John fishes his local Norfolk waters and is joined by Richard Walker to introudce the section on Chub. Some useful tips on tackle precede a demonstration on how to set yourself up in a swim, and use a simple yet effective method to catch some heathly specimens. The masterclass continues with John quietly creeping along by some small stream in search of some big Roach. Using his favourite method he soon finds where they are. The class ends with Dick Walker discussing Pike and John rowing his boat across the Broads on a chilly winters' day in search of a big challenge. His patience is rewarded, the result is absolutely magic.

Ahhh back when angler's taught you something instead of trying to sell you something. We miss you John!

Totally different now, you wouldn't creep up to your commercial peg like that! They would all burst out laughing at such antics, be laughed off the pond! No, You'd pull up behind your peg, leap out, holler to your pals on the far bank, have a 10 minutes shouting n bawling across the pond, open all the car doors n boot, dump all your tackle on the peg making as much noise as possible, slam all car doors, hey up, mobiles ringing! Another shouting n bawling session, followed by more bawling to your pals, tackle up, cast in n start yanking carp out one after the other, whilst chatting on social media. Keep it, keep it. I've fished like John for over 30 years, rucksack n a 13ft light rod, heaviest thing in my bag? My flask......when it's full.

God Bless John, I remember seeing him on the door of the N. E. C angling show , he was greeting people as they walked in with a hand shake and a smile. When I walked out about 5 hrs later he was still there shaking hands with everyone who walked in 👍 Poor bloke looked absolutely exhausted , but was still chatting and smiling with his fans 👍

A simpler and a much, much better time. Stale bread soaked in the landing net to use as groundbait, a little seat, old Mitchell reel and a rod as thick as a broom handle, but pre Otters and Cormorants wasnt river fishing glorious.

i remember many years ago i made some mack and cheese there was a bit left at the end so i added some bread and made a paste with it the fish loved it and i even caught a carp on a cornflake once but it was hard to hook the cornflake on the hook lol i tried all sorts even those big chunks of dog food you got from either Aldi or Liddle in the big tins the carp ate them as well

Dick Walker was wrong about the chub. This fish is not shy at all. Feed it and it will come right to your feet. The most obliging fish in the river.

proper fishing none of this set up stick a bite indicator on and go for a kip while you wait to see if a fish can be bothered to bite we used night lite floats the ones you crack and shake and get about 6 hours light from before they faded too much to see and when you did get a bite you did not need to run 200 yards to pick up your rod you was there waiting
