To me Redman: Angry, unhinged big brother with bad attitude Godman: stoic, straight-face middle brother who takes everything seriously Greenman: funny, chaotic and goofy little brother
I'm glad that shows like Godman, Greenman, Redman, Ultra Fight and Ultra Super Fight exist; there's something genuinely charming about how they operated on some of the tiniest budgets in Tokusatsu (often barely above the budgets of some fan films!) and still gave it their best shot at creating something new. As a fun fact, and it's one that's honestly rather ironic considering the state a lot of the movie monster suits in _Greenman_ were, Greenman's suit in the 2008 special is the _exact same_ suit from the original series! Somehow, it had survived over three decades sitting in a warehouse somewhere and hadn't degraded to the point of being unusable, and only a few minor repairs had to be made to have it ready to go. Pretty cool stuff!
Your experience is completely relatable to my own; whew, Godman was rough. And while Greenman was certainly formulaic to kingdom come, it was a much needed oasis after Godman. There's definitely a fun microbudget charm to Greenman that is appealing and worthwhile.
Can you imagine being the guy in the Gorosaurus suit? That thing looks like you'd have to peel it off. Also that Minilla suit is absolutely not the original. The original was designed specifically to fit Masao Fukazawa ("Little Man Machan"), but this one is almost as tall as Greenman. And the fact that it's new makes it look even worse.
7:13 omg that picture looks beautiful looks like one if those paintings with deep meanings nah i want fan art of this now damn that would also look beautiful as an album cover
@@christopherwall2121 now I'm just imagining a monster island buddies episode where gorosaurus tries to sing his solo but gets interrupted by someone and the hole show ruined and then he says look what happened
Having seen some episodes of Megaloman on Internet Archive, it's actually pretty interesting. Heck the military in one episode actually saves Megaloman as he struggles to beat a monster that prevented him from using his fists by firing a beam from its eyes that I guess nullified the power of the Megalon Bracelets.
Since the video was rendered, I've actually been going through the series RAW and I'm really enjoying it. Already halfway through. Someone needs to raise the funds to sub it already.
Great reviews and deep dives into their history. I've never watched these but have seen some clips of the fights with the Toho kaiju. I like how the main villains from Green-man look like some of the Devilman demons. Gabara being able to keep children imprisoned in his stomach reminds me of decompose one of the main villains from that 80s cartoon inhumanoids. Lol at the skeleton-man from Red-Man exploding into a smaller one. The 2008 meetup special does look enjoyable too
I love how many of the monsters in these shows look like bootleg Wild Things. Like, I'm pretty sure I saw one that looks like he leapt right out of Maurice Sendak's illustrations. Also, you didn't mention it in the review, but I am pretty sure the original Owlbear is in this show.
@@cheepmovprod And that's no accident. Totsaurus was one of the monsters in that very same set of bootleg monster toys that also gave us the bulette and the rust eater
The funniest thing about it is that it's one of the few surviving images from a Godzilla vs. Gamera stage show. One of the few glimpses we get of it and it's Gorosaurus looking like he's about to get abducted by aliens.
I choose to believe the Greenman Minilla (and other returning monsters can be explained this way to) as an evil duplicate created by Moah and not the boi himself
Green man to red man Green man:why did you made me do this you are killing innocent kaiju left and right most of who had had children and you destoryed the trust everyone had for you think red man think think what will you have when you killed every kaiju Red man:peace i would have died in peace that i avenged my family Green man:cries flys away
You had me at, "It's basically a sequel to the Book of Revelations" 😄 Okay, seriously though, that's amazing to me that Greenman fights "Satan" and Godman - GOD man - doesn't. This was fun to learn about. Thanks for the quality Ultra Gaiden content
I consider these part of the Godzilla Universe due to the Kaiju appearances. I would like to think Megaloman does as well and that we could see all the Toho heroes team up.
I did watch the Godman series around march since I have all 4 dvds and yeah I will admit back then I hated it because of the episodes that drag on for SOOOO LOOOOOONG but like I said it does start to get better before it peaks with the 2008 movie.
I really REALLY love these shows, they have a budget of $3 but they make for good popcorn tv, or just something you put on the back Also Tonchiki(the side villain in Greenman is a real one) he shouldn't be in hell
A random thing I always wondered if any of the original kaiju were ever properly copyrighted. Since they were very small shows, I assume they didn't, which means they have a higher chance of appearing in something like the Monsterverse compared to someone like Anguirus and Gigan 💀
Considering these shows were being marketed to small children, I'd imagine they would've needed to be advertised in magazines or given toys which suggests that someone at Toho would have thought to file the paperwork for each character and have ownership. Can't imagine the rights would be very expensive, so Legendary has the opportunity to make the funniest deep cut right now by having Kong fight Shilarji in the next movie.
Some fansubbers don't speak the language and rely on DeepL/Google translations of existing Japanese subtitles. I'm okay with it to some degree if the show is so simple that it doesn't require the best knowledge of Japanese to get a gist of the words being spoken, but I've seen some pretty iffy ones so it can definitely be done poorly. Just makes me wish a real person went in and subtitled it instead, especially if there's a language-specific joke or pun that gets lost in translation that a real human being can figure out the English equivalent for.
I'm currently searching all over the internet to find both of these shows in their entirety, can someone please help me out? I've searched every toku site i could possibly find but had no luck. Even internet archive only has a few episodes. I'm doing a showa godzilla watch through and want to watch these for that, if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
