Goan Patoli / Goan Patolyo
For The Filling
1 freshly grated coconut
1/2 cup sugarcane jaggery / palm jaggery
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
Pinch of salt
For The Coating
1/4 kg rice flour
Salt
1 1/4 cup hot water
1 tbsp ghee [ clarified butter]
Water as required to knead a soft dough
Turmeric leaves about 10-12 . Cut the ends of the leaves to fit the size of your steaming plate. Wash the leaves and pat them dry.
Method
For The Filling
Put the grated coconut, jaggery and a pinch of salt and sauté continuously on a medium high heat till the mixture comes together as shown in the video. Add the cardamom powder , mix well and keep the mixture aside to cool.
For The Coating
Heat the water in a pan, add the salt and the ghee and bring it to a boil. Turn off the heat and add the rice flour . Mix well and cover for about 2-3 minutes.
Now using water, knead a dough which is slightly softer than chapati dough.
Assemble as shown in the video and steam the patolis for 30 minutes. Enjoy hot or cold.
