INGREDIENTS:
For Fish curry
Fish Marinate:
Silver fish / velo - 100 to 150 gms
Salt to taste
For fish curry paste
Grated coconut - ½ coconut
Chopped onion - 1 medium size
Dry coriander seeds - 1 tsp
Tamarind - ½ tsp
Kashmiri chillies - 4
Dry Red chillies - 6 to 7
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Water as per requirement
For final fish curry
Oil - 2 tbsp
Finely chopped onion - 1 medium size
Ground coconut paste
Water as per requirement
Salt to taste
Green chilli - 1
Kokum - 2
Fresh chopped coriander leaves
Marinated fish
For Fish fry
Silver fish - 100 to 150 gms
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Tamarind pulp - 2 tsp
Oil for fry
For coating:
Rava / semolina - ½ cup
Rice flour - 2 tbsp
A pinch of salt
Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
Red chilli powder - ¼
METHOD/PREPARATION
Step 1:
Clean and wash fish thoroughly, add salt to taste, mix well and keep aside for marinating.
Meanwhile, let’s prepare for fish curry paste.
Step 2: for curry paste.
Grind all ingredients mentioned above to a fine paste. add water if required while grinding.
Step 3: for fish curry
In a kadai, add oil once the oil heats. add chopped onion and saute till translucent. add ground coconut paste and water to adjust the consistency of the fish curry. It’s neither too thick nor too thin and should be of medium consistency. mix well and cook for 10 to 15 minutes on medium flame. add green chilli and kokum. Keep stirring in between. Once curry starts boiling add marinated fish and cook for 5 minutes on low flame. don’t overcook fish. Add salt to taste and stir. Cook for some time. Switch off the gas and add finely chopped fresh coriander leaves.
For fish fry
Step 1:
Clean and wash thoroughly fish, add salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and tamarind pulp. Mix well and marinated for half an hour.
Step 2: for coating
Mix all ingredients in a plate mentioned above and keep aside.
Step 3: for fish fry
Heat tawa, and add oil 2 to 3 tbsp once the oil is heated. Coat semolina to marinated fish and put on the tawa, repeat the same process with all marinated fish. On low flame fry sliver fish to light golden in colour on both sides. Add oil if required while frying fish.
Serve with steamed rice, sliver fish curry, fish fry, salad and pickle. Enjoy Goan lunch thali.
