Cool that they can show feature films now. But sucks that the old film projector is gone. 15/70mm IMAX film is the highest quality format around. A shame it's so cost prohibitive.
Common misconception to think the 70mm to laser projector system for Omnimax dome theaters is a downgrade. 70mm is the best quality for a normal sized movie screen, but the dome theater uses a fisheye lens which stretches out the 70mm projection to fit the larger curved screen and it ends up having a worse quality pixel density compared to the new digital laser projection system they have now installed.
@@DolanAndGoobyFTWhow so? A 70mm imax / kodak film has far more inherent resolution than any 4k/8k cinema camera of today. That's a fact. I don't understand how a lens will work differently on 1 format than other.
Reformatting existing movies to work in this spherical screen looks like crap, it just doesn’t work. The further away anything is from the center of the screen, the more distorted it gets. Films need to be shot with this in mind and with the proper equipment to not create this effect which they aren’t. The only ones that really pull it off are the movies made specifically for this type of experience like the Hubble movie.
