some plastics more than others. Where it can be done and is done is because the First World has the brains, the investment capital, the advanced technology, and government under-writing. PET is foremost in plastic recycling, but beverage company and petrochemical company resistance to bottle-to-bottle recycling has had to be overcome. But there is beginning to be considerable volumes of post-consumer PET going into beverage container production.

Paperboard is usually downcycled too. As fibers break down, they become weaker, so a virgin fiber corrugated box might turn into a cereal box which might turn into newspaper, etc.

@Dawkinsbulldog You also can't mix colors if you recycle plastic because then you will get a mix of color instand on the color that you wanted The blue flakes are crystalized PET, which happens when the PET is heated do a temperature that isn't high enough to make it melt (and apparently even when at the correct temperature? but if you check the pellets, they are all transparents, so i guess cooling them decrystalize them) I don't remember exactly how they do it, but if i remember correctly it has to do with chemicals. But yeah, they do ahve to remove the caps one way or another, not only because of colors, but also because it's not the same plastic. I think it's PP, but i'm not 100% sure. And mixing differents plastics is even worse than mixing colors
@serzaknightcore5208

@Dawkinsbulldog It's not really that simple, you can't really burn plastic in rich country because it pollute the local air, and people don't really like breathing CO². It's moving the problem elsewhere, but the elsewhere don't care about the problem, so it's technically a win-win And while theorically (almost) everything can be recycled, pratically it's not really possible. Trash found in nature are often very dirty, full of different crap that may or may not be easy to remove. And sometimes it's not even worth it to recycle it (sprite bottle are often not recycled, because it's just not worth it to shut the production lines, put all the colored bottles, start everything again, then stop everything back when you want to put normal bottles again, unless you have a really big storage) And there is also the fact that sometimes cities are just dumb I live near a middle-sized city (it's not that big, but it's not a countryside city), and they do burn trash. But instand of doing the logical thing and producing electricity with it, they are using it to heat houses. Directly. They are building pipes of around 10km and destroying new roads to heat home instand of directly heating water to produce electricity. Though be careful about ecologics people (especially politics. Well i mean for politics it's everyone, but especially them), because while their ideas usually make sense on paper, they often being the poorest choice possible. Like they often want nuclear powerplant to be shut down in favor of green energy, that's what germany did, they are the biggest co² emitters of europe because they reopened coal central. Sending trash to other country is the easiest, but not all countries/cities do that. When they do it's often because it's either trash found in nature (and as i said, good luck recycling them), or trash that aren't as simple as "heat it up and it's brand new" (for example PLA need to be mixed with 50% new PLA to be recycled, because if you do 100% reycled PLA you get prints that are even weaker than PET). And i would also point out that upcycling, depending on how you got the trash, might not actually be better, as sometimes you turn something that could have been recycled to be used again into something that is pure decoration and won't be recycled after

This is such a scam at least in America. These recycling companies receive free raw materials. Tell me what other companies get this material free. Then they sell it to manufacturers. Home owners pay for trash pickup and then manufacturers pay for the raw pellets. Shouldn't Trash Pickup be free if they are getting this free presorted materials? There should be compensation.

Cool. It seems to work on coloured plastic, too, which is something that, according to the news this morning, we can't do in NZ. So they go to landfill. Whatever happened to Kiwi ingenuity?
@serzaknightcore5208
@serzaknightcore5208 4 месяца назад
It sorts coloured plastic with non-coloured plastic, but you can't just mix coloured plastic with non-coloured plastic (else you will get a mix of the two). You can recycle coloured plastic, it's exactly the same process, what should absolutely not be done is mixing different colored plastic. Also most industries need non-coloured plastic, and then they color it themselves.

I have been inserting plastic bottle caps into COLORED HDPE bottles before cashing those colored HDPE bottles in to container deposit. Now I am worried. Some of those caps might be PP rather than HDPE. Anyway, frig it, because we can thank Christ for the multi-layered and hi-tech sorting and separation processes such as that referred to in this video.

They chopped down trees to burn in their homes for heat. Ceilings were mayby 2 m (6 ft) high to conserve heat. Took an hour to ride the buggy into town via horse drawn carriage. Things are different and we like our bottles. They're cheap, easy to make and don't break during transport to your store. The list goes on...
