It's been a long time since anyone on Australian TV was interviewed with a beer and a cigarette in their hand. With respect to living in Brisbane during the 1980's, it was actually pretty good. You tended to make the best of what you had.
Go Betweens were so great. with Lindy and Amanda they produced LIBERTY BELLE and 16 LOVERS LANE : 2 absolute classics. And even without the 2 ladies they did another 3 georgeous LP's. OCEANS APART being the standout !
When i look back at the 60s 70s 80s Australia was awash with great bands, truely great bands. I think that was the main reason so many were overlooked and didn't reach the success and acclaim they should've, the gobys being probably the most obvious of all.
If you`re a person in a foreign country, always say you love it. If you`re home, say you love it, too. Forster did a radio interview in the UK in 1996, and he said that his home was there. Pragmatism rules, whatever you do in life. As long as you keep your soul, it` ok.
Lindy was not always underrated. She was voted Australia's best drummer at one point. Miss you, Lindy! Let's catch up when I vist Brisbania. I'll identify myself when I get back :-)
A naive but fabulous age before the Internet and on the cusp of jaded cynicism. I'm sure Lindy,Robert and Andrew regret much but cherish more. Awkward but endearing.
