Great tips, but I disagree with the description of your video. When you say that waking up at 5 AM is "unrealistic" or "toxic." I, for one, am one of those persons who gets up at 5 am (sharp, no snooze button needed). This is my favorite part of the day because it's so silent out there, everyone's sleeping, and I find myself more focused on my work. I naturally get up early, not because other productivity gurus suggest I should get up at this time, but because I have always been an earlier riser. So to me, there's nothing toxic or unrealistic about getting up at 5 am. If we flip things, we could say that staying up late to finish an illustration project is toxic, but I know some people are simply night owls. In general, I'm not a fan of using the word toxic.
The tip about making goals 'smart' is a really good one. But I use the R for relevant instead of realistic, to make sure individual goals are relevant to my overall objective (I kind of merge realistic into achievable). I've watched many goals videos over the last few weeks and every time someone said they have a goal of reaching X followers or Y subscribers my response has been 'nooooo, that's not a goal'. My biggest challenge in achieving my goals is still procrastination though - it's a constant struggle because I waste time then get really annoyed at myself for wasting time.
Kendylllllllll thank you!! I really needed to hear this!! I’m definitely one of those people who had a hard time achieving my “goals”. This is super helpful ♥️♥️♥️♥️💫
Hey Kendyll! Glad to see you back on RU-vid :) Hope you’re well. I’m very interested in seeing the rest of this productivity series. I have a bit of a weird question, but could you talk about how do you include your rest time in your schedule (if you do) and manage to fully recharge without blaming yourself? It’s the balance I find the most challenging to tackle. Thank you so much! Happy New Year to you too.
Hi Kendyll, Happy New Year. Thank you for this video/series. I’m really bad at keeping goals and ended up not having them. It probably was the fact that I wasn’t specific, didn’t realize that aspirations should not be listed as goal and most of all, making excuses ( I still do that, a lot) . This video is very helpful! I will follow your tips and make my goals list more achievable. Thank you 💕
Kendyll!! THANK YOU as I love your videos!!^____^ I have a short goal for myself which is to draw more male characters since I tend to draw more female characters%…Also finish planning and making my own comics (one shots)…^____________~
Non toxic productivity is exactly what I was looking for right now! I got really stifled by my goal setting last year and kept setting the same ones and not achieving them. The difference between aspirations and goals is such a good insight, thank you.
YES! I can so relate to that. Getting stifled by your own goal setting is so hard. And it makes it even harder if you're just reading/listening to conventional productivity stuff that focuses on having the master plan and just forcing yourself to get things done. Keep on going and pull those nice achievable goals from your big aspirations, and you will get there!👍🏻☺️
I have a problem with productivity, but I'm finding that I need to take things in steps instead of trying to do everything all at once. I was behind in my day job and I realized I screwed myself by not just doing 1-2 illustrations a day. It would've been done already if I had just done that haha.
TOTALLY. I relate to this so hard. I have to stop myself from feeling bad about all the things I could have done if I had just started with smaller goals, but it's a lesson I had to learn. Hang in there and keep going, even if it's slower than you want it to be.💕
Awesome video! My question is, do you ever have lazy days? If so, do you just work anyways or do you ever just decide to take a day to sleep in until noon or veg out etc?
This was such a great conversation. Thank you for you honest relatable content. I can’t wait for the next section. I’m finding that I’ve learned to set actual goals not aspirations over the years, but I still seem to fumble and get frustrated when breaking my goal down into bite size pieces. I usually miss that the goal was too large until I’m already not on speaking terms with it. I’m really looking forward to the next section. Seeing how other Map out a path with small actions while keeping the big picture is really helpful. It feels like such a delicate juggle when you’re starting out.
What a great video!! I've long realized that I have many, and I mean many, artistic aspirations/dreams. So many in fact that I know most of those will not be attainable unless I lived to be 300 years old lol. So I just let myself dream without the pressure of making anything of them and let them float through my mind then at some point some actually float down and become an actualized goal.
Thanks for sharing, Francine!! I totally get what you mean. It's the double edged sword blessing/curse of creativity! Pinning down one of your idea butterflies without killing it is so tricky. I like the idea of just letting them be sometimes and waiting for one to flit down on its own and make itself known to you. I think we are all motivated by different things, so whatever works in keeping you going and actually creating!👍🏻👍🏻💕
