Father Michael O'Connor's homily from Mass on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, MS www.olgchurch.net/ / ourladyofthegulfchurchbsl
Wonderful homily regarding and encouraging confession!!! Very few priests are that willing to provide continuing formation about the whys of our Faith and Sacraments. Our Lady of the Gulf is one of the parishes that I hope to make a pilgrimage to once the pandemic finally abates. God's Blessings to all of you from Northwest Indiana!
There was a Sam Lusco where I live and I was friends with a Clint Lusco. The Holy Spirit directed me to Fr. Mike. I don’t like the preacher at our church. Great guy but his preaching style is very odd.
Fr. MICHAEL I THINK ALL OF THE MICHAELS have a special gift of homilies and talks .It is so wonderful to get touching our souls to be saints All the priests on you tube are so gifted helping millions.
I haven't been to church or confession since my son 33 committed suicide 5 years ago - I need to get back to church and I'm ashamed to go to confession as I have moved to a new area and don't know the priest - I will go back and I hope my sins will be forgiven - I'm 62 and was baptized Catholic about 13 years ago
@Mick King, I am praying for you. Going to confession isn't always easy. I assure you that going after to confession, you'll find the heavy burden lifted off of you. Understand, that you're speaking to God through the priest and there's nothing that you can say that will disturb the priest. This priest is so spot on about confession. I go almost on a monthly basis. I will not let the devil keep me from confession, as he hates it when someone repents of their sins.
I’m so pleased to hear you say with pride that you are the “Real Deal”. I’m proud of you because it is SUPREME to be serving Our Lord with your life. Thank you and God Bless you! You’re an inspiration!💕
It's the devil doing this to you. Just remember that God as forgiven you. I deal with this issue, but I remember that I am forgiven and I focus on God.
He means you pray to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to bless or heal you with the holy water. I do this almost daily and I am not Catholic! You can receive holy water from any Catholic Church! It’s a blessing!!
Why do I get more out of me scrutinizing myself with my walk?Than I do from confessing in a booth. To be honest, I think their needs to be a bit more direction from a priest in confession, to get out of it, what is needed to come to a full acknowledgment whether the person needs to confess and bring that gift they offer, or lay their gift of confession down in the private booth, and make amends before returning.
Think these are some pertinent Bible verses related to this subject and is provided to those who want a quote from the Bible to support sacrament if confession. My understanding is Jesus created the sacrament of confession when he gave this authority to his disciples. I think the problem with confession is one has to say you will not do the sin anymore. The person wants a divorce, an abortion etc and the act is a sin. The easiest way is to go directly to God to remove the church from the process. Protestants allow this process. John 20. 21Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.” 22When He had said this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you withhold forgiveness from anyone, it is withheld.” Matthew 16:19. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Do you think you are smarter than this Priest I don’t think so.Let finish that discussion now is lent and we are preparing for Jesus Birthday.Peach among your people we don need your comments,God Bless You.
I heard a Priest say he has many Protestants come to his confessions! You don’t have to be Catholic to go to confession, but I understand you don’t get the absolute if you’re not one.
Think priest should cover Jesus creation of the church more often. Biblical authority for creation and power of the church concerning the forgiveness of sins. Matthew 16 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”…
Stop lying to people. There is no requirement to confess sins to a human priest. Jesus is the high priest. You are putting yourself in the place of Jesus. Going to confession is not grace. The forgiveness of Jesus is grace. The idea that an earthly priest who sins would give someone penance for their sins is heretical. An earthly priest can’t declare someone forgiven. Repent for this sin and stop leading people astray.
