Happy Passover! Chag Sameyach! This colorful rendition of Go Down Moses, originally written in the late 1800's by American slaves and found in the songbook, "The Song of the Contrabands" is sung by native Israeli Baht Rivka Whitten. Special thanks to the Klein family, and the amazingly talented Gabriel and Gideon Klein on Keys and Percussion.

This song is bout Herreit Tubman who led quite a lot of slaves from captivity here in the states that she was called Moses

WOW! Way to APPROPRIATE the Culture and Works of the People who were enslaved in the U.S. Also - it was not written by American slaves. My ancestors were not Americans. If you honestly look over here now you'll see that WE still aren't treated as Americans. How often are WE told 'go back where you came from'? This 'colorful RENDITION' is an insult. You take something you don't understand and use it to get fame and make a profit. By the way - why was this person looking through a book of OUR old Works to find material? Did she think we would not notice the theft because the song is so old or maybe because it is now being used far away in Israel? Bc I was referencing tubman the woman who the song was being sung bout in that she freed slot of enslaved blacks via the underground railroad and was called `moses` bc of her daring rescue missions and putting her life at risk in the war that followed aswell (cant remember the name of the war rn tho)

How on earth could someone possibly me offended by a Jewish woman singing this song? The whole reason they called Harriet Tubman Moses was because they believed in the Bible and could relate to the struggles of the Hebrew people. The Jews were enslaved thousands of years before this song was even written, so there's no reason why an Israeli woman can't sing a song about her own ancestors. For Christ's sake, we need to stop sowing division among the bretheren. This is the kind of behavior that makes the world want to have no part in the Gospel. Just my humble opinion, but it's so disheartening to read of such ignorance. @nuttyworldrut8755

@abbyfultz1001 How could anyone be offended . . ? Simple. As I said, it's cultural appropriation and it is deeply profound to us. Maybe the question you should ask is why you, yourself . . . don't understand that. Concerning Harriet Tubman, please don't try to tell me who she was - I knew who she was before you were born. I know WHEN this song was composed and I know WHY it was composed. As far as the Gospel is concerned, the world doesn't want to have any part in the Gospel because they are 'of the world', . . . Or didn't you know that The Messiah spoke about that? No one is sowing division where there is so VERY little unison. Certain and many people are very outspoken about how they feel about us - yet you choose to pretend to be ignorant of that fact. And as for IGNORANCE, you shouldn't attribute my post as such when I know more about the history of my ancestors than you do. That's not just my humble opinion - it's a FACT. And by the way, I guess you came here long after the posts that I responded to were removed - the ones where people posted comments about the way 'Black People' sang the song and how this was soooo much better than that. Or maybe you saw those posts and thought that they were just fine and dandy. Don't respond back - just do some re-evaluation. If not, that's fine.
