Go-Kart Kit Build - Orange Krate Clone

Like you two, my son and I started out building/driving go karts. Today we race a 500 WHP road track car, and still are doing it together. The fun never stops, it just gets more expensive. But it's worth every penny.

I remember my childhood gokart. It was the Dingo. Met an unfortunate demise after the throttle cable broke and my friends and I decided to rig it with mechanics wire. Well, one of my friends hit the kill switch and when we went to start it up again, the throttle was stuck wide open. It took off with no driver and went up a set of steps, up a hill, did a U-turn and slammed into a pole full speed. The front end was demolished and beyond repair. Had some great times on that one. Great video btw!

It was always my dream to own one of these since when i was a kid all I could do was just look at them never had the money to buy. Looks so cool.

I just watched the orange crate build video. It was really cool seeing father and son work together and have fun together. I wanna build one too.

love this, I'm 50 now , but did I wear out some go carts in my day? you bet I did, nothing more fun for a kid than a go cart. much better than video games for sure!!!!

Love this video, I had an orange cratein 1981, I dreamed of it in the catalogue for years and then I saw one for sale down the road and my dad got it for me, I lived for that kart and even restored it when I was 15 a few years later,,, Thanks JOHN MERLINO!

I'm 53 years old... In the late 70s my Dad bought me a used single seat go cart with a blown engine... He took the 3 1/2 hp briggs off the garden tiller..installed a new clutch, and I was riding that evening... I remember had scrubber breaks and single wheel drive... I really loved it!!!!

Etch primer gives your paint the best adhesion possible just thought I would pass that along and a disc brake is much better for stopping than shoe type great video

Great video and fantastic to see father and son doing this together. It inspires me to do the same together with my son. Think it is so important to make things and have real fun outside instead of the messing around on these stupid smartphones whole day. Keep up the good job!!!

Just found your channel via Red Beard's Garage! Watched this video then Subscribed. I'm 59 years old and built over 50 mini bikes back in the early 70's, but never a gocart. This was a great flashback.

Oh I hope they start making those kits! When I was a kid my father brother and I redid a sears orange crate love that go kart should probably put it back to as stock as possible someday.

It’s great to see go karts back on the road again a father and son project my brothers and neighbors would take a brigg’s and Stratton from a edger..and race them in the alley in the 60’s

I did not know how a go kart worked and was searching for HOURS on how they work. I got to know how the individual parts functioned (from KartFab)but did not know a good way to put them together. Plus, KartFab only showed a dead axel kart and charged $20 for a Live Axle Go Kart plans. This Video Really Helped. Thanks! Also I just noticed its 2016 and its 2020 for me and I found it fascinating that this sort of stuff existed in the 80s. I dunno, maybe its just me being a GenZ. Anyways. Thanks for the Video! Helped out a lot! Edit: I just realised I have a ton of homework and I have been watching you videos instead of doing it. Welp!

Love u take time to do go kart projects with ur son. Alot of men nowa days dont. My son and i built one together. Now hes 16 and we built a even bigfer go kart. A VW with a 2275cc motor. Not many V8s can out run it the quarter. Nice job u two!!

The rotisserie is a great idea

Looks like I'm gonna order one of these frames when they come available at the end of next month. If the unpainted frame images on Go power sports website is to be the frame that is sold, it is different than the frame you have made here. It appears to be where the steering wheel brace attaches to seat brace. Not a big deal. I noticed this while trying to learn how to weld frame together. Technically we can't say the frame is a true replica of the original manufactures design.

was watching and realized that my gokart is an American express even has stock stickers but a little rust still rides and looks nice though predator 212cc mounts right up..

just a question because I'm building a go cart. I noticed your spindle bracket s are 90°, does that effect steering? what about camber or caster.

I think there should be one spring under and one spring over front mount of the wheel. But the original doesn't have it. But I think it should he better ☺

Just saw it has a Jan 2018 date on GoPowerSports, is it the standard length or the XL? I'm just under 5'10" with 34" legs so it's easy to get crammed in something short.

I would've moded the motor with a mikuni carburetor, different exhaust, diff axle, and a fuel pump so you can put the tank somewhere else and maybe even a 5 speed 420 semi auto

My predator 212 wouldn’t even move my go kart. I don’t understand? Same torque converter and everything. I even disconnected the governor. Any tips?

The new one doesn't have any negative camber.

Would be great if kit came with everything welded, since not everyone has a welder or knows how to use one.

go get yourself a cheap automotive spray gun from harbor freight, they work astonishingly well and are extremely cheap

Kids did a better job than some other better non RU-vidrs on building a kart.

You know they sell a trigger that hooks to the can that makes it just like a spray gun and it only cost like five bucks

I see some of the karts in the background have the 5-spoke Astro wheels, do any of them run a live axle? If so, how did you attach the Astro wheel to the live axle? I cannot find any live axle hubs with the correct 5-bolt pattern.
