* Keeper - claim the ball yourself * Away - defender gets the ball away, keeper drop back to the line * Step - close down a shot * Hold or drop - defenders backup and slow down the counter attack * Home - play ball back to keeper, slow down tempo
Super important skill as a goalkeeper. I have played in several games where I didn't have to make any big saves because I would keep my defense in shape. Being a goalkeeper you are in a very unique position where you see the entire game and it's your responsibility to tell off your defenders if needed to ensure they are always in the right positions and if a striker makes a run in a channel, it's pushed outwards.
Freshman year (2 yrs ago) my defense was stupidly good, like idk but they just new where to be and when, I didn’t ever have to say anything and I got used to that, last season they kinda sucked at that, a bit of a different team and shit it screwed me up I wasn’t ready and this season I needa learn how to communicate again 😭
Great video. The best out of the 8 communication videos I’ve watched on RU-vid. You cover more commands; how and when they’re used; and you show clips to give better understanding. Thank you for helping me help my 13 year old keeper daughter.
I use all of the ones you mentioned, and they are all super useful, especially in some teams maybe supported by a commanding tone, loud and clear :) great video!
I think another command you can say is telling the defenders to mark from corners and throw ins in dangerous areas, and telling defenders if there’s an attacker running in behind
Thank you so much for this video one thing I struggle with as a young keeper is not communicating but saying the right things so I usually end up saying a bunch of stupid stuff that know one listens too so thank you
Great video, I’ve been playing goalkeeper for now 5 years(which isn’t that much) but I have good goalkeeping skills(for my age and my league ofc) but communication has always been a problem and this video helped me a lot, i am in quarantine but I’ve been practicing my communication. Again, thank you for the video 🙏
very helpful as a goalkeeper myself. i will make sure my teammates know what i’m talking about on the field so they wouldn’t be as confused on what i’m talking about
What's the command I should shout when I am not claiming the ball but I would punch it? I have a huge tendency to punch crosses instead of catching them. I still shout "KEEPER!" when I claim through balls or long high passes, though
I swear to god I called for my defender to shield in my last game and this man just started jogging back then his position and I had to basically out dribble the striker so I could get the ball in the box and pick it up
The knuckleheads I play with almost never want to follow the step command. They stand there like statues and give the attackers acres of space to wind up their shots from distance. Makes it guessing game of pick the 4 corners out.
Thank you very much, I am a youth keeper, 11 In July. And Tryouts are starting for where I'm going for, Florida Premier FC. This is gonna really help me at tryouts. If I make I'll edit this comment.
I have a video on the fundamentals of how to dive. You are going to need to prefect that technique before learning full extension dives. But I will make a full extension video in the future.
