watch body patterns and specific movement and cues, each player has a specific style they use that they’ve mastered, be more passive against those you don’t know their potential, play on their weaknesses, as well as get low and a good sense of balance, open your body up to the side you want them to go to, and always lead with your weak foot
Push them onto your weak foot and if they go that way it’s an easy tackle but if they go the other way switch your hips. Always have your hand out and be on your toes
reckon its a bit of knowing when to go in and when not to. So when they take a bad touch, or their in an uncomfortable position, or u know exactly where they are about to go or smth, also a lot of the time, ur spacing is off, so they canjust take a wide touch and get past you.
Get that arm up when defending, use it as your quide for distance. as soon as they shift that ball get that arm across and then body. the arm should be up around rib cage height. also feint in to tackle to try make them make their move. but dont do the same thing twice, if you feint once then the next time go straight for the ball. Dont let the attacker know your defensive game.
- hand to hip defensively - start lighter on feet anticipating the change in direction (we know it’s coming 1v1) - BIGGEST thing … if you’re going to bite on what looks like a heavy touch, don’t bite as hard as i watch you do unless you’re absolutely positive you’re going to win the ball. Only go all in like that if you know you’re winning it. - Someone else mentioned it but feint the tackle more. Draw the move out of them. You dictate the pace not them.
I would say try to keep them at an angle and if they have a weak foot try to force them to use it. Another thing is always keep your hips in a position to be turning and just stay in front of them without stabbing if you can and it might force a mistake. Also if they allow it get your body in there use an arm to distance and measure that distance or even get in front of the attack and the ball if they try to out pace you
contain the opponent until they take a big touch, stick your hand out on their chest to block them and put your body in front of them. if you're in a small 1v1, chances of being pace abused is less likely, so this works better. if in a game, i'd say dont tackle early bcuz i myself am also imrpivng in that area
